After their café break, Jain and Wonwoo continued wandering through the city streets. The sky had begun to shift to hues of orange and pink, the warm colors casting a soft glow on their faces. Wonwoo found himself oddly at ease, despite the teasing and his initial nervousness.
Jain stretched his arms and let out a content sigh. "Today was fun, wasn't it?"
Wonwoo nodded slightly. "Yeah... it was."
Jain smirked. "You sound surprised."
Wonwoo opened his mouth to argue but stopped himself. Wasn't he the one who kept telling himself that this was just a fake date? So why did he actually... enjoy it?
As they walked past a small arcade, Jain suddenly grabbed Wonwoo's wrist. "Let's go in!"
"Huh? Why—"
Before he could protest, Jain had already pulled him inside. The flashing lights and lively sounds filled the space as they walked through the rows of games.
"Let's make a bet," Jain said, pointing at a claw machine filled with stuffed animals.
"A bet?" Wonwoo asked cautiously.
Jain grinned. "I'll try to win a plushie for you. But if I fail, you have to do one thing I say."
Wonwoo narrowed his eyes. "And what if you win?"
Jain leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a playful whisper. "Then you'll still owe me something... because I won it for you."
Wonwoo felt his breath hitch. "That's unfair."
Jain chuckled. "Life is unfair, sweetheart."
Flustered, Wonwoo looked away. "Fine. Do whatever you want."
Jain confidently inserted the coins and moved the claw, eyes sharp with focus. The claw descended, gripping a small white bear. It lifted—wobbled—and then dropped the plushie perfectly into the prize slot.
Jain turned to Wonwoo, smirking as he handed him the plushie. "Looks like you owe me."
Wonwoo clutched the stuffed bear, feeling strangely warm inside. "What do you want?"
Jain pretended to think for a moment before grinning mischievously. "Let me take a picture of you holding that."
Wonwoo blinked. "That's it?"
Jain nodded. "Yeah. I want proof that I won you something cute."
Wonwoo hesitated but sighed in defeat. "Fine..."
Jain took out his phone and snapped a picture. But instead of looking satisfied, his expression softened as he stared at the screen.
Wonwoo looked adorable, holding the plushie with a slightly embarrassed look on his face. Jain had started this date as part of his game—pulling Wonwoo in so that he would confess in front of everyone. But now... something felt different.
This wasn't just a game anymore, was it?
Jain quickly lowered his phone and smirked to cover up his thoughts. "Alright, let's go before it gets late."
They left the arcade and slowly walked toward the bus stop. The ride home was quiet, both of them lost in their thoughts. When they finally reached Wonwoo's house, he turned to Jain.
"Thanks for today," Wonwoo said, looking down at the plushie in his hands. "It was... nice."
Jain grinned, his usual playful self. "Of course. I am a great date, after all."
Wonwoo rolled his eyes but smiled softly. "Goodnight, Jain."
Jain watched as Wonwoo stepped inside. His smile faded slightly as he looked down at his phone again.
What was this feeling?
And why did it feel like he was the one falling instead?
