Advanced Unit Thanatos

The Auction

The Auction

Mar 15, 2025

Wolf drifts through the metallic corridors of the space port. His face was pure green and he felt like he was going to vomit. He hopes there’s a bathroom somewhere to puke in.

Mr. Humphrey grabs him by the collar and drags him towards the crowds of people queuing up for entry to the event. There were alot of people with designer suits, dresses and accessories made out of genuine gems.

At the corner of his eye, Wolf could also see Galactic Independence soldiers patrolling the corridors and two were acting as bouncers within the queue, analyzing tickets and identification.

It did not take long for them to reach the top of the queue, where a soldier with a well toned body and a stiff face observed their features and Mr. Humphrey’s face. The guard then smiles cheerfully at Mr. Humphrey.

“Nice to see you again, Mr. Humphrey. Have a good time at the showcase!” he chuckles sweetly, allowing them to pass through.

The showcase room was massive, it was obvious this spaceport was used for entertainment purposes considering it almost looked like a theater. The stage was trimmed with traditional gold and royal red curtains. The seats themselves were cushioned red and were soft as feathers, they even had a belt to help restrain yourself to the chair so that anti-gravity up in space doesn’t affect you or the spaceport was under attack.

The gravity in here was heavier, letting Wolf able to walk somewhat normally but there was still a degree of anti-gravity making his steps light and clumsy.

Mr. Humphrey guides Wolf upstairs to a private box room within the theater. Inside the box were a set of leather recliner chairs and a simple circular table in-between. There was also a call button on the seats, which Wolf presumed would call food services and what not up to the box.

“Marcas, you’ll stay here and bid for that droid. I don’t believe I need to explain how you bid in an auction, so I’ll leave you be for now while I attend other matters.” Mr. Humphrey said in a strict tone. “Don’t try anything, boy! You know damn well where it gets you by now.”

Wolf nods in compliance as he takes a seat and awaits for the showcase to start. Maybe it was best for him to be stuck in this private box, lord knows that if he went downstairs to the main area, every socialite would be circling around him like vultures because of his monkey tail.

Wolf turns on the tablet device on the table and starts projecting the auction software, where he can input his bids and whatnot.

As the showcase starts, he hears soft steps approach behind him. He jerks his head around to see a tall man, he looked fairly young but his eyes and head were obscured by a silver helmet with pointed spikes and his uniform, it looked to be Galactic Independence Army but it was crimson red with a gold symbol on the chest, it sort of looks like a unicorn.

“Oh, you’re quite perceptive to hear me like that.” he chuckles, taking a seat beside Wolf.

“Uh sorry…” he apologizes.

Wolf watches a ruby droid be rolled onto the stage, the ruby coating was shining and almost blinding to look at.

“Now presenting the RX78-Pilot Droid! Starting price is 5,000,000 G-Credits!” the announcer yells.

Wolf inputs his bid, he only has a few minutes to outbid one another.

“Are you aware of the war right now?” the man asks him.

Wolf thinks of a response, he clearly has no opinion on the war due to Houston being a neutral air space. All he has is hatred towards the GIA.

“Well I guess so…”

“They say the Galactic Independence Army is preparing to plan an invasion on Brittania soon.” the man replied. “If I was you, I’d be getting out of this place.”

He would if he could. Problem is he has an owner’s chip implanted in his neck and if he did escape, there would be nowhere to go. He’s trapped in this place for the rest of his life.

Yet the G.I.A. attacking this planet? They wouldn’t do that… would they? Both the U.S.D.F. and G.I.A. went to great lengths to preserve peace on the planet by not bringing the war to here.

“Sorry, I don’t have the privilege of just leaving the country.”

“Ah yes, you would appear to be a slave to that pig of a man… Humphrey wasn’t it?” he asks him, holding his head with those white gloved hands.

How would he even know about that? Nobody knew he was a slave, everyone thought he was merely a ward he adopted from some poor foster home and lived a luxurious lifestyle.

“Excuse me sir, how would you know that? Humphrey doesn’t exactly let anyone know he buys kids off the street.” he asks.

The man chuckles, “Oh how rude of me, I started talking without introducing myself. I’m Lieutenant Commander Saturn of the G.I.A., me and that pig are business partners you could say.” patting Wolf’s head.

"Please don't touch me,"

So this man was G.I.A. Scum after all. Great, the last type of person he wanted to deal with. How long was left in this auction? Only 2 minutes and he was being outbidded!

Shit!

Wolf’s pores start seeping with stress as he clumsily presses all the buttons in a desperate attempt to outbid every bidder in the room. Talking to this asshole made him distracted.

Speaking of him, he was looking over his shoulder as he bid. “You’re awful at bidding.”

Yeah, he’s keenly aware of that Saturn or whoever the hell he is.

Thirty seconds left and he’s against the clock, some guy at computer No.87 was outbidding him.

Come on Wolf, just click faster. His fingers were tapping away like bullets at the screen as Saturn just overlooked his shoulder in some form of amusement.

Zero… he ran out of time.

“And the winner of RX-78 Pilot Droid is booth No. 87!” the Presenter announces, Wolf slamming his head into the panel in defeat.

Saturn smirks, “Unfortunate. If Humphrey wants to win a droid he should do it himself.” He then looks at his own panel in glee. Wolf looks over and sees that he’s won the droid.

