Werewolf of the Moonlight Bar

Chapter Five

Chapter Five

Apr 03, 2025

A few hours later I pull up to my mom's house the porch light on and the sound of her rocking chair squeaking in the low light. Stepping out of the truck I walk up towards the door, stopping only when it appears no ones in the chair. Confused I grasp the doorknob turning it slowly it clicks open with ease.

"Ma?" I question pushing the door open. Finding the interior eerily quiet as I walked through the living room filled with pictures of each achievement each of my family had done to make her proud. Lil with her a bright smile in front of a Police Force Academy, Newton with his first-place science fair trophy, and last but not least me on my wedding day two hours before disaster struck. I sigh continuing from the living room and into the kitchen finding Lil leaned against the island counter her back to me.

"Ma's out with the council." She says as I walk passed her. "Something about a disruption." She continues sipping her mug the smell of liquor evident from within.

"How long?" I ask standing in front of her, her brown hair tied in a high ponytail as she looks passed the rim of the mug.

"About an hour now. Whatcha got?" She questions eyeing me for a second before smirking. "What trouble you got yourself into big brother?"

"Ghouls." I respond calmly taking my phone out and sliding it over. She unlocks it with ease before going to my photos. "Or I believe so, I was going to see if maybe Ma could get a better look at them."

"I think your right on the Ghoul department." Lil responds glaring at my phone screen.

"You think so?" I questioned back leaning against the countertop. Lil nod turning my phone screen back around so that I could see it.

"You see how the supposed fangs puncture straight, the rest of the teeth are jagged and uneven, you got yourself a very hungry Ghoul if this is how the marked looked." She explains before handing me back my phone. "Has anyone else been bitten?"

"Not that I know of." I respond pocketing my phone. "But I found out something interesting." I smirk as Lil raises a brow sipping at her mug. "Jane's sister married a Baron Vamp."

"Wait seriously?" I thought that girl was crazy but not that crazy. "How long now?"

"From what I could tell from the file I skimmed a long time. They have a few kids apparently."

"So, a Magic wielder and a Baron Vampire... must be one weird family get together..." Lil pauses for a second before chuckling. "And I thought our family get togethers were awkward."

Shaking my head an incoherent groggy mumble comes from the kitchen entry. Looking up Newton shuffles in dark bags under his eyes and his clothes disheveled.

"Fun night baby bro?" Lil smirks and Newton shuffles over to her burying his face in her shoulder.

"You both are really loud..." He mumbles rubbing his eyes.

"Sorry little Newt." I sigh "We will try to keep it down okay go back to bed you got school in the morning." Newton groans as he shuffles away.

"Don't remind me!" He finally says as he disappears upstairs.

"We can't get him involved..." Lil says after a long pause. "He can barely shift anymore..."

I nod a weight making itself comfy on my shoulders as the back good opened and in a bathrobe and slippers our mother enters. A look of surprise crosses her face before a soft smile.

"And what do I owe a visit of all my children." She smiles walking over to the fridge.

"Ma, we have a problem." I say taking my phone back out, but she stops me her hand gently on my own.

"I know." She sighs "Ghouls have entered out woods."

"Ghouls only mean one thing Ma. A Baron and with what Mac just dug up we got cause to go see Jane's immediate family."

"Jane? The sweet girl that works the hospitals morgue?" She asks tilting her head slightly.

"Yes, her sister more accurately. She married to a Baron apparently." Lil shrugs.

"And do we have a name on this Baron?"

"Pendragon." I answer leaning against the counter.

"That sounds awful familiar." Giving me a once over she pushes off the counter. "You sure it was Pendragon?"

"Yes Ma." With that she heads upstairs, we quickly follow behind her confusion written all over my face. "Ma?"

"I only know of one Pendragon, and he lived for thousands of years, he has one son and daughter with a young woman by the name of Elizabeth. I had heard that his son married but I never went due to the timing." She explains as she grabs a key from the hall dresser and steps over to father's study her hands shaking slightly as she's unlocking the door.

Stepping inside the smell of mildew and dust hits out noses.

"Fucking hell!" Lil jumps as she sneezes into her arm a few times. "Damn allergies..." She grumbles once calmed down.

    "Let me see if..."

Stepping into the room I look at all of my father's old things, untouched, covered in thick layers of dust showing just how long anyone's been in here.

"Ah, there it is." My mothers voice came from behind the desk as she stood up taking out an old box and opening it. Fingers gliding over worn stained cards. "Pendragon, Pendragon... Ah here we go." She pulls a small card from the pile a smile on her face. "Jefferson and Elizabeth Pendragon." Pocketing the card into her bathrobe she puts the box back before heading out the door.

"Ma? What are you going to do?" I ask as we close the door and head downstairs.

"I am going to call them." She retorts grabbing her phone off the wall. "Now be quiet."

Lil mimes zipping her lip as I nod and take a seat in the living room. After a long minute my mothers voice comes through sweet as jam.

"Hello Jefferson, It's Edith, Ross' wife I was wondering about your son or daughter havre either of them gotten married by any chance?"

I couldn't hear what was said but the rapid nodding from Lil doesn't give far to the imagination.

"First of all, congrats, second of all by any chance had he moved into your old manor? Yes. Okay, thank you." With that she hangs up the phone. "You know sometimes I hate it when my children are right." She chuckles rounding into the kitchen. "Jefferson son Alexander married one Elinor Farewell about 30 years ago. They have two sons and a daughter. Maxwell, Alana, and an Oliver."

I freeze looking at my mother. "Wait, repeat the last name please."

Giving me a confused look she repeats the name. "Something wrong Mac?"

"It's a long shot... but I think I've meet Oliver."

"Well don't that make things easy." Lil retorts with a smirk on her face. "Let's go see if he shows up at your bar."

"Lil stay with Ma I'll let you know what he says... I got to ask him alone."

"You sure?" She asks confused and I nod getting up.

"I'll be back later." With that I leave the house taking the wood path to clear my mind. "It's got to be some coincidence... it got to be..."
