Jain stormed back to his seat after finishing his conversation with Wonwoo, his jaw tight with irritation. The moment he sat down, his friends pounced on him with questions.
"Who was that guy? Why'd you pull him away like that?" one of them asked, raising an eyebrow.
Jain scoffed and crossed his arms. "Just ignore him. He's some annoying bastard," he muttered, glaring at the table.
One of his female friends leaned in, lowering her voice. "You know... there are some weird rumors going around about you and him."
Jain's eyes narrowed. "What kind of rumors?"
She hesitated before answering, "Someone from our class said that you confessed to wonwoo."
At that, Jain stiffened. Disgust flickered across his face as he quickly defended himself. "Tch. I didn't confess to him—he was the one who confessed to me. And I rejected him. I'm not that kind of guy, you know."
His friends nodded in agreement, murmuring among themselves.
Then, one of his closest friends smirked. "Hey, Jain, let's make a bet."
Jain frowned. "A bet?"
The guy leaned forward, eyes glinting with mischief. "If you can get Wonwoo to confess to you in front of all of us, I'll give you that bike you've been eyeing. But if you fail, you give me your premium membership card."
Jain considered it for a moment. He already likes me. How hard can it be to get him to confess again?
With a confident smirk, he extended his hand. "Deal."
Their friends chuckled, some placing bets on who would win.
The very next day, Jain started visiting the café where Wonwoo worked. He sat right in front of the counter, making sure Wonwoo could see him. For two days straight, he did this, never ordering much—just watching.
On the third day, as Jain took his usual seat, Wonwoo finally spoke.
"...Why do you keep coming here?" His voice was quiet, his gaze lowered as he clenched his apron.
Jain leaned back in his chair, pretending to be casual. "I realized I was a jerk the other day. I wanted to apologize."
Wonwoo looked up at him, surprise flickering in his eyes. "You... what?"
"I'm sorry," Jain said, this time more sincerely. "I said a lot of harsh things. That wasn't fair to you."
For a moment, there was silence. Then, Wonwoo's lips curled into a small, genuine smile. "Thank you."
Jain studied his face, noticing how his entire demeanor brightened at those words. Guilt pricked at his chest. This was supposed to be a game, but why did he suddenly feel like it wasn't?
Taking a deep breath, Jain pushed forward. "I was hoping we could start over. As friends."
Wonwoo hesitated. For a brief second, Jain thought he might refuse. But then, Wonwoo's expression softened.
"Okay," he said with a small nod. "Let's be friends."
Jain grinned, but deep down, he felt something unsettling twist inside him.
This bet... might not be as simple as he thought.
