A Gun, A Poem, and a Promise

Where the Moon Watches Us

Where the Moon Watches Us

Mar 08, 2025

Scene 1: A Silent Goodbye

The door clicked shut.

Seo-Jun stood there, staring at it for too long, fingers twitching at his sides.

It was supposed to feel… what? Like relief? Like peace?

Instead, the apartment felt too empty, too silent.

He swallowed, shifting on his feet.

“I hope you’ll be okay.”

The words barely left his lips.

Then, softer— a whisper that no one could hear.

“Please don’t die, okay?”

Seo-Jun exhaled sharply and turned away, forcing himself to move.

Scene 2: Back to Work – A Normal Day That Feels Different

The next morning, Seo-Jun slipped back into his routine.

His students greeted him, voices overlapping.

“Teach! How's everything?”
“I didn't do the homework, my cat ate the page?”
“Teach, my tummy hurts, can I go to the nurse really quick?”

Seo-Jun smiled, nodded, listened. It felt normal.

But somewhere in the back of his mind, something felt missing.

Scene 3: Spacing Out in Class – A Moment of Realization

Midway through class, as students worked on an assignment, Seo-Jun found himself staring at nothing.

His mind wandered.
Did Nikolai find somewhere safe? Is he still in the city? Or did he leave completely? Would he even reach out?

“Teach?”

Seo-Jun blinked.

A student stood beside his desk, frowning.

“Are you okay? Are we being too loud?”

He sat up straighter, clearing his throat.

“No, I’m fine. Just didn’t sleep well.”

The student hesitated, then grinned awkwardly.

“Okay, Teach. We’ll try to be quiet. But please don’t get mad at us if we forget.”

Seo-Jun exhaled a quiet laugh.

“Noted.”

Scene 4: The Park – Writing the Words He Can’t Say

After work, Seo-Jun didn’t go straight home.

Instead, he found himself walking to the park.

The same park where he sat the first night Nikolai had been in his apartment.

The bench was still there. The sky was the same endless stretch of black and silver.

The moon hung in the sky, full and bright.

Seo-Jun leaned back, staring up.

“Are you looking at the same moon right now?”

The thought unsettled him. He looked away, pulled out his notebook, and began to write.

“The moon watches us both, but you are nowhere in sight.
Did you make it? Did you leave the city?
Or does the wind whisper your name back to me,
telling me you are closer than I think?”

Seo-Jun’s pen hovered over the page. His chest felt tight.

“What am I doing?”

He shut the notebook.

Got up. Left.

Scene 5: The Black Car Returns (Danger Never Left)

Another workday. Another attempt at normalcy.

But even as Seo-Jun forced himself to focus, his thoughts drifted.

Then—on his way home—he saw it.

A black car. Parked nearby.

Seo-Jun’s steps slowed. His stomach twisted.

“Is it the same one from before?”

The windows were tinted. The men inside weren’t moving—but they were watching.

Seo-Jun inhaled sharply and walked faster.

Scene 6: The Return – A Warning Too Late

Seo-Jun unlocked his apartment door and stepped inside.

Then—he froze.

A figure sat in his chair.

The air felt thick, tense.

Then, a familiar voice—smooth, laced with amusement.

“It’s me, Teach. Did you miss me?”

Seo-Jun’s breath caught.

“Nikolai?”

The man in the chair smirked.

He looked the same—but his eyes were darker, more serious.

Seo-Jun’s heart raced. He hadn’t realized how much he expected never to see him again.

“Why… why are you back? I thought you were gone.”

Nikolai leaned forward, arms resting on his knees.

“Teach, I told you I owe you one, right?”

Seo-Jun frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Nikolai exhaled. For once, his teasing expression faded.

“I came here to pick you up.”

Seo-Jun blinked.

“Pick me up? For what?”

Nikolai tilted his head slightly.

 “Because we need to go.”

Seo-Jun stepped back, his pulse hammering in his ears.

“Go where? What are you talking about?”

Nikolai stood up. The movement was slow, deliberate.

His ocean-blue gaze locked onto Seo-Jun’s.

“Teach, you saved my life. And I don’t want you to die because of it.”

A cold chill ran down Seo-Jun’s spine.

“What… what are you saying?”

Nikolai glanced toward the window. The black car was still there. Waiting. Watching.

Then—he turned back to Seo-Jun, voice calm but firm.

 “Pack your things. Now.”

Seo-Jun’s stomach dropped.

“You’re serious.”

Nikolai gave a single nod.

“The people watching you? They’re not gonna leave you alone. I can’t let you stay here.”

Seo-Jun looked at the door. At Nikolai. At the window.

He didn’t know what to say.

He came to me at the river’s edge, drenched in blood and silence.
“Kill me,” he whispered.
Instead, I saved him.

He was the heir to a world I had no place in—
a world of violence, power, and ghosts that refused to let him go.
But between his scars and my words,
a man with nothing left to lose
found a reason to stay.

He was never meant to stay.
I was never meant to care.

But some stories are written in ink and blood,
some mistakes feel like fate,
and some promises… were never meant to be kept.
