Chapter 9
‘Samuel’
‘My fate?’
‘We're only called that, you can call us whatever you want.’
‘What happened?’
‘You never made it to the portal, we began to worry.’ The figure was in front of him when he finally looked up.
‘What happened to everyone else?’
‘We believe they are in different cells.’ He could feel his arms,
they were tied to something. ‘We’re trapped.’
‘No, the Last Knight of Marshlake cannot be trapped.’
‘What even is the Last Knight huh?’
‘You are my child. I cannot lie to you, but if I tell you it might not be.’
‘your child, huh? Then why wouldn’t you help me? In the human realm, being bullied, everything. Why didn’t you help me?’
‘We are trapped, our souls float to the key when death. When the key was unlocked by the book we were set free.’ Samuel stood up in front of the figure,
‘Where is she?’
‘She is here.’ The figure gestured towards their chest.
‘Your mother did not know of this realm, nor its power.’
‘So how is she in you?’
‘We were with her our entire lives.’ Samuel was done with this,
‘Tell me everything.’
‘Yes, we shall. But you must not tell the outside world of this, if they know your life shall change forever. The Great Knight was a powerful man and he made the books and the keys, which as you know were connected.’ The figure started to pace, ‘every key destroyed were generations of knights killed, but one key survived. That key ended up in the human realm, where it thrived. Finding somebody to take on the task almost instantly, and it stayed with them. The book can cast spells, and speak to you. The key can talk to the soul, and see the future.’ Samuel couldn’t believe it,
‘So the key and the book are sentient, and can connect to people.’
‘And they connected with your family.’ The figure said.
‘So what do I call you then?’ The figure did a surprised motion even without a face.
‘You can call me whatever you wish’ Samuel thought for a bit,
‘Diya, I'm calling you Diya.’ Samuel said to Diya.
‘As you wish Samuel.’
‘So are you able to help me get out of here?’
‘I can appear as an illusion to you and be able to talk to you, but I cannot interfere with anything.’
‘That's all I need.’
Samuel woke up in a dingy cell with hands bound to the walls. There were two walls on his sides, and prison bars in front of him.
“Ah, you're awake.” Samuel looked up to see the commander that got them captured, and suddenly Diya appeared next to him.
‘Wow, their outfits changed.’ The commander came down to Samuels eye level,
“You’ve been causing us a whole lot of trouble.”
“It’s what I do best.” Samuel replied.
The Commander scowled, “You have been put to death by order of the controllers order.” Samuel couldn’t help but laugh. The Commander looked confused, and Diya was laughing as well.
“Why are you laughing?” Samuel looked up.
“Order of controllers order? Doesn't that sound a little bit funny to you?” Samuel was smirking.
“Well whatever was funny it doesn't matter, you are to be put to death in 10 hours. You’ve been asleep for 14 hours.” Samuel stopped laughing and looked up,
“That’s all I need.” The Commander scowled at him again and pulled out some keys. Diya appeared next to him,
‘Alright what’s the plan?’ Samuel looked at her and then boosted right out into the commander,
“That's the plan.”
‘You know I can read your thoughts right? You don't have to say anything out loud,’ Diya said,
‘That's something you should have told me.’ Samuel thought. Samuel started running down the cells to find a room that read ‘storage’ Samuel looked at Diya,
‘Are you able to go in there and see if anyone’s there?’ Samuel thought.
Diya smiled ‘Of course,’ Diya went right through the door, and came out with a thumbs up. Samuel entered the room to see chests and chests of items, eventually he found his things. Right next to Jacksons and Sylvans.
Samuel exited the room with Diya only to see three other controllers in the hallway.
‘So how does this thing work?’ Diya looked at Samuel,
‘What thing?’ Samuel ran the other way.
‘Like when I go back to the human realm, will you be able to follow me or what?’
‘Of course as long as you are connected to that book, so are we.’ Samuel stopped.
“Wait the book!” Samuel said a bit too loud.
“Where's the book?” Diya looked confused,
‘You're connected to the book, it finds its way to you.’ The three Controllers were running at him.
“Last Knight stand down!” One of them yelled,
Samuel ran at them and sliced one of them in the side. Then bashed the same one with the hilt of his blade, and they didn’t get up.
‘I’m never going to get used to this.’ Samuel thought.
Then the second controller ran at him, and Samuel dodged and broke his spear. Diya was floating by his shoulder,
‘They never usually do.’ Right as another soldier could attack Samuel with his sword.
Samuel parried the sword and attacked the soldier directly. Then Samuel attempts to hit the soldier with his walking stick, but the soldier dodges.
‘What do you mean they?’ just as the third soldier fails to stab Samuel, and Samuel sets his cape on fire. The second soldier lunges at Samuel, but Samuel dodges and hits him with the hilt of his sword. There's only one soldier left, but a blast of energy hits Samuel from behind. The commander got up,
‘Your ancestors had to kill people sadly, one had to kill a whole army at once.’ Diya said.
‘Is this going to be a normal thing with you?’ Samuel thought, Diya looked like she was thinking for a second
‘probably.’
‘So are you able to go back to my dreams?’ Samuel used his staff to hit the controller that was on fire, making him yelp.
The commander shot another blast of energy at Samuel. ‘Whenever you want I’m really only useful for History, prophecy, and basic tasks. But trust me you need me right now, all of this coming into place because of one dimensional rift.’
