After their weekend date, both Wonwoo and Jain found themselves hesitating to talk to each other. The usual ease between them had shifted into something unfamiliar—something neither of them was ready to acknowledge yet.
David, ever observant, quickly picked up on the awkward silence between them. As they sat together in the cafeteria, he frowned and crossed his arms.
"Did something happen between you two?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No!" Wonwoo and Jain blurted out at the same time, their voices louder than necessary.
David narrowed his eyes. "Then why aren't you talking to each other?"
Both of them exchanged a quick glance before immediately looking away, their faces slightly red.
David let out an exaggerated sigh. "Alright, fine. Keep your secrets. But at least answer this—where are we studying today?"
Jain hesitated, twirling his fork. "I... I'm not available today. I have to meet some friends."
David shrugged. "That's fine. You can join us tomorrow, then."
Jain nodded, feeling a strange sense of relief. He needed space to think.
After finishing their lunch, classes continued as usual. But every time Wonwoo and Jain accidentally made eye contact, they quickly looked away, both flustered. David, watching this ridiculous dance, muttered, "Unbelievable."
As the final bell rang, Wonwoo and David walked home together while Jain, as he had said, headed off to meet his friends.
Jain arrived at the café where his so-called "friends" were waiting. Park, the one who had made the bet with him, leaned back in his chair, stirring his iced coffee lazily.
"So? Are you backing out?" Park asked, his sharp gaze fixed on Jain.
Jain stiffened but kept his face neutral. "What do you mean?"
Park scoffed. "Come on, Jain. You were supposed to make Wonwoo confess in front of everyone, but it's been weeks, and all I see is you playing house with him. Are you actually falling for him?"
Jain's fingers curled into fists under the table. "Of course not," he lied smoothly. "I'm just taking my time. He'll confess soon enough."
Another friend smirked. "Really? Because from what I saw, you were the one acting like a lovesick fool on your little date."
Jain clenched his jaw, but before he could speak, Park leaned in, smirking. "Alright, then. Prove it. Speed things up. If you can't get him to confess in the next three days, we'll assume you've lost."
Jain's heart pounded. Three days? That wasn't enough time—was it?
But he couldn't let them see him waver. He forced a smirk onto his face. "Fine. Just watch."
But as he sat there, pretending to be unfazed, a nagging doubt crept into his mind.
Was he really doing this for the bet... or was he just finding excuses to stay close to Wonwoo?
