Hikaru walks alongside Krista as she descends slowly from the air, her movements gentle yet labored. He studies her with cautious concern, his gaze occasionally darting to their surroundings.
"How are the wounds?" he asks, keeping his tone neutral. "Do you need help?"
Krista sinks to the ground, clutching her side. Her voice trembles slightly as she replies, "I may need some help to tend my wounds..."
Hikaru is still wary about the situation and looks around the forest. "Alright," he finally says, and his voice is steady. "Alright, i'll help to tend your wounds."
She eases herself onto the forest floor, leaning against a moss-covered rock. "I’ll wait here," she whispers, closing her eyes.
Hikaru sighs and he begin to venture deep into the jungle, and each step is deliberate. The dense foliage swallows the sunlight, casting shadows that twist across his path. He searches for sticky resin and broad leaves. To avoid losing his way, he carves small marks into the bark of every fourth tree.
Hikaru finds a thick, resinous substance oozing from a tree ideal for sealing wounds. Clutching the sticky sap and a bundle of broad leaves, he turns back toward Krista. Then he stops midway while he is holding the sticky resin, and looks down at it.
Why help her?
He doesn’t know why he is helping the Snow fox creature in the first place, and it was the only logical thing to do. He dismissed the thought and proceeded to go back to where Krista was.
The night have fallen and the darkness drapes the jungle, but Hikaru’s vision pierces the darkness with ease. He is bothered by this situation, but he paid no mind. Then a distant howls ripple through the trees behind him, and His grip tightens on the supplies. When he finally reaches the clearing, Krista lies curled on the ground, her breathing shallow but steady. He kneels beside her, brushing a hand against her fur.
“I’ll tend to your injuries now,” Hikaru says while he whispers.
“Alright.” The Fox nods her head.
As he works spreading resin over her wounds, binding them with leaves, the noise from the jungle begins. There is are bunch of rustling sounds of the leaves as the wind picks up. He looks around and scans the trees, but can't see anything. Although it is rather unsettling that no one is there to begin with but it feels like they are being watched.
“They’re here, aren’t they?” he whispers to Krista as he is finishing the improvised bandage.
“Yeah, I believe so…” Krista whimpers on the pain.
Twenty minutes pass without movement, the jungle’s stillness unnerving. But as he steps back to assess his work, a shadow emerges from the bushes. A wolf lunges, teeth bared, aiming for Krista then Hikaru’s arm swings in a fluid arc and his fist connects with the beast’s jaw. He manages to knock down the wolf, and He scoops up the fox and bolts away.
Behind them, howls erupt from the forest, and the bushes shudder as a dozen wolves surge into pursuit, their snarls shredding the night. Hikaru continues to run, and his rising adrenaline is now sharpening his focus. “Is this the pack you mentioned?” he shouts over the chaos.
“Yes! But the leader isn’t here!” The fox holds on tight to Hikaru’s body. He continues to run even faster, and he feels more alive than anything. He jumped over the logs and kept up the pace.
“You said that wolves aren't nocturnal, right?” Hikaru smiles with hope while he continues to run with his bare feet. "It’s almost night time, so we should be safe."
“Yes, but they are still biologically wolves, so they can still hunt at night,” Krista answers back while she is looking behind.
I mean a wolf is a wolf and they won’t stop until their prey is dead. Assuming that these wolves have higher intelligence than a normal wolf. Besides this fox can speak telepathically. Hikaru looks behind while dodging and vaulting at the in coming branches.
“Oh right you can hear that…” Hikaru forgot that Krista can hear people’s thoughts.
“Yes, I have, but don’t be bothered. I don’t meddle in someone's thoughts even if I can hear them, and I normally ignore them.” The fox warns Hikaru to dodge an incoming attack.
A wolf lunges at Hikaru from the side, but he twists mid-stride, leaping off its back as if vaulting over a log. His bare foot connects with the wolf’s snout, sending it sprawling. Two more beasts charge in unison, and Hikaru springs upward, planting a foot on each of their skulls to propel himself onto a low-hanging branch. The wood crunches under his weight, but he doesn’t pause. Then he started jumping over the branches.
Three hours since he is being chase by the wolves the relentless assault continues. He keeps on vaulting and sprinting at the branches, and he is trying his best not to stumble or falter. One wrong move and He and Krista will die.
A dark smoke starts to appear on his shoulder and Hikaru hasn’t realize it yet. When he turn his head to look over the wolves he saw the dark smoky aura, and he got distracted for a brief moment. In that moment four wolves lunges together, and he manage to dodge the attack. He stumbles on branch and causing him to slam over the tree and causing him to roll over and lose his grip to the fox.
A couple minutes has gone by and There are wolves circling around him, and there is a huge figure towering over Krista. The huge beast seems to be communicating to her while his tail swishes.
“Krista… where are you…” Hikaru groans from the pain, and his vision is recovering from the blurriness. The huge wolf-like creature with a machine at the back looks back at him and orders the wolves to eat him up to shreds.
“Get away… From her…” Hikaru clenches his fist.
Hikaru sees a scenario similar to what happened to her father, and something inside him erupts. He roared at the wolves, and there was a faint dark aura that sent a few of the wolves back. The huge wolf-like creature looks back again with interest, but that isn’t his mission right now. He simply ignores him and continues to talk to Krista.
A voice suddenly appears inside Hikaru’s head and asks him a question.
“Oh, finally we can communicate, so I have a question for you… Are you worthy of this power?”
