"Good afternoon. I have a solution to all your problems, and it won't take long."
As you hear those words, your head turns toward the voice. It is the voice of a tall woman; she had long black hair and red glasses. Her attire didn't seem to fit the environment here in Consonance, or even Campanella's in general. "Who are you? Do you know us?"
A simple button-up shirt, a complementary bow tie, a nice black knee-length fabric skirt, and a tailored black jacket with red tones. A conveniently specific outfit, it definitely had to be some sort of uniform.
"My name is Fortunata. I am an old war leader. I don't know who you are, but I do know where your suit comes from. It's from Campanella's Academy, which there'd be no reason to wear if you aren't from there," Fortunata pointed at you; she recognized your attire immediately.
You audibly gasped, showing a sense of emotion for the first time in a while. "You're right, but I don't know how I got here; those two girls next to me don't even know what Campanella is."
Vitalia stared at Camilla while heavily confused. "Campanella? Oh, now there are two insane people we have to take care of. Damn."
"I arrived here after investigating an area of interest with my partner. We were tracking down an individual who we believe is of concern to you all; her name is Ravenna Melchior," Fortunata declared to the others.
Ravenna Melchior? After a quick glance at everyone, it was clear no one even recognized the name. For some reason, you felt slightly different from the rest after hearing the name, but you didn't bother going further into it.
"I overheard you all speak about Armonia. Ravenna Melchior is the overseer of that organization, and she happens to also be my target. She's also Campanella's Sovrana, in other words, the supreme leader of the land."
You were naturally confused; you hadn't been awake for several years prior, so your knowledge of Campanella is limited. "How come they don't know what Campanella is? I've tried asking them over and over if they even knew anything about it, but for some reason... they don't know. Also, where even is your partner now?"
Carlotta looked terrified. "Wha-What!? You mean... you're going to kill Armonia's leader!? Why? What?"
Vitalia walked toward Fortunata to the point where they had barely any space apart from each other; they were almost as tall as each other and were possibly as capable as each other in battle. "You don't know how much Armonia's done for us, so there better be a damn good reason for this."
Fortunata sat on the ground and started drawing something on the dirt using her finger. It seemed like a building with a musical note on it, specifically a half note. "I don't know the answer to those questions yet, Camilla. But I do know where we can start. Armonia's headquarters, while they may be infested by those corrupted shapeshifters, that is our only choice to make progress here."
Vitalia stared Fortunata down. "Why the hell should we trust what you say? Maybe you're trying to get us killed; you did say you were trying to hunt someone down."
"Tell us! Why! Why should we trust you?" Carlotta screamed in a way she hadn't before; it was definitely a reaction out of fear; she didn't really know what to think at this point.
Fortunata remained calm and collected the whole time. "Why don't we go to their headquarters and find out? It's three capable fighters against one; you will always have the upper hand, and not to mention this isn't my native land."
"Let's not forget Armonia left you two a while ago, without any explanation. Your friends, family members, and lovers are all now here, left suffering because of them leaving. I'm sure you've gone everywhere with no solutions. We have a capable team here; we can see what's really going on here."
☆
Fortunata convinced the three of you to follow her to the Armonia headquarters. I mean, what else was there to do? What was there to lose at this point? She was right in the end. Vitalia and Carlotta are very capable fighters; they've been defending Consonance from the shapeshifters for a while. Fortunata looked like one of those military officers you'd hear about, and you've got your own cool power as well, let's not forget about that.
The Armonia HQ was huge; it had huge walls made of concrete, a large window covered with wood planks across, and a flat roof covered with weirdly shaped ventilation panels. There was a massive gate right in front, keeping people away from it. To enter the headquarters, they had to first get rid of the shapeshifters crawling around the gate.
"Holy damn! There are so many of these bastards here," Vitalia smiled while she grabbed a lipstick she hid in a compartment in her dress.
Carlotta pressed her bunny-shaped hairpin, and a massive pastel pink hammer covered with hearts popped out of nowhere. "I am soooo ready!!!"
"I will be taking care of the ones in the back from on top of this hill. Vitalia and Carlotta will take care of the sides; Camilla will be in charge of the front wave. It looks like they're defending the gate from any intruders. We'll just show them who the real intruders are."
You were going to try and be useful for once, while you weren't too familiar with your power. For some reason, you felt extremely capable and confident regarding how to use it. No reason to question that fact, right?
On your way to the HQ, Fortunata had created an extensive plan on how to take down the shapeshifters that would be in your way. She seemed really capable of strategizing, really showing her ability to lead a squad.
Fortunata took out a small gun that quickly changed into a massive sniper. She had also prepared equipment that would protect her ears from any damage. "Everyone head to your designated spots and fight! I believe in everyone here."
The shapeshifters were made up of different objects that attempted to merge into each other, they stuck out like a sore thumb half the time. Carlotta swung her hammer across a wave of the shapeshifters; they got suddenly flung onto others, which made them explode.
Vitalia's lipstick turned into a sharp red blade; she kept running around in between the waves like a maniac. Each cut she made to them was enough to cause them to explode, which killed a bunch of other shapeshifters as a result.
Fortunata shot her heavy sniper from afar, which created an extremely loud sound of a bullet directly hitting a shapeshifter's core, which created a massive explosion in the back. Carlotta knocked the shapeshifter away in Vitalia's direction, where she kept slashing them away. It was as if they created a game for them to play with these corrupted creatures.
You simply stared as explosions killed multiple waves of them; you didn't really know how to help. But something within you felt different today; it was as if your body craved to destroy these evil things all at once.
Suddenly, you could hear a scream from a distance. Fortunata had dropped her weapon and was lying on the ground, wandering shapeshifters had come from out of nowhere; she was in danger, and the other two were already dealing with others.
What do you do now? Watch someone who was trying to help you, get murdered? Are you a coward? DO SOMETHING FOR ONCE! Stop watching on the sidelines. Stop letting people go. Stop being emotionless. Show the world who you truly want to be.
Clouds engulf the area as you grab your chest and look toward the sky. Your body starts hurting terribly, the pain makes you scream, and your eyes go blank. The sky suddenly turns dark, static forms in the air, and loud crackling sounds are heard across the place.
Immediately, a wave of lightning strikes hit every shapeshifter in the area, causing several explosions and sending them to their utter demise. The power of the amulet from within your chest was awoken; you felt an intense amount of energy coursing through your body at an extreme pace.
Everyone looked shocked as all the shapeshifters were turned into dust, there wasn't even something that resembled them anymore. Fortunata made a thumbs up gesture from above, she had a big smile on her face.
You didn't even realize what you did, you just felt it within you. It was as if the amulet was calling to you. Vitalia and Carlotta looked a little exhausted from having to deal with tons of shapeshifters at once.
"Nice, Camilla! I knew you had it in you! I-I"
Carlotta's words were cut short as a massive creature stepped on her body. A massive shapeshifter doubling the size of the headquarters stood in front of them as horror set in. For some reason, everything became silent. You could only see Vitalia's face change into a horror you've never seen before.
Her hammer landed next to you, one of the heart shapes was broken in half from the impact. It was the first time you experienced loss in your life, you didn't know how to deal with it. You only knew your heart felt weird, it was different. Unlike anything else you've seen before. You couldn't even move.
