On that iron chair, next to the room where Ethan had lost the last person in his life, he sat silently, looking at the floor with an expressionless face. His mind was blank, as if the feeling in his chest refused to absorb the news of her departure. Hours and hours passed, and Ethan didn't move, as if time had stopped for him.
The silence was interrupted by the sound of the hospital guard saying in a sad tone:
"It's time for you to go, son."
Ethan slowly raised his eyes, got up from his seat without saying a word, and walked out of the hospital. As soon as he stepped outside, he was swallowed by the darkness of the night.
Elsewhere, inside an old abandoned warehouse, Evan, Zach, and Leon's sister were gathered. Evan cast a sideways glance as he spoke seriously:
"I think Ethan is a target now. We looked into his mother's death, and we confirmed that she didn't die of illness... She was killed by black snake venom, injected into her neck."
Zack quickly interrupted him:
"Wait... "But where is Leon?"
Evan replied calmly:
"He went to get Ethan. In moments like this, a person can push themselves to death."
In the empty subway station, where there was only silence and the sound of the approaching train's whistle, Ethan stood beside the rail, his head lowered to the ground. Everything was dull in his eyes, even the sound of the train getting louder and louder had no effect on him.
He took another step towards the tracks, only moments until the train was close enough...
A sudden scream interrupted the stillness of the station, followed by a quick movement!
Before he realized it, he found himself being carried on someone's back. A familiar voic whispered in his ear in a mocking tone:
"This isn't the end for you, buddy."
It was Leon.
Minutes later, a taxi pulled up in front of a huge villa. Leon got out, dragging Ethan's limp body with difficulty. Ethan was still expressionless, like a walking corpse, which made Leon's job of getting him to the villa easier.
Once inside, they went straight to an isolated room, which was very different from the rest of the mansion in its decor. Leon knocked on the door, and once it opened, he and Ethan quickly entered.
The place was spacious, full of wooden boxes. Ethan sat directly on the floor, still silent, his face not moving an inch.
Zach walked over to him, his features reflecting sadness and concern:
"Brother, come on, get up... You're not like that."
He was silent for a moment, then added in a weaker voice:
"Ethan... I don't want to see you collapse like this."
But before Ethan could respond, Leon's sister intervened, saying sharply:
"Stop it, he was about to end his life and he hasn't gotten his revenge yet."
She gave him a cold look, then continued in a low voice, but sharp as a sword:
"Ethan... Your mother didn't die naturally."
Everyone fell silent, the atmosphere turned tense.
"She was murdered."
The air trembled for a moment. Ethan remained still, before whispering in a barely audible voice:
"Who...?"
No one answered. The deadly silence was repeated.
But this time, Ethan raised his head and stared at them with fiery eyes. Then he said in an even louder voice, like the roar of a monster finally awakened from its slumber:
"Who is this piece of shit who did this?"
The girl smiled sideways and said, "I guess my brother wasn't lying when he described you as strong." Then she chuckled as Ethan's features remained still. "We've met before, but I didn't tell you my name... My name is Julia."
Before she could continue, Leon interrupted her, saying in a serious tone: "Okay, Julia, that's enough... It's time for him to know."
Everyone looked at each other as if sharing a silent understanding of what Leon meant. Ethan felt a strange tension run through his body, finally breaking his silence and saying hesitantly: "What do you mean?"
Without another word, Leon lifted his shirt, revealing a tattoo adorning his arm, and the others followed suit, each revealing a different tattoo that gradually glowed, spreading a soft light in the room.
Ethan opened his mouth in surprise, stuttering: "H... How's that?"
Leon replied with a proud smile: "I have the powerful griffin tattoo, it's my companion in everything."
Zack interrupted excitedly: "But not as powerful as my black dragon tattoo!"
Evan calmly interjected, looking at them both sharply: "You both rely solely on strength... The wyvern tattoo is different, it symbolizes intelligence, and true strength is intelligence."
As the three argued about their tattoos, Julia approached Ethan, who was still sitting on the floor in amazement, and said quietly: "I'll tell you what... my tattoo is Ishtar, Queen of the Desert." Then she chuckled and added: "Isn't that wonderful?"
Before Ethan could take it all in, Leon cut the air with a voice full of determination and enthusiasm:
"Ethan... Would you be honored to become the fourth Golden Leviathan?"
