There was a knock on the door before it was opened again and a petite blonde woman stepped in. A feeling of deep warmth settled in me when I saw that she too was a siren. I feel like this is on purpose now.

"Hello, Sam. I'm Belle, I'm a victim advocate or counselor. I'm here to support you through this difficult process and answer any questions you may have to help you feel as comfortable as possible."

I nodded... for the millionth time today.

Belle stepped closer, "how're you holding up?"

I shrugged, "I don't know. I'm worried he'll find out about this somehow and... I don't know."

"I hear where you're coming from. Your privacy and safety is our main focus here. Everything you've said here today will not get back to him. The detective will not contact him about any of this until she is certain he will not be able to interfere with your safety."

I felt slightly more reassured.

"Do you have any more questions for me?" Belle asked the both of us.

I shook my head, no.

"I don't but thank you so much," West said.

Belle smiled, "of course. Here's my card. You can contact me anytime if you have questions or concerns. I'll be in touch, Sam. I know it's been tough today, but try to see the positives here. You took a giant step in the right direction. You've been incredibly brave and I'm very proud of you."

Warmth spread through my chest at her words as I started purring again. She did as well in comfort before she stood up and motioned us to follow her to the front.

I was handed additional contact information, a case number, and a pamphlet for counseling and support groups in the area.

I was still filled with nervousness and fear, but it felt like a giant weight had been lifted off of me.

West bumped my shoulder lightly, "I say we have a lazy day and order in a bunch of blueberry scones."

I laughed lightly and nodded.
