The Final Chorus: Our Reality Shattered

The Final Chorus: Our Reality Shattered

Mar 18, 2025

A decade ago, the nation of Niwa, a secluded land far away from civilization, declared war on Campanella for stealing relics passed down by divinities. While there was little proof Campanella stole them, there was an assault on Green Campanella, which started the now infamous Old War.

"Niwa's assault on Green Campanella won't be forgiven. Their assumptions that we'd steal precious resources are grand, and acting on them without clear evidence is a sure way to start a war," a woman declared.

This was no ordinary woman, nor was she speaking to herself. This was Green Campanella's commander; she was a fierce woman ready to end any dispute using any kind of force at her disposal. "Fortunata, your ability to strategize and conduct squads has been extraordinary. You will be in charge of the first offensive squad deterring Niwa's frontlines."

Fortunata's assignment as leader was surprising even to her. "Understood, commander. Dispatch expected within a day."

When forces decided to survey Green Campanella's damage, they concluded the entire city to be unlivable due to an unknown poison contaminating the air. A majority of the citizens and rulers at the time had been immediately killed.

Campanella's military bases operated mostly underground, which resulted in no losses on that end. "One. Two. Three," Fortunata quietly spoke as she readied her sniper shot with one eye open.

Niwa's formation was weak; they also lacked weaponry that Campanella excelled at. Fortunata's sniper rifle had explosive rounds, which further destroyed any chance at Niwa's lineups to succeed.

Not so long after, Niwa didn't want to risk continuing the conflict into something bigger, so they called the war off. Despite Campanella's losses, they had also decided on peace. Niwa still claimed the relic wasn't found.

Due to Green Campanella's complete destruction, the military took control of Campanella's governmental structure. Entrusting the title of 'Sovrana' to Ravenna Melchior, the commander that led Campanella to succeed against Niwa's military.

"Ravenna Melchior. Do you have the stolen relic?" Fortunata questioned.

Melchior laughed as she walked out of the office they were in. "It's up to you to find out."

After finding a book logging children's ages, dates, and reasons. You realized you were alone in the dark correction room. You decided to slowly walk through the only door ahead to try and find the others.

I woke up.

My eyes flickered.

I was in a dainty pink room; it definitely belonged to a young girl. It was a little disorganized, toys were thrown about, teacups were lying on the floor, and a few massive plushies covered the floor.

I looked around the room; there was a mirror, but it didn't have any reflection. When I looked at what would be paintings around the room, they had nothing but frames. When I tried to hold my hands, they just phased through each other.

"Camilla."

Someone called out to me. I didn't know who I really was or what I was doing in this room once again. I looked through the window, and there was nothing but an empty white void stretching across. Was I lost? That's the question I asked before, but now that I have the chance. I really want to figure this place out.

There used to be a puzzle here. But for some reason, the puzzle wasn't here anymore. I had to place three plushies inside a crate, specifically a heart, a cube, and an arrow in that order. At the time, it didn't really do anything.

Do I just wait for the rain again? I don't know. I guess I'll just wait around until she opens the door once again. The young girl with purple hair, purple accessories, and a beautiful purple dress.

Why am I here?

"I woke up."

"My eyes flickered."

"It happened again."

As you wake up, you immediately stand up and realize where you are. The gray garden was surrounded with dying flowers, the gray skies blended with its surroundings, and the crumbles of gray buildings covered the vast gray land.

"This is where I met Liora originally. Every time I remember her, I feel a weird sensation around my heart."

You weren't able to recall Liora's secret path to leave, but you decided to walk on ahead anyway. The more you looked around, the more you realized how grim everything looked. "What really happened here? And what's really going on with me?"

"I understand the idea of missing Liora, but for some reason, I just can't put it together in my heart. It's like something is supposed to hurt, but nothing does. Am I a shell for the real Camilla? I don't understand."

