It takes a bit of time and it is nearing seven in the evening, when Doris and Deloris have taken turns talking to various people on the phone, and taken turns running the front desk. They put me in an office in the actual Archive. At some point a small tea cart rolled itself into the room with a collection of various tiny sandwiches, and some cookies, along with a hot cup of coffee.
My time hidden away in the office, besides when one of the twins check on me, is spent sketching. Most of the sketches are simple, like the mug and cart that the Archive had brought to me. Or a few sketches of the Sisters, both together and separate. I even sketched Devlin from various points in time throughout the day.
Thinking of Devlin I remember the jolt when we touched earlier. I hadn't asked either of the sisters about it. But they are busy taking care of the front Archive, and making calls to double check that I am a "Chosen of Death". I wonder if the Archive itself might help me?
"Umm...Archive...would you be able to help me do some research?" I ask aloud, not sure if the Archive will help or how it would do it.
The lamp next to me turns itself off, and then after a few seconds, turns itself back on. And I feel the pressure of the Archive's magic against me before it disappears again.
Looking at the lamp, my mouth opens and closes a few times before I nod.
"I'll take that as a yes," I say, a smile forming, "Um, could you flash the lamp twice for yes and once for no?"
Beside me, the lamp flashes twice rapidly.
"Cool," I whisper before speaking louder. "I believe you heard me explain what happened earlier. About how I died and Devlin came back with me?"
The light flashes twice once more.
Nodding I continue, "Well, we hadn't come into physical contact with each other for the majority of the day, but before we left the Summoning Scroll, we did. And there was this jolt, but it didn't hurt. And it also wasn't static."
The lamp flashes twice, but also beside the desk the little cart rattles. The only thing I can think to compare it to is when someone is very excited and they start to jump, that is almost what it seems like the cart is doing.
"Do you know what it was? Or things it could have been?" I ask, my eyes darting between the cart and the lamp.
Again the lamp flashes twice, but now the cart has wheeled itself back towards the door.
"Um...Do you want me to follow?" I ask.
The lamp flashes and the cart rattles again.
With a shrug, I leave my stuff on the desk and stand, and follow the cart from the office.
The cart is rattling in a way that seems…Happy or excited, not quite sure which yet. As this entire thing is so very new to me, and I'm confused but excited.
We cross to the other side of the archive quickly, the entire time lamps and lights flash once or twice and I walk past. The cart makes a sharp turn down an aisle of shelves. As we pass, I notice some of the book seem to lift and then set back down as we pass them. It is a strange series of events, but I smile more as I notice the various movements of the Archive.
Sudden the cart stops, I almost walk right into it. I manage to stop and catch myself just a few inches from the handle. A tapping noise beside me starts up. Turning my head I see several books lifting and dropping, but they don't settle back down like the ones I'd passed had. I glance around. Nope no one else is nearby, and no light above flickering.
"Are these what you want me to look at?" I whisper.
At my question the cart rattles once more and the books seem to pick up speed, and force. The taps becoming closer to thuds.
"Okay, okay, stop making so much noise," I whisper yell, directing it towards the books.
Slowly the books settle back into slight taps, possibly so I know which books to grab.
I start grabbing the books that are moving and placing them onto the cart. They settle and stop moving as soon as I'm touching them. There are 5 in total. Once I set all five books on the cart, it rattles once and takes off again. This time it appears to be heading back towards the office that I had spent most of my time in since I'd arrived at the Archive today.
"Thank you Archive," I say, patting the wall on my way to the desk.
I guess it is time for me to do some research.
