1st story of Fellen Tower (5)

1st story of Fellen Tower (5)

Feb 28, 2025

Instinct took over then—pure primal fear driving me to act without thought or reason. I lashed out with foot catching creature squarely beneath chin sending its head flying backwards into darkness beyond reach of light sources once more.

Silence fell heavy around us again; only my ragged breathing breaking stillness now as adrenaline coursed through veins setting every nerve ending alight.

But relief proved short-lived for soon enough whispers returned—louder this time—and with them came others...more creatures emerging from shadows to surround me on all sides once more.

"Leave!" shouted defiantly, voice echoing off walls around us. "I won't let you take control!"

They laughed then—a chorus of madness that grated against eardrums like nails dragged across slate.

"You cannot resist," one hissed close by left ear sending shivers down spine despite heat radiating from its body.

Another added mockingly, "'You are but a speck in cosmic ocean—an ant beneath our notice."

I gritted teeth determined not to give up without fight. "Then why bother with me?"

Silence fell once more before first creature spoke again: '"Because you have seen us...and now must join ranks of those who know."

Its voice dripped venomous intent; each word resonating deep within chest cavity where heart beat wildly against ribcage.

"No," whispered defiantly, shaking head slowly side to side despite knowing futility.

They laughed once more—harsh sound echoing around us like thunderclap—and then all hell broke loose as they descended upon me en masse...

Their touch felt cold yet burning hot simultaneously; fingers elongated into talons tearing through flesh leaving trails of fire in their wake. I screamed until lungs burned raw but still couldn't drown out sounds coming from own body—wet ripping noises accompanied by sickening crunching bones snapped like twigs underfoot.

Blood flowed freely now coating floor beneath us slippery red pool reflecting twisted forms moving above it.

I thrashed wildly trying to dislodge them yet each movement only seemed serve further their purpose; tendrils of darkness snaked out from within shadows themselves wrapping around limbs holding me fast while others wormed into mouth forcing screams silent.

And then came pain—blinding white hot agony that consumed every fiber being until nothing remained but pure unadulterated torment. They tore open chest cavity exposing heart still beating defiantly against ribcage; one reached inside grasping organ tightly within fist before squeezing hard enough to burst it like overripe fruit.

Darkness claimed me then—mercy finally granted after endless torture—but even unconsciousness offered no respite from horrors experienced here.

For when I woke again, found myself lying face down in muddy earth beneath cold gaze of moon overhead. Body ached allover; every movement sending jolts pain through limbs yet somehow managed sit up despite protests.

Looked around slowly taking stock surroundings—trees loomed tall above me their branches swaying gently back and forth casting eerie shadows across ground below.

And then I saw it: standing at edge clearing just beyond reach moonlight—a figure draped head-to-foot in tattered robes that seemed absorb light itself. It stood motionless save for occasional twitch of fabric hinted movement beneath.

I squinted trying make out features hidden deep within hood but could discern nothing—not even eyes reflected back starlight.

"Who are you?" called softly, voice barely above whisper yet still echoing loudly around us here amidst silence broken only by distant hoot owl somewhere nearby forest canopy overhead.

Years have passed since that fateful day when reality unraveled like threadbare fabric, revealing the cosmic horror that lurked just beyond our perception. I've tried to move on, to pick up the shattered remnants of my life and forge a new path forward, but the echoes of those dark events persist, lingering in every shadow, whispering through every rustling leaf.

I sit now in the quiet of my apartment, pen poised over blank paper as I struggle to capture the indescribable terror that still haunts me. The city outside my window pulses with life—a stark contrast to the desolate wasteland it once became—and yet, I can't shake the feeling that something is...off.

The phone rings, pulling me from my reverie. It's Maria. Her voice is tense, laced with an undercurrent of fear that mirrors my own.

"Elias," she says without preamble, "it's happening again."

My heart sinks like a stone in my chest as I listen to her describe the reports flooding into the precinct—strange occurrences, impossible phenomena plaguing the city once more. Shadows lengthening unnaturally, buildings warping under unseen forces, people...changing.

"I'm on my way," I tell her, already grabbing my coat and checking my service weapon. As if mere bullets could protect us from what's coming.

We meet at the scene—an alleyway behind a bustling diner, now eerily empty save for the grotesque sight before us. A man lies writhing on the ground, his body contorting in ways that defy biology. His eyes roll back in their sockets, revealing not whites but something slick and black like oil.

Maria turns to me, her face pale. "This...this isn't natural."

"No," I agree grimly, remembering all too well what happens when nature takes a backseat to cosmic forces. "It's just the beginning."

We spend hours canvassing the city, compiling reports of similar incidents. Each one more disturbing than the last—people mutating, architecture twisting into nightmarish forms, reality itself fracturing at the seams.

And then there are the whispers—the voices that only I seem to hear, carried on the wind like a dark symphony. They speak in tongues both ancient and alien, their words slithering through my mind like serpents, planting seeds of madness and dread.

As dawn breaks over the city, we find ourselves back at the precinct, surrounded by mountains of paperwork and an ever-growing sense of despair.

"When will it stop?" Maria asks quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "How much more can we take before...before something breaks?"

I look at her, seeing my own fears reflected in her eyes. But I cannot give voice to the truth—that this is only the start of something far worse; that the cosmic horror we awakened that day in the tower will not be satisfied until it has consumed us all.

Because if I do, then I'll have to admit that there's no hope left for any of us; that our world stands on the precipice of an abyss from which there can be no return. And so, I offer her instead a small, sad smile and a lie:

"We'll figure it out," I say, my voice steady despite the turmoil within me. "We always do."

But even as the words leave my lips, I know them for what they are—empty promises whispered into the void. For in the end, there is no fighting back against such overwhelming power; no defying fate when it comes cloaked in eldritch terror.

All we can do now is wait—for the darkness to claim us, or for some miracle to stay its hand. Either way, I fear that our world as we knew it is gone forever, swallowed whole by the insatiable hunger of the cosmos beyond.

And so, I sit here in my apartment once more, pen poised over paper, trying desperately to make sense of it all—to find meaning amidst the chaos and madness. But there are no answers here, only questions; no solace, only fear.

For we have awakened something ancient and terrible—a cosmic horror that will not be silenced, that will not be denied. And now, it calls our names on the wind, beckoning us ever deeper into its embrace...

And all I can do is listen—and wait—for the end to come.

An incident may be one thing, but the truth may take many forms. I would like to talk about the twists and turns that come when you delve into one incident.
