Jain and Wonwoo were just about to part ways when a heavy feeling settled in Jain's chest. Wonwoo's words from earlier still lingered in his mind, leaving him with an unfamiliar ache. He had expected to feel victorious, but all he felt was regret.
From a distance, Park had been watching them. Seeing them together, he assumed that Jain had succeeded in making Wonwoo confess. A wide grin spread across his face as he walked toward them, placing a firm hand on Jain's shoulder.
"Bro, you're something else!" Park chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "I thought you were gonna lose when I said three days, but damn, you actually won. I can't believe it!" He laughed loudly, completely oblivious to the tension in the air.
Wonwoo frowned, confusion evident on his face. "What is he talking about?" he asked, glancing between Jain and Park.
Jain stiffened. His mind went blank, panic creeping into his veins. He needed to stop this. Now.
But before he could find the words, Park shrugged casually and turned to Wonwoo. "Oh, you didn't know? Jain made a bet with us that he'd get you to confess again. He was taking too long, so I gave him just three days. Honestly, I thought he'd lose, but you proved me wrong." Park laughed again, completely unaware of the damage his words were causing. "Man, you really do like him, huh?"
Jain's heart dropped.
"Park, shut up!" he snapped, his voice louder than intended.
Park blinked, surprised at Jain's outburst. "Alright, alright, I won't bother you. Just don't forget to throw us a party for winning." He patted Jain's shoulder one last time before walking away, leaving the two of them standing there in suffocating silence.
Jain hesitantly turned to Wonwoo, but the moment he saw his face, his breath caught in his throat.
Wonwoo stood frozen, his head lowered, shoulders trembling slightly. His hands were clenched into tight fists, knuckles white from the pressure. Jain took a cautious step closer.
"Wonwoo, listen to me," he pleaded. "Let me explain before you misunderstand—"
Wonwoo suddenly lifted his head, and Jain's words died in his throat.
Tears streamed down Wonwoo's face, his expression twisted in pain. His voice broke as he whispered, "So... this was all just a stupid bet?"
Jain felt his heart shatter.
This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
He had realized too late that he didn't care about the bet anymore. That all he wanted was to be with Wonwoo—not as part of some cruel game, but because he truly, genuinely liked him.
But now, staring into Wonwoo's devastated eyes, he realized something even worse.
He had already lost him.
