Chapter 3
“So all we have to do now is travel through the tunnels.” Sylvan said in front of a large building.
“I thought you said it was underground.” Jackson said to Sylvan,
“Well, yes it is, but the school thought it would be better to have a little station building to go down into the tunnels. Protection procedures.” Said Sylvan.
Samuel approached the building, “It doesn’t look like anyone’s here.”
“Not many people come to this station so there's only one person guarding the facility.” Sylvan approached the building door and slammed his fist against it, “Hey Florid, open up!”
Multiple sounds were heard before a young elf came to the door. “Sorry Mr. Modork.” Said the young elf who Samuel presumed to be Florid, “I’ll get the platform ready.” The man hurried into the back of the building.
“Come on you two, it's time you see the tunnels!” Sylvan stepped onto a circle that was in front of the building. Samuel and Jackson followed. Once all of them were on the platform there was a loud creaking noise, and the platform started to lower in a circular motion.
“Wow,” Jackson said.
“Ha, I knew you two would like it! Once I got the school board to excavate all of the materials from the controllers hideouts, we found out that the controllers have been making immense technological advancements. We used some of them to make these.”
Once they had lowered for what seemed to be all the way, they were in one of the burrow rat tunnels but it had been more modernized. There was what seemed to be some kind of railway, and lights lining the ceiling. There also seemed to be a kind of minecart.
Jackson ran to the minecart, “What is this?”
“We call it the traveler, still trying to find out a name. The idea was to try to connect all of Marshlake, and it’s actually working!” Sylvan said, “This one leads straight to the Academy, and takes very little time.” Sylvan jumped onto the side of the large minecart.
“In our world we call these trains.” Samuel suggested.
Sylvan thought for a second, “Trains, I’ll bring it to the board. Right now come on, we got to get you two to school it starts tommorow.”
Samuel smiled at Jackson, who was already on the train, and jumped into the vehicle. This train was different then the ones in the Human Realm, It didn't have any passengers. It was just the engine itself, but it did have extra seating. Sylvan cast spark snap over a pile of coal, and ignited it. Then placed a crystal above it which floated above the coal, and glowed. Sylvan took a seat in front and the vehicle started to move, fast! The crystal was glowing very bright, then two bolts of electricity shot out of it from the top and the bottom.
“So Sylvan we have to tell you something.” Samuel said,
Sylvan turned toward Samuel “Sure what’s up?”
Samuel sighed, “When we were going through the portal, I was touched by the energy again. Something pulled me into it, and now my magic is different.”
“Different how?” Sylvan said,
Samuel held up his hand and tried to cast his light spell, and created a light that should only be created by a wand.
“That's not right…” Sylvan said, “Has this happened before?”
“No, it only started when I was touched by dimensional energy again. Diya wont tell me what it is and neither will Tome, they said I have to figure it out on my own. They also said the answer lies in the academy.”
“Ok, so then I’ll help you in any way I can. You can try and search the library, probably the best place to start looking. Does your Necklace still work?”
Samuel’s eyes widened as he looked down at his necklace and attempted to enter his speed state. It worked thankfully, but it felt different then normal magic used to.
Samuel got out of his speed state and looked at Sylvan, “Yes, but it’s different then it used to be.”
Sylvan sighed, “Alright, so your first task is finding out what’s wrong with your magic. We will help in any way we can.” Sylvan looked at his watch, “Bonus, we're going to be at school in three minutes, so you’ll have all the time you need.”
Samuel smiled, “Thank you.”
Sylvan smiled back, “Your welcome.”
When the train stopped they were at some sort of intersection, with multiple other trains and people. It looked like other students, and they already had their robes on. Sylvan got off the train, with Samuel and Jackson following close behind. Everyone was crowded around the platform that brought people up, which Samuel thought was probably the school. Sylvan brought them closer to the platform only to be stopped by the crowd of parents in the way.
“There's nowhere to go around, and we need to get you two up there.” Sylvan was acting like any one of the adults around here, and it was funny.
Samuel grabbed Sylvan and Jackson’s hand’s, and boosted them to the platform.
Sylvan looked shocked, “I’m never going to get used to that.” Samuel laughed as the platform began to rise.
Samuel looked at the other students to see they were all staring at him, and that most of them were whispering to each other.
Samuel then turned to Sylvan, “Why do they look like they know who I am?”
Sylvan smiled at Samuel, “Because everyone knows who Samuel Knight is, ‘The Last Knight’”
People knew who Samuel was, would this affect him in school? Will him and Jackson be picked on again? While Samuel was thinking of this the platform stopped to show a large area that Samuel could only think could be a Magical School.
It was just how Samuel remembered it: the walkway with trees, and made of perfect stone. He couldn’t wait to see what it would be like to learn magic from true professionals. No offense to his magic friends. As Samuel Jackson and Sylvan walked towards the school Samuel wondered where this library Sylvan was talking about was.
“Hey Sylvan, where is the library? I want to get started right away.” Samuel said.
Sylvan chuckled, “I meant after you unpack. Come on, I'll take you to your rooms, I made sure you two were in the same room. Eric and Charles will also be rooming with you two.”
Samuel got really excited at that, they were going to be able to see their old friends from last year! And they will be staying in the same room as each other.
Sylvan led them through the school into the dormitory wing, where they found their room.
“Knock Knock, old friends are at the door!” Sylvan said into the room,
The door opened immediately, and out came Charles. He came running into Samuel and Jackson, hugging them as he did so.
“It’s so good to see you two again!” He yelled. Sylvan was able to get them all into the room of four.
“I hope you all will be ok being roommates.” Sylvan said
Eric came from around the corner, “Of course we will we’re best friends.” Eric came over to Samuel and lightly punched him in the shoulder, “You ready for your first time in magic school?”
“You bet!” Samuel said back.
For the next hour they all got themselves packed away in their new dorm, Eric and Charles had also gotten them their robes and books as well.
Eric looked at Samuel, “You know you can't tell anyone about you being a master mage right?”
Samuel looked down, “So two things, I guess everyone already knows because everyone was staring at me when coming here, and my magic is acting up anyway so ya.”
“What do you mean acting up?” Eric asked,
“Well you know how you're only supposed to be able to cast wand spells with a wand?”
“Ya”
Samuel opened his hand and casted his light spell, creating a small light floating in the room
Eric’s mouth hung open
Charles smiled, “Impressive.”
Samuel brought their attention to him again, “I need to figure out what's happening, and I could really use your expertise for this.”
“Don't even, it looks like I'm not the one who knows more about magic anymore. We’ll help, so we should probably be at the library right now.” Eric grabbed some of his books, “Are you coming or not?”
Samuel grabbed Tome and his wand, while Jackson grabbed his gauntlet and slingshot.
Sylvan rolled his eyes, “You nerds have fun, I got to go do work. See ya later.” Sylvan walked out of the room
Samuel turned to Charles, “You coming?”
“I’m good, I have an illusions class soon.” Charles said unpacking his school stuff
Eric shrugged, “If you say so.” Eric held out his arm and his emerald bat came and turned into a cloak around him. “Let's go!”
They all ran out of the room, Samuel and Jackson following Eric throughout the building.
