The next day Archer and Kiel finally start their work.
When they arrive at the cafe they change before settling down in their places. Kiara stood by Kiel to help him with the first customers and Oliver drove with Archer as he made his first deliveries. The door rings and a young man around 27 walked in.
“Hello, welcome to Blue Haven!” Kiel says warmly as the man walks to the counter.
“Hey,” The man say politely.
“I hope you are having a nice day and for notice I’m blind so I am sorry if it takes a bit.”
“Oh no not at all, take your time. I have a family member that is blind so I understand.”
“Oh thank you so much,” Kiel smiles while looking up. “Now, what are we wanting to order today and can I get a name.”
“Alex, spelled exactly how it sounds and can I just get a salted caramel cold brew?”
“Yep, sure thing,” Kiel says he places the order. “Your total is $4.93, will you be using cash or a card?” “Um… card,” The man hands Kiel his card.
“Alrighty,” He swipes the card before handing it back to the man. “Your order will be called out by your name and will be set over at that counter,” Kiel points and the man thanks him before walking over by the counter.
“Great job Kiel! Your first order is now officially done,” Kiara smiles.
“Yeah it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be,” Kiel replies and cocks his head when he hears the door ring.
“Hello, welcome to Blue Haven-,” Though he was cut off when Archer pipes up.
“Hey it’s just me.”
“Oh I didn’t realize, sorry,” Kiel chuckles softly.
“Oh no problem. Hows the first day going?”
“Good easier than I thought it was, how about you?”
“Good good, made my first delivery. Now I’m just picking up the next few.”
“Oh that’s good,” Kiel smiles. “Well, I’ll leave you too it. See you later.” “Yeah you too,” Archer says as he grabs an online order and leaves.
The day goes by fast as customers and deliveries go. The sun was setting and Archer had just finished his route and Kiel was shutting down the register. They met each in the locker room along with Kiara and Oliver.
“Hey guys, so what do you think of your first day,” Oliver says in a chill tone.
“Pretty good,”Archer replies.
“Really easy, I like it,” Kiel says.
“Well that’s good,” Oliver says.
Kiara buds her way into the three boys conversation. “Heeeey, watcha talking about?”
“Nothing, just about their first day, love,” Oliver says and both Archer and Kiel snap their heads to look at Oliver when he calls Kiara love.
“What-, Oliver you never told me you were dating Kiara,” Archer says surprised.
“We aren’t dating shes my fiance,” Oliver replies nonchalantly.
“Your fiance!”
“Yep, I Proposed when we opened this cafe.”
Kiel smiles and looks over in Kiara’s direction. “Oh good for you Kiara.”
“Thank you. I thought he was never going to propose,” She giggles.
They all chuckle and after a few more conversations the two pairs go their separate ways. Kiara and Oliver lock up and leave, and Archer and Kiel drive home. When Archer and Kiel walk into their house they collapse on the couch.
“What a long day,” Archer sighs and Kiel nods.
“I think we should order out. I don’t feel like cooking tonight,” He says.
“Agreed, Chinese sounds good,” Kiel replies.
“Alright,” Archer gets up and grabs his phone as he dials the Chinese place number.
He placed the order and within 15 minutes the food had arrived. The two of them sit at the dining table and eat from boxes of rice, orange chicken, and stir fry.
“How much do I owe for the meal?” Kiel says with a mouthful of rice. “I can do half.”
“None, don’t worry about it. It’s on me.”
“Are you sure?. You always cook and I feel bad for not paying, its the least I could do,” Kiel nags.
“No, you are not paying. I insist,” Archer chuckles but states firmly.
“No! I’m going to pay half,” Kiel say stubbornly.
Archer tunes him out and repeats, “you don’t need to pay” as Kiel continues to pout. Kiel groans and kicks Archer under the table.
“Why can’t I? You already helped me so much, what can I do to repay you?”
Archer sighs and looks up at Kiel. “Be happy, that’s all I want from you. I want you to live beyond sight and see without colors.”
“Oh,” Kiel looks down. “Okay,” He replies softly and perks up. “But you have to be there with me, okay?”“Alright,” Archer smiles and nudges Kiel’s leg.
They finish eating and join on the couch to watch a movie. The sun sets and Kiel fell asleep against Archer’s shoulder. Archer looks down and smiles before speaking softly.
“I will always be with you Kiel, even when you don’t need me,” He kisses him softly and carries Kiel to bed.
Archer undresses Kiel from his work clothes and puts a light blue and breathable set of pajamas on him. He lays him down on the bed and tucks him in before walking to the door.
“Good night Kiel, sweet dreams,” Archer says softly and turns the light off before closing the door.
On the other side of the door, Kiel lays in bed, eyes wide, and face flushes. Archer just kissed him and put him to bed. He rolls back in forth confused but is happy for some reason. Back outside of Kiel’s room, Archer slides down the door and sits with his back against it. He was blushing and whispered to himself.
“Oh god, I cant believe I did that.”
After a few seconds Archer gathers himself up and walks to his room. Without undressing or washing up he falls into bed.
The house is silent, not a single sound is heard except the beating of both boys hearts in their chests as they try to sleep.