‘Ya a rift that almost got me killed.’ Samuel shot a blast at the commander, hitting him but he’s not down yet.
‘Don’t talk like that. I’m in your head. I know what you're thinking, and you want to be here and you want to come back to this place. Who can blame you.’ Samuel hit the last Controller troop one last time and turned his control to the Commander.
‘So what do we do when we go home?’ Samuel thought to Diya,
‘I don't know, it’s your life. I’ll just be there to guide you, help you achieve.’ Samuel did the final shot at the commander, and turned to Diya.
“That sounds nice. I need you in my head right now though.”
‘Of course Samuel.’ Diya slowly dissipated out of being an illusion. It was time to find his friends.
Samuel raced through the building; he was able to open the door, but he wasn’t able to find his friends. He turned another corner to see two controllers who looked at him with complete fear, Samuel could see it by now. Samuel walked closer to them then summoned a ball of light. They immediately dropped their spears and ran away. Samuel ran to the cells and looked in them,
“Well look who finally showed up.” Sylvan said. Samuel smiled at him,
“You know you missed me” he squeezed a bag of his belongings to him. He turned to the other cell opposite of his,
“good to see you my friend.” Jackson exclaimed to Samuel. Samuel threw his stuff. Samuel made vines come out of the floor to open their cells.
“How was your time in prison?” Sylvan asked,
“Well I was able to figure out what those dreams were about.” Jackson jumped to Samuels side.
“Really! I want to know!” Samuel smiled,
“Diya. Meet my friends.”
Diya came in her illusion form as she always does but showed it to Jackson and Sylvan.
‘I am not able to talk to them, but you are able to tell them what I’m saying.’ Samuel turned to Jackson and Sylvan, who looked astonished.
“She’s not able to talk to the physical world but I can translate for her, she says hi. She is a makeup of all the past Knights, including my mom.” Jackson did a silent gasp and Samuels words.
“So she can only speak to you?” Sylvan asked.
“Ya she was trapped in the book, and can only talk to the chosen one of the keys. Who is yours truly.” Samuel explained, “But right now we have to get out of here.” Suddenly the men guarding the cells came around the corner with four other guards. Samuel took a step towards them,
“Come back for more?” The two guards stepped back a bit and the others came closer. One of the other guards came up,
“Knight, stand down and we will not harm you.” Samuel pulled out his wand, and shot a firework at the group of soldiers. All of them were blown back from the explosion, but one ran straight at Samuel. In return while the guard was running at Samuel, he used his staff to trip the man. The man fell straight onto the floor.
“Ow.”
Samuel ran at the other three Guards, and shot a blast of energy at one. They fell to the floor. Samuel grabbed his long sword, and lunged at the fourth guard. The guard stumbled onto the floor, while being stabbed. Jackson ran from behind Samuel, and punched somebody right in the face with his gauntlet. Another soldier ran at Jackson with their spear, Jackson ducked out of the way of the guard. Samuel ran at the guard slamming him in the head with his staff. The soldier fell backward into the wall, just when another soldier was using their warhammer to slam samuel. Samuel rolled out of the way and cut the person's leg with his shortsword. The person fell to one knee, and Sylvan came around Samuel and cut them by the neck.
“Dark.” Samuel said.
Sylvan smiled “Isn’t that life?” The two men who called the guards were staring at them. Samuel came closer to them,
“You may go, but you don't mess with the will of the Knight.” They both nodded and bowed before Samuel,
“Yes Knight.” They both ran away as soon as Samuel turned around.
“The fearsome knight of Marshlake, I see.” Sylvan said once Samuel turned around.
“Well how does power match with ones who can't control it.” Samuel twisted the words of the commanders that they had met, and made it into a fun version. “It can't be controlled.”
Samuel, Sylvan, and Jackson went through the door at the end of the hall. When they went through they found themselves in a field filled with controllers. Samuel looked behind them to find that they had been in some kind of temple, and it also seemed to be the base of the controllers. Samuel looked at Sylvan and Jackson,
“Don't move a muscle.” Samuel said.
Sylvan looked horrified “Well how are we going too…” Samuel ran between Sylvan and Jackson and boosted them right out of the camp. “A warning next time please!” Sylvan gasped for air.
“Sorry, I didn't think you would be so surprised.” Samuel said.
“Sam is that…” Samuel turned around to see the portal closed.
“We just have to get over there…” Before Samuel could grab Sylvan and Jacksons wrists to boost them all to the portal, an explosion erupted between them all.
“You really think you're safe after you go through the portal,” Said a voice from behind them. Samuel turned to see the commander they originally faced,
“That was the plan.” Samuel said.
“Don't worry HIM already knows what's going to happen, and the world will finally be controlled. The only thing in the way is you two, even if you're in the other realm you're a threat. You hold the power of gods!” The commander seemed like he was losing his sanity, “Just give up, you've caused too much trouble for HIM and if you let go now, there might be a chance to undo it.” The Commander looked like he was pleading Samuel to follow him.
Samuel looked down, “Like every day, I am forced to follow the world. What they say is ‘Better.’” Samuel looked at the Commander, “I’m done following the rest of the world, I'm following me.” The commander looked so angry.
“You follow the world, or you follow nothing. Is that who you want to be?”
Samuel smiled and looked at the commander. “I think so.”
Samuel shot a blast of energy at the commander, making him be pushed back into the darkness of the forest.
