Undyne looked weird, man. She was around Papyrus and Toriel’s height,  but she ran at us faster than some CARS. Apparently she would have arrived sooner, but Waterfall was enough of a maze to slow her down. She was wearing classic knight armor, and from the looks of things, was a fish lady. “NYAGH! Hey, Papyrus!” she shouted, “I got your call! Where’s the freak thats been killing monsters?” she turned and looked at me and my friends like we spat in her face. “Humans… I should have known…” she summoned a magic spear into her hand before Papyrus THANKFULLY kept her from killing us. 

“WAIT UNDYNE!” he said, “THESE HUMANS ARE NICE! THEY WERE THE ONES TO WARN ME OF THE KILLINGS IN THE FIRST PLACE!” Toriel created some magic fire and stepped in front of us before speaking.

“Sorry, but we are on a very strict schedule. We must evacuate everyone to safety immediately.” Undyne eyed Toriel up and down. 

“Who the hell are you? And why are you protecting them? Their HUMANS! They are the only thing in the way of our freedom!” 

Not wanting to be shish kebab-ed by a fish lady, Izzy stepped up. “Well, that won’t help you if you’re all dead. Jake here has killed it 3 times! Cut clean in half, but it just keeps coming back to life!” 

“SO?!” Undyne laughed, “I’LL KILL THEM HOWEVER MANY TIMES I HAVE TO! MONSTER KIND WILL BE FREE!” 

“SHUT UP! EVERYONE SHUT THE HELL UP!” I said, screaming. Everyone complied, “thank you. Now, i suggest that we handle the immortal genocider first. If we succeed, i should be able to break the barrier without killing anyone. And if we fail, that thing will be stuck down here. Alright?” 

After introductions, and learning that Toriel was actually the former queen, i soul tapped Undyne, she told the local guards to evacuate the town to some place called “New Home”, and we went to The Ruins to fight the genocider. The walk there was… something. Undyne kept trying to get Papyrus to listen to her and let her kill us, while Toriel kept making puns with Sans, and apparently Papyrus hates that. We also got to hear their various opinions on the monarchy. Papyrus likes him, but he did call him a “big fluffy pushover”, which Toriel seemed to agree with. Undyne respects the hell out of him but apparently also had to agree with that statement. Good to see the ruler of the nation is supposedly someone who seems like they would be Santa Claus, who apparently he does dress up as on christmas… okay then. I also apparently learned the reason behind their anti-human policy ISN’T just because we trapped them underground. Apparently Toriel and the king, Asgore, had a child named Asriel. Apparently one day in the ruins they found a human kid named Chara that the royal family proceeded to adopt. One day Chara died of a disease, and Asriel absorbed their soul and went to the surface to bury them amongst the flowers of their village. The humans attacked him, and killed him. Upon finding out, Asgore, in a fit of rage, declared war upon humanity, and that any human who fell into the underground would die. Toriel ran to The Ruins, hoping to protect the humans who fell down. I know it sounds overly convoluted, because it is. I just didn’t notice because my brain was freaking out over what I saw in The Ruins and I decided to process it all later. Anyways, we wound up at the entrance, Papyrus dispelled the bones and out stepped the brat. Papyrus summoned a bone and held it like a staff, Undyne summoned a magic spear, Toriel readied some fire, and we readied our soul weapons, me with my pencil, Izzy with her guitar, Bryson with his gauntlets, and Justin with his revolver, but as the fight started, i noticed something. Their soul, it was weird but it looked like it was moving around erratically, like a puppet. Then, i decided to ask the question that was itching at the back of my throat for hours now. “What are you?” the others looked at me like i just asked the dumbest question ever. “I can tell you aren’t human. Your soul moves weirdly. You don’t speak. You just seem like a puppet. So tell me… does that puppet have a name, whoever you are?” then, in a strained, and… honestly pathetic voice, the child speaks. 

“Frisk…” they said with barely any conviction or emotion. But this gave me something. 

“And may i ask who YOU are? I’m not talking to Frisk by the way.” i said, looking straight at them. The kid grinned. 

“You can call me… Player. A general term, name for me, and the name of my kind all in one.” they said with an almost jovial tone. “Any other questions~?” their voice was coated in venom. 

