Chapter 13: Magic
Leticia stood in the field behind her house, enjoying the gentle breeze that blew through her long hair. Aya's voice echoed in her mind, filled with curiosity.
"So, you’re saying I have magic?" — Aya asked cautiously.
— Yes, — Leticia nodded. — But we don’t know what kind of magic you have access to.
Aya thought for a moment. For her, magic had always been something from anime and manga, a fantasy element, not reality.
"I mean, I’ve seen plenty of magic in anime and manga, but I never thought it could be real," — Aya admitted.
Leticia frowned.
— Anime? Manga? What’s that?
Aya hesitated for a moment.
How do you explain
this to someone who grew up in a medieval world of magic?
"They’re… stories drawn in my world. They have a lot of magic in them, but it’s different. It’s made up."
— So you’re saying there’s no magic in your world?
Aya imagined Leticia crossing her arms.
"No," — Aya said thoughtfully. — "Well... not in reality."
Leticia narrowed her eyes skeptically.
"Then how does your world even live without magic?"
Aya chuckled.
"We have science. And honestly, sometimes it does things that look even scarier than magic."
— Interesting... — Leticia muttered. — Well, it doesn’t matter. Let’s focus on magic now.
Leticia began explaining magic in her world, using complex terms and formulas. Aya tried to concentrate but soon realized she didn’t understand anything.
"Leticia..." — Aya sighed. — "Can you explain this in a simpler way? I didn’t understand a thing."
Leticia paused, analyzing her mistake, then nodded.
— Alright. As I said, magic is everywhere, even in the air. Over time, we developed magical nerves through which magic flows. Your nerves control this flow, and your body is the conductor.
"Oh! Now I finally get it!" — Aya exclaimed happily.
— Great. Now let’s try it in practice. I’ll give you control, and you’ll try to feel the flow in your nerves. Focus.
Aya took a deep breath as Leticia gave her control over the body. She tried to concentrate, but… nothing.
— Uh… I don’t feel anything, — Aya said.
"Did you expect to feel it right away? Try again. Just feel how your power flows through your body. Find its source."
Aya tried again. Another failure. Doubt crept into her mind.
— Maybe I don’t have magical nerves at all?
"Hmm… possibly. But I definitely felt something yesterday," — Leticia replied confidently. — "Try again, but don’t think about the result. One last time."
Aya closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Inside, there was nothing. Not a spark. Not a hint of power.
But suddenly… a faint tingling sensation appeared deep in her chest.
It felt like warmth spreading through her veins, like morning sunlight touching her skin.
Her eyelids fluttered.
She felt something alive, warm, and soft.
Energy.
It flowed through her arms, gliding to her fingertips, shimmering with a golden light.
— I... I feel something, — her voice trembled with excitement.
"Yes," — Leticia smiled. — "That’s magic. Now let’s see what kind of magic you have. Try to direct it to your hands."
Aya did as Leticia said.
A moment later, a
warm, golden light began to flow from her hands.
Aya stared in amazement at her hands, watching the light gently shimmer between her fingers.
— Leticia, I can control light?.. — Aya asked in astonishment.
But Leticia didn’t answer. Aya felt a wave of anxiety and fear—but these feelings weren’t her own.
"Yes. It’s light magic," — Leticia finally replied, her voice filled with worry. — "One of the forgotten and lost magics of our world."
Aya’s eyes widened.
— Wait, what? Why forgotten and lost?
Leticia frowned mentally.
"Because the last ones who possessed it lived more than a thousand years ago."
— A thousand years? — Aya almost closed her eyes from the shock but managed to pull herself together.
"Yes, and that worries me a lot," — Leticia said, and Aya could feel her unease. — "I hope everything will be fine."
Aya still couldn’t believe it, but deep inside,
a sense of awe began to grow.
She could truly use magic.
Magic that hadn’t existed in this world—until Aya appeared.
