He should not believe Gabe. He does not believe him.
Everything Gabe said is nonsense.
He has not told anyone about what happened. Not his best friend, and more importantly—not his sweetheart, Kelly.
Adam chuckles and says, "Still paranoid, I see."
Alex lifts his head and frowns. "I’m not paranoid," he replies through clenched teeth.
He stares at Adam, who as usual plays with the keychain in his hand.
Adam always calls it his lucky charm. He has had it for years—ever since he found it and claimed that good things started happening. Twelve years later, he still carries it everywhere.
Alex takes a deep breath and decides to tell Adam everything.
Adam listens, half amused, until Alex finishes his story.
When Alex falls silent, Adam tries not to smile. He knows Alex is serious and does not want to offend him.
"So, let me get this straight," Adam says. "The guy broke into your car, told you the two of you are fated mates, and then asked to buy your sperm?"
At that, Adam can no longer hold back his laughter.
"Do not laugh! I already have a mate!"
Adam pinches the bridge of his nose, trying to stifle his amusement.
Alex gives him a desperate look.
Adam straightens up in his chair. "As crazy as that story sounds, I know you. You would not let something like that get under your skin… unless something about it felt real. So what is going on?"
Their eyes meet. After a moment, Alex looks away and slams his head against the desk, letting out a muffled groan.
Adam gets up, walks around the desk, and places a comforting hand on Alex’s back. "There, there."
Alex lifts his head and gives him a look that screams, Seriously? You just said that? Now?
"Hey, do not give me that look," Adam says. "We need to find a solution to your problem."
He begins to gently massage Alex’s shoulders.
"I do not have a problem," Alex mutters.
"Yes, you do. And I know you. You will not sleep properly until you figure this out. If what Gabe told you is still haunting your thoughts, it means your gut is telling you something. So what is it saying?"
Alex answers in a quiet, desperate voice, "I do not know."
He should ignore everything Gabe said. After all, he was a stranger. A stranger who broke into his moving car.
But in the back of his mind, that tiny seed of doubt has taken root.
And it is driving him mad.
With a sigh, he lets his head fall back to the desk.
"Let me help you," Adam said gently.
Alex sighed. "No one has found anything. Not in the car, not about the guy."
Adam smirked. "You forget who you are talking to?" he said with a hint of pride.
"I know a few people who could break into a car without leaving a single trace. Why not let me reach out and see what I can find?"
Alex lifted his head and gave Adam a skeptical look.
"I do know people who can do that... not personally, but I know how to find them. It will take time, but I can look into whoever broke into your car. And now that our deal officially fell through, I can focus all my energy on tracking down this Gabe guy. I need you to write down everything you remember. What he said, what he looked like... every detail."
Alex pulled a pen and paper from his drawer and began writing down everything he remembered.
Adam leaned over his shoulder.
"Kind eyes? Willing to pay any price for the goods?" he read aloud with a smirk.
"Are you serious right now?"
"Hey!" Alex snapped, his cheeks turning red. "He did not say much—I am just writing what I remember from what he showed me on his phone."
He crossed out kind eyes and replaced it with green eyes.
