The Fate of the Treacherous

A New Power

A New Power

Mar 28, 2025

The pair gasped, eyes lit with wonder.

Casian had decided to distort their perception. What an obivous thing. Whether it would be completely lost or completely enhanced was a gamble, it wouldn't cease or be replaced… just changed. Just distorted.

If their perception was 10x higher they would forcibly perceive a sixth sense— soul sense, and be able to grasp their ability. If their perception was 10x lower they would grow panicked and slow, the sudden change hopefully activating some sort of a fail safe- and a soul bound power.

Casian knew this was a gamble, but what other choice did he have?

It seemed his distortion had amplified Sarerh's perception, but diminished Lana's. Then, Casian let go, and what was once twisted regained its equilibrium, and their perception was back to normal.

"So. Can you guys feel it?" Casian asked.

Sareth's face was contorted with anger.

"How dare you do such a thing without warning!" He shouted. Lana didn't seem to be paying attention though, nor did she seem angry.

"…Thank you." She said to Casian. Sareth's eyes were furrowed with anger, and just got worse with Lana's gratefulness. She reached held out her palm, and as she focused on it, her skin became rough and course… like it was made of stone.

"It will be quite hard to injure me now." She said confidently.

A useful tank. Perhaps not overpowered, but not to be underestimated.

Sareth, despite his anger, stared at Lana's palm with keen interest, seeming to recognize her ability as strong.

Casian looked to Sareth.

"And you?"

Sareth flinched. He sighed.

"I-I'm not completely sure…"

He said, before sighing deeply. He closed his eyes and inhaled sharply, and in front of him he manifested a large bolt of light. It hovered infront of him.

"What does it do?" Lana asked immediately.

Sareth grimaced, seeming to have used a lot of his soul to create the bolt.

"I- I'm not sure." He says shakily.

Casian sighed. At least it was something. Lana looked impressed though, but she tried not to show it.

"Well. I'm all out of juice. Looks like Lana got some great defence, I have… my uses. And Sareth, well we'll have to find out. Are we all ready to venture into the labyrinth?"

Casian asked. His two teammates, still at odds, were now focused on their new abilities, too intrigued to pick up their argument where it last left off.

Lana looked at the two boys in her group intently. "I should lead then. At least I can defend myself." No one objected.

"Well. Let's go." Lana said, headed to the door. Casian followed behind trailed behind was Sareth, who looked terrified. The bolt of light still circled him however.

Lana opened the door, and chill breeze blew into their faces. Outside of the room was pitch black. Lana and Casian looked back at Sareth, whose weird light thing now seemed enormously helpful.

Sareth could barely suppress his fear. He silently took the lead, despite being scared, understanding the looked of his two teammates.

The bolt barely illuminated the corridor, but from what Casian could see, it was unnerving. The walls of the labyrinth were tall, reaching into the sky endlessly. Casian couldn't see where it ended. It was also very empty, with little to no debris or clutter. Just an empty path… forwards.

And the most worrisome thing. The room behind them had vanished, leaving another endless corridor it it's wake. The group wordlessly decided to move forward.

They walked, and they walked, and they walked. None of them dare broke the silence. Then, in the distance, they saw something.

It looked like a regal statue, or at least, it must have been, before being torn to bits. The stone was strangely similar to the one Lana manifested on her skin. With new hope within the endless corridor the trio marched on with a fatser pace, eventually reaching the statue.

Casian, being the uncouth man he is, broke the silence first.

"Shall we search it?" He said.

Sareth nervously looked at the crumbled statue.

"What if it's a trap?" He said voicing his fears.

Casian considered it, but they haven't seen anything else in hours, and he was starting to grow fearful. Even if it were a trap, anything— anything at all to ease his inecessant anxiety was welcome. Lest he went mad.

Lana looked at it.

"I'll investigate first." She says promptly. This time, turning her whole body to stone, and with a weird confidence, jumbled through the rubble. To Sareth's relief it wasn't a trap, or maybe he'd like Lana to fall to a trap, considering their… precarious relationship.

"This is just a heap of stone." Lana declares.

Weird…

Casian turns to the walls of the endless corridor around the statue, looking for anything that might be different. To his disappointment, nothing seems out of place. Sareth sits and observes the two, letting his legs rest after their long, eventless treak.

Lana finds the head of the statue in the rubble and holds it upright before peering below it, where it was creepily hollow.

Casian then moved his attention to the floor, and it looked identical to the rest of the corridor. He sat down a little bit away from Sareth and sighed, also tired. Lana was surely tired as well but maybe her ability negated it a bit, as a stone girl herself holding up the head of the stone statue was creepy… and the face of the statue was subtlety feminine.

"Are you going to sit down too?" Casian asked Lana. Lana looked back at Casian and Sareth and signed. She let go of her power and her skin regained its humanity and plopped down beside Casian, putting him between Sareth and Lana.

The three of them were getting tired.

"This is hopeless." Sareth says.

The two don't answer in silent agreement. Casian slid down, laying on the floor, looking up at the endlessly high walls of the labyrinth. He was so tired. Today… was so tiring.

Then, he felt soemthing beneath him. The ground… it was grooved. Very subtlety, and almost imperceptibly. His eyes widened.

"Sareth, bring your bolt over here. Closer to the ground." Casian said.

Sareth, not really caring, did as he said, willing it to drop. Casian's eyes looked at the grooves. He couldn't see them, but when he ran his fingers across the grounds… he could faintly feel something. Soemthing faintly similar to an arc… he slowly traced the floor with his finger, and found he traced a circle.

"What are you doing?" Lana asked.

"Feeling the floor."

Casian's pondered.

"I- I think I know how we can get out of here."