"Now. I'm here left alone, barred from knowing anything about this world and myself. It's supposed to feel different, but I feel empty. They abandoned me, Liora abandoned me, and even my real self abandoned me."

You decided to go around the buildings instead of leaving. "What's the point of this story? If I'm just an empty shell written around someone else's journey. Camilla? Is that even my actual name? You don't even recognize me anymore."

"I'm tired of everything. I don't even know what the purpose of all this was; I just followed a woman ahead, went to her home, and became attached to her. And she disappeared. Aren't characters like me just meant to die right away? A taste of violence for the audience, a throwaway character with a meaningless future."

You decide to lie down next to trash and abandoned buildings. You decided to give up on a journey that wasn't for you to begin with. Maybe a strong male protagonist with amazing powers was destined for what was ahead instead. You didn't really care who replaced you at this point.

As you start to fall back asleep, someone kicks your body from the side with a lot of force, making you roll away. "Ah! What the?"

You recognize the old war uniform, but this wasn't the old war veteran you knew. This one was blonde and was pretty short, but she did hit hard. "Stupid idiot. What are you doing lying down here? Did Fortunata not…? Ugh, get up, or I'll force you back up."

"Who are you? Why'd you kick me? What?" You were shocked by what she did to you, but you were more curious about her identity.

The woman started walking ahead. "Come on, loser. We can't be lying around in this rubble. My name is Vincenza. I'm here to pick your useless self up."

"Why are you like that?" you question her mannerisms while trying to get yourself back together.

Vincenza's anger was wildly visible. "I can't bear to look at people beating themselves up over nothing. It's so idiotic."

"I'm so useless! Look at me! There's no point in me being here! In the real world, no one will come to your rescue, because in the end it's up to you to decide to continue your journey. That's what I learned in the military."

"This place we're at is Green Campanella. It was renamed after an attack from Niwa, a secluded nation far from here, destroyed it and its population. I was in the dumb war that took place; there was a lot of back and forth, all for nothing. All Niwa did was kill people and destroy buildings; all we did was kill people and destroy buildings."

"Why did I sign myself up for the military? I had nothing going on in my life, I felt like you; I was some useless, stupid shell doing nothing in a world of nothingness. But that's where we were both wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong."

"In this world of mystery and troubles, you and only you decide where to go. Instead of thinking about all that, why not find some joy in your life? Set goals for what you want to do, and you'll feel more like you're part of something in a world entirely run by you."

Your head remained looking toward the floor as you both walked. "Why are you telling me all this?"

"Because your friends and, most importantly, your mother care about you. And she wouldn't want you giving up in the middle of this washed-out cemetery."

Your eyes quickly dart toward Vincenza. "My? Mother?"

"Camilla! Camilla! You were gone for a while! Hello!" Carlotta ran toward you and hugged you as she yelled out your name.

Fortunata and Vitalia smiled as they waited just outside a tall building. They were happy to see you once again, even if it hadn't been long. For the first time in your life, you felt immense joy in your heart and in your mind. Your eyes started to slightly tear up; you never felt this reassured of what you wanted to do.

"Hey everyone. I know we've known each other for a bit. But I am Camilla; I want to find my memories again, and I want to know who I really am. I want to find my parents. I want to meet them again and tell them how I feel."

"I am Fortunata. My mission has been to prove that Ravenna Melchior is a pathological manipulator and the reason the old war started."

Vincenza looked toward you and also smiled. "I am Vincenza. You idiots already knew that. I am here to help Fortunata take justice for Ravenna Melchior's deeds."

"The hell? Well. MY name is Vitalia. I, well. I want to keep Carlotta safe. I mean, I want us both to be safe, I want Consonance to be safe again for us to live peacefully in. I want to know why Ravenna Melchior left us."

Carlotta laughed. "I! I'm Carlotta! I will fight with all of you because you're all my friends."

Everyone looked really happy, even though the end was still far away. They were certain and confident of the future, the future that once was, and the future that they could all shape together.