To any goddess, please let him punch this Ltn. Commander in the face.

“I’m not interested in the droid though,” he looks at Wolf and his tail with a sort of sinister look. “I’m more interested in you!”

What?

Why does he want him? To make him some soldier in war or just another prize for him to gawk at cus’ of his tail.

“Join me, I can get you out of this hell hole… I could use someone like yourself within my ranks.” he offers his hand to Wolf.

Join him? Join the G.I.A.? Over his dead body, he wanted escape but he didn’t want to sell his soul to a bunch of filth either. These people are nothing but scum, killing innocents and thinking the universe is theirs to conquer. What a joke!

Wolf slaps his hand, “I’m not joining scum like you!” he yells.

Saturn scoffs at him, “Very well then, you can die in submission as a slave.” before turning around with a wave of his cape and leaving the box.

Wolf sticks out his tongue at him before leaving himself.

“If you decide to change your mind within the week, I’ll be in this spaceport, just call for Lieutenant Commander Saturn and I’ll be there.” he said before turning the other way.

Lt. Commander Saturn, Wolf had a feeling this won’t be his last encounter with him. However, he has a more pressing matter on confronting Mr. Humphrey about losing the auction.

He was definitely getting put into isolation for this.

SLAP!

Mr. Humphrey’s callous hands slap Wolf across his face, leaving Wolf with a bright red mark on his cheek. It stings, it stings a lot… even touching the cheek makes him wince in pain and he is desperately trying to hold back his tears. He couldn’t show himself doing that, it makes things worse.

“You’re bloody useless you know that!” he berates him, his voice ringing through the metal halls. “Can’t even win an auction, such a simple thing to do!” he grips the ball of the cane, his knuckles turning whiter than his own skin. Mr. Humphrey takes a deep breath. “It’s fine, it’s all fine… I got what I came for anyway.”

“What would that be?” Wolf asks him, his voice barely above a whisper.

Mr. Humphrey snickers as Wolf could see two men, who were neither a part of the G.I.A. or U.S.D.F. come down the hallway, dragging a young girl who was kicking and screaming. The girl could’ve been no older than he was, her hair was like chocolate as his was and she was wearing a school uniform that saw better days, however, her most interesting feature was the monkey tail she had… she was like Wolf.

The two men stand in front of them, as the girl looks up in disdain.

“Wolf, say hello to our new resident. Caoimhe but that’s a bit difficult to pronounce, so I’d say we’ll call her Cammy.” he says, holding Caoimhe’s chin, looking into her eyes before she spits into his face. Humphrey slaps her. “Insolent brat, you’ll learn soon enough… just load her into my limo.”

Wolf just sits there in realization of what just happened. Humphrey just bought another child to be a slave, a girl this time. Usually he goes for boys but why a girl this time. Vile thoughts start to form in his head on what he was planning to do with Caoimhe and there was only one thing he must do now.

He has to escape!

Bright lights were seen flashing and circling around outside the slave quarters, as shouts and barks could be heard from inside. It’s obvious that Caoimhe is trying to escape the estate.

The other slaves were stirring awake from all the commotion, all moaning and groaning from being awake at 2AM in the morning. It’s going to be hard to fall asleep again considering the stone hard mattresses they were given and the thin cotton blankets they had to keep them warm.

Wolf approaches Thomas, one of the younger slaves on the estate, taps him on the shoulder and the blonde boy jerks his head back to see Wolf with a slight squeak.

“Don’t scare me like that Wolf,” he whispers.

“I need you to cover me for a second, if someone asks where I am, tell them I’m at the toilet.”

Thomas nods.

Wolf creeps across the floor, making sure his feet don’t even make a creak as he leaves through the door. Softly running downstairs and swiftly swinging himself around the banister towards the backdoor.

Within his hands was a glass bottle with a note inside, sealed with a cork that one would usually find on a wine bottle. It may be unlikely to work but he needs to desperately try and call out for help to someone who may find this bottle.

Opening the backdoor, he feels a blast of the cool autumn night within his body. Wolf makes his way through the back of the estate and climbs over the wall and jumps down to the gritty gravel pavement below him.

A bright light can be seen heading towards his way, “I’ll go check for the brat here, you check the other side!” he could hear Miss Wagfingers yell.

Without thinking, Wolf leaps into the bush and trees to hide himself from their sights.

Miss Wagfingers surveys the area, looking high and low for anybody, specifically Caoimhe. It seems they weren’t aware that Wolf isn’t in the slave quarters.

Wolf’s heart races, sweat trickling down his face as he sits in silence as Miss Wagfingers’ continues her investigation of the area. His heart racing, he could feel it leap into his throat like it was choking him.

“Nothing here it seems, not even a footprint.” Miss Wagingers said, turning around and heading out the other way.

Wolf finally breathes, his breathing unstable as he bites his pinky in an attempt to calm himself down. He has to keep on going though! Wolf quickly picks himself off the ground and carefully treads through the foliage, heading towards the river below them.

The river was calm and peaceful tonight but it had a steady stream flowing through it, which was enough for Wolf. Wolf carefully places the bottle in the stream, it quickly starts drifting far away and soon Wolf couldn’t even see it.

“If someone is out there, please come rescue me!”