“Yeah, just one… why? Why do any of this?” i ask, confused. “I assume, based off your name that you view this world as a game. So why try for the worst ending?” 

They start to laugh. “BECAUSE! I WANT TO SEE ALL THIS WORLD HAS TO OFFER! I’VE SEEN THE GOOD ENDING, I’VE SEEN THE BAD ENDING, I’VE SEEN THE NEUTRAL ENDING! Honestly, now, i just want a challenge." They speak with a sadistic tone. 

“Well then, i hope we don’t disappoint.” i select the fight option and attack, sending waves of energy at them, Bryson starts swinging his fists at them, Izzy and Justin open fire, Toriel, Undyne, and Papyrus all start throwing magic at them. We manage to kill them a couple times, but they’re starting to read our moves. I gotta think of something fast.

“You guys are starting to bore me~” they take a swing at Papyrus, but I block it with my pencil. The monsters looked at me weirdly. Apparently nobody has ever thought to parry or dodge before, which is kinda stupid honestly. Then I had a thought. we don’t stand a chance. This kid can fight forever, and we’ll run out of tricks and improv combos eventually. I had to think… that's when I remembered. This is all entertainment for them. They were more interested in a challenge than anything else. So… if I could offer a better challenge… a grin was spread across my face. I had the perfect idea. 

“Player…” everyone, even Player turned to me. “I have a proposal. You give us, say… 3 weeks to prepare. And when that time is up, we’ll fight you. One last time. Deal?” 

Player looked at me confused. “And why would I agree to that? I could easily kill you here and now.” 

“Simple,” I replied, smiling. “You want a challenge! Entertainment! And I'm willing to bet you want it more than you want to kill me right here. So, do we have a deal?” the player grinned. 

“Very well then. I expect a good show.” they held up a hand, and disappeared. Everyone looked at each other. 

“Kid…” said Undyne, her breath shaky. With how long the fight was, it made sense. “Did you just make a deal with that brat to buy us more time?” I was about to confirm that when Sans suddenly appeared behind me. 

“not bad kid.” he said, “you managed to buy us 21 days before they come back. not to mention, you saved my little bro.” Also yes, apparently Sans is older than Papyrus despite being the size of frisk. “so… what now?” 

I was… worried, honestly. I only had a few weeks to teach the Royal Guard how to block, dodge, and parry, three high-schoolers how to fight and use magic, convince the people to let us help, stop the whole war thing, and find a way to break the barrier. “Okay… idea, we try and convince whoever’s in charge here to help us out. After that, we gotta teach Undyne and Papyrus here to block and parry, as well as teach my friends to fight. Sound good, everyone?” Everyone agreed pretty unanimously, so we started walking straight for the capital, evacuating everyone we could along the way. Though, through Waterfall it was nice to hear Izzy singing with a monster named Shyren. They were pretty cool honestly. And Bryson had a flexing contest with this buff seahorse named Aron or something? I don’t know, monster anatomy is weird. Especially since Aron flexed so hard he took flight. Physics and logic just don’t matter to monsters by the looks of things. We met the guy who apparently trained Undyne, who was an ancient turtle named Gerson. Seriously apparently he was alive during the war. He actually seemed pretty cool though. When Justin told him why we came down here he explained almost nobody knew what happened. Though supposedly there were some monsters in this place called the Wild East that knew about him. We recently added talking with some monsters from there to our current to-do list. Anyways, we pretty quickly went to Hotland, (seriously that is the name, don’t ask why they’re so lazy with naming things.) and met the royal scientist, Alphy’s, (a yellow, socially awkward lizard lady who i am ninety percent sure has a crush on Undyne,) and the Undergrounds number one celebrity, Mettaton, (a human killing robot made by Alphy’s. We only kept him from trying to kill us thanks to Undyne suplexing Mettaton the moment he tried to challenge us.) but after that, we made it up to the capital, and the king, Asgore. We saw him watering flowers in his throne room. Honestly, he didn’t seem like the kind of guy to start a war. Toriel looked at him like he was scum. He turned around when he finished watering the flowers.
