After their study session, David and Jain gathered their things and prepared to head home. As they reached the bottom of the building, a voice called out behind them.
"Jain!"
They turned to see Wonwoo rushing toward them, slightly out of breath. When he finally reached them, he took a moment to catch his breath before pulling a small pouch from his pocket.
"You forgot this in my apartment," he said, handing it to Jain.
Noticing how exhausted Wonwoo looked, David immediately grabbed his wrist, guiding him to a nearby bench. Without a word, he pulled a water bottle from his bag and handed it to him.
"Drink," David ordered in a firm tone. "Why did you come running? You could've just called us, and we would've come back up to get it."
Wonwoo hesitated for a second before replying nervously, "It's okay, I'm fine. Nothing to worry about."
From a short distance away, Jain observed their interaction. There was something effortless about their bond—years of friendship woven into small gestures of care. He found himself admiring it. But then, almost instinctively, reality hit him. He wasn't getting close to them because he wanted to. This was all for a bet.
As he walked home, lost in thought, Jain spotted one of his friends heading into a pub. He didn't follow him but couldn't shake the curiosity—what was he doing there?
The next day at school, Jain approached his friend. "I saw you going into a pub last night," he said casually.
His friend's eyes widened in alarm before he quickly grabbed Jain's arm and pulled him aside. "Don't tell anyone," he pleaded.
Jain smirked, enjoying the situation. "And what do I get in return?"
His friend looked annoyed but knew he had no other choice. Gritting his teeth, he sighed. "Fine. I'll help you complete your bet faster."
Jain's smirk deepened. This was exactly what he needed.
