Chapter 20 - Beyond the Dungeon
The weight of the Forsaken's Remnant still lingered in Sehan's grip as he stepped out of the hidden dungeon. The cold night air of Valtaros greeted him, sharp and crisp, a stark contrast to the oppressive darkness of the underground battlefield.
He scanned his surroundings. The ruined city stretched in every direction, its crumbling structures casting long, eerie shadows beneath the moonlight. In the distance, he could see the faint glow of the campfire where his temporary group had set up shelter.
Sehan exhaled. He had been gone longer than expected.
As he moved toward the camp, his mind raced. The Forsaken's Remnant wasn't just another loot drop. It pulsed with an unsettling energy, whispering to him in a language he didn't quite understand yet. There was power here—something deeper than what the system described.
And he wasn’t about to ignore it.
By the time he reached the camp, the others were on high alert. Nia was the first to react, her bow half-drawn before recognizing him.
"You were gone too long," she muttered, lowering her weapon.
Sehan shrugged. "Got sidetracked."
"Sidetracked?" Giran crossed his arms, frustration evident. "You disappeared without a word, and we're barely holding it together out here."
The others—tired, wary, but alive—watched him closely. They had survived, but not without losses. One of the original survivors was missing.
Sehan’s gaze swept over them. He could see it clearly. Fear. Doubt. A growing realization that God’s Game wasn’t something they could just figure out as they went.
He spoke after a pause. "We move at first light. The city isn’t safe."
No one argued.
As the fire crackled between them, Sehan examined the Forsaken’s Remnant once more. He had a feeling this was only the beginning.
And whatever was hidden in Valtaros… it was waiting for him to find it.
