Chapter 4: Light and Darkness

Chapter 4: Light and Darkness

Feb 25, 2025

Lucifer groaned as he sat up. His body ached, his mind still foggy from whatever had just happened. The room was dimly lit, the walls made of reinforced metal, lined with monitors displaying complex data streams. The air smelled of old books and circuitry—a strange mix of ancient knowledge and modern technology. Across from him, a man leaned against a desk, arms crossed. He was tall, middle-aged, with sharp, calculating eyes and a streak of silver in his dark hair. His expression was unreadable, but there was an air of calm authority about him. "Good. You’re awake." Lucifer blinked, his mind still piecing together the events leading up to this moment. "Who… are you?" The man smirked. "Name’s Hiro Namikaze. I found you unconscious after your little outburst in the forest." Lucifer stiffened. The battle—Onyx, Kris, the water, the raw power he’d felt surging through his veins… It hadn’t been a dream. "Where’s Kris?" he asked quickly. "Relax. Your friend’s fine. He’s waiting outside." Hiro tilted his head, examining Lucifer like a puzzle he was trying to solve. "But the real question is… what the hell are you?" Lucifer hesitated. For so long, he’d believed he was just an ordinary teenager. But now, the visions, the unnatural power, Onyx calling him Lynx—it all pointed to something far bigger than he ever imagined. "I don’t know," he admitted.

Hiro chuckled. "Honest. I like that." The door slid open, and Kris rushed inside. "Lucifer!" Lucifer barely had time to react before Kris pulled him into a tight hug. "You scared the hell out of me, man!" Kris pulled back, looking him over. "Are you okay? You—" He hesitated.

Lucifer knew why. His eyes were still glowing blue. Hiro, noticing Kris’s concern, cleared his throat. "I think it’s time for some explanations."

Hiro took a seat at his desk, pulling up a holographic projection of a star map. Points of light and lines of ancient script flickered in the air between them. "I used to work for Onyx," Hiro began, his tone eerily calm. "Not by choice. He enslaved entire planets, including mine, forcing people like me to study and experiment on ancient elemental orbs —things like the Elementos." Lucifer felt a chill run down his spine. "And what exactly are the Elementos?" Hiro tapped a button, and the hologram shifted. Six orbs of elemental energy appeared, each radiating a different color—blue for water, red for fire, green for earth, white for air, yellow for lightning, and cyan for ice. "They’re the most powerful relics in the universe, created by an ancient god to keep balance," Hiro explained. "Each grants mastery over a fundamental force of nature. But the legend says that anyone who wields all six…" His expression darkened. "Becomes a god."

Lucifer clenched his fists. "That’s why Onyx wants them." Hiro nodded. "And you? You’ve already bonded with one." Lucifer’s breath hitched. "The Water Elemento…" Hiro smirked. "Smart kid." Kris, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke up. "Okay, but what does all this have to do with Lucifer? Why did Onyx call him Lynx?" Hiro’s gaze sharpened.

"Because Lynx isn’t just a name. It’s a soul." Lucifer’s heart pounded. "What are you saying?" Hiro leaned forward. "I’m saying you’re not just Lucifer. You’re Lynx. Or at least… part of you is." A heavy silence settled between them. Lucifer swallowed hard. "You’re saying my soul is… merged?" "Exactly." Hiro nodded. "Lynx's soul was trapped by Onyx when he died. But something prevented it. And it managed to escape.  I’m guessing it went and tried to find a new body. It must have fused it with yours for a reason" Lucifer ran a hand through his hair, overwhelmed. "That’s why I’ve been having those visions… why I keep seeing things that aren’t mine." "Memories," Hiro corrected. "You’re remembering who you were." Kris exhaled, shaking his head. "This is insane," Hiro smirked. "You have no idea." Kris then proceeds to ask Lucifer, “So Lucifer, What name do you prefer us to call you by? Lynx? Or Lucifer?” Lucifer starts to walk back and forth until he suddenly stops. He looks at both Hiro and Kris. He calmly says “Well since both are great names I can’t really decide, but if you still want to call me Lucifer that’s fine. But I think I’ll go with Lynx. I feel like that name connects to me a bit more…” Both Hiro and Kris nod and agree to call him Lynx.

A low rumble shook the ground beneath them. The lights flickered. The air grew tense, heavy. Then—a voice. Deep. Echoing. Filled with malice. "People of Exfodia…" Lucifer’s blood ran cold. The three of them rushed outside. Above them, a massive ship hovered in the sky. Its black, metallic surface pulsed with crimson light. A holographic projection of Onyx loomed over the city, his red eyes burning with twisted amusement. "I have an offer," Onyx continued. His voice boomed across the land, chilling to the bone. "Surrender Lucifer to me… or I will destroy this planet." Gasps and screams rose from the townspeople. Lynx’s hands trembled. Lynx’s eyes widen as he says out loud "Onyx... You didn't".

"Oh, and one more thing," Onyx added, smirking. "Lucifer, if you’re listening… I have your parents." Lynx’s heart stopped. The screen shifted—showing his mother and father, bound in chains. "You have two months to decide," Onyx said, his tone almost bored. "Surrender yourself, or watch them die." Then, the projection vanished. The ship remained overhead, a looming shadow of doom. Lynx’s blood boiled. "He took them…" His fists clenched, his blue aura sparking. "I’ll kill him." Kris grabbed his arm. "Lynx, wait! You can’t just charge in—" Before he could finish, the ship fired a scarlet beam toward the town square.

Hiro’s eyes widened. "EVERYONE, GET TO HIGH GROUND!" Lynx and Kris sprinted toward the rooftops. The beam struck. Dark vines of energy erupted from the impact site, twisting through the streets. People screamed as the vines latched onto them, draining their life force. Lynx watched in horror as one by one, they turned to stone. Onyx laughed from the ship. "Their fear… their pain… it’s delicious." His aura surged—his form changing as dark horns sprouted from his skull, his teeth sharpening into fangs. His transformation was complete.

"You have two months, brother. Try to stop me if you dare." The ship vanished into the clouds. Silence fell. Lucifer stood there, his hands shaking. His rage burned. Hiro placed a hand on his shoulder. "We’ll get them back." Lucifer exhaled, trying to steady himself. "No. I’ll get them back." He turned to Hiro and Kris. "And to do that… I need more power." Hiro grinned. "Then it’s time to find the rest of the Elementos." Lynx nodded. Kris then says "Lynx, I think there's a temple more deep in the forest… nearby where we found Onyx and his minion. Maybe there's information we can find more on the Elementos." Hiro then says "That's a good thing... We're gonna head there next thing in the morning so get ready..." Lynx relaxes, his energy disappears, and his eyes return to normal… Lynx looks back and looks at the sky, he says to himself. "Don't worry Mom and Dad... I'll go and save you"
