both the sky and water become one in me

freedom

freedom

Apr 04, 2025

To become something you’re not, is it possible?
To live as something you’ve never been, is it possible?
To die as something you’ve turned out to be, is it possible?

To Blue, it is.

To Blue it’s something that can be achieved easily with just a little bit of work, sweat, and tears.
To him, everything is possible, no matter what it might be.
To him, nothing seems impossible or unachievable.

The orb in its current state is ready to be let free.

Blue is scared to do so, however. He’s too scared to take that final step in the process and finally become that something he thought he would never be.

Maybe he should tell Veronica about everything first. Blue doesn’t want Veronica to disappear without a trace. In fact, he has other plans for her.

“Veronica?” Blue is knocking on Veronica’s door with the orb in his other hand.

It takes a bit for Veronica to open the door for Blue, but when she does, her gaze immediately drops down to the orb. “What do you want?” she asks, crossing her arms.

“I just... wanted to tell you about my project! I realized I never fully explained to you what it is, and-”

“I know what it is, Blue.”

Blue immediately stops talking and stares at Veronica blankly, his excitement now gone and replaced by a sense of dread. “...What?”

“I said, I know what it is,” Veronica sighs with a worried look on her face. “I’ve known for a while. You’re planning to become a God, aren’t you?”

Blue continues to stare at Veronica, now with a small hint of shock. “How did you-”

"Your notebook.” Veronica’s expression becomes even more worried. “I was afraid. I am afraid. I-” she sighs, “I don’t want you to do this, Blue. Do you realize what you’re risking here? You’re putting your whole life into something useless.”

Those words immediately snap something inside Blue. For Veronica to call something that he considers his own child offends him.

"...Useless? Useless?!" Blue feels baffled. "You don't know anything about my work! This-" he holds up the orb higher, "-isn't useless! It's my pride an joy, my only meaning in life, my..." he stops to breathe.

Veronica frowns, “Blue, I’ve never seen you in a worse state than this. You have purple bags under your eyes, your hair is all frizzy and messed up, you’re shaking, you... You’re not you, Blue.”

Blue furrows his brows, unbelieving of what Veronica is saying to him. “I’m not me? I’m very much me, thank you. I don’t look any different from what I was before. I do not have purple eyebags, I don’t have messed up hair, my hair is fine! I’m not shaking because of the work I’ve done, I’m shaking from anger because of you! I am me.” Blue breathes a little heavier than earlier. “You’re the one who’s changed. You never check up on me anymore, even though you think I’m in a bad state of mind. What’s up with that? If I truly was in a bad state, why haven’t you come and checked up on me?!”

"I’ve checked up on you multiple times, but you never responded to my worries. It’s almost as if you never even realized I was there, in your workroom, trying to get your attention. You’ve disconnected yourself from reality, Blue. Wake up.”

“You were never there for me! You left me alone in times of need as you were stuck in your own little world. You never, ever cared.”

“Blue, I need you to realize what you’re doing to yourself. Who you are right now. You’re not the Blue I used to know, you’re someone else completely. Someone very different from the real Blue. It's like that little orb of yours has taken away something important from you. Please, regain your senses and come back.”

At this point, Veronica wants to leave. To step back inside her room and slam the door closed, but something tells her that she shouldn’t. Something tells her that there’s something about to happen. Something bad.

Blue takes a step towards Veronica. “You don’t know me at all. Stop saying I’m not me!” His grip on the orb is becoming tighter and tighter.

Then, a crack.

Both Blue and Veronica immediately look at the orb as Blue gasps. “Look at what happened! This is your fault!” He shouts.

“You were the one who was gripping it so tightly!” Veronica shouts back at equal volume.

“Oh, so everything in the world is my fault now, is it? Everything! I might as well just shatter this orb right now since it’s already on the verge of breaking and becoming its true self!”

Veronica’s expression drops. “...Blue, what do you mean, 'its true self’?”

“Oh, so you don’t actually know anything about the process, do you? You only knew that I wanted to become a God. Nothing else. As expected from you, Vee.”

Blue grins. “I’ll tell you a little secret. The second this orb breaks completely, we’ll be gone,” he giggles, “We’ll be nothing but dust afterwards. Unless...”

Blue gently traces the crack on the orb with his finger. “I have a little plan just for you, Veronica. I want you to become a part of my world, a part of my fantasy, a part of what will become the most fantastic world ever created.”

“Blue, what do you-”

“Veronica, dear...” Blue steps closer, closing the small distance between them, only the orb in between the two of them preventing their bodies from touching. "You do know what becoming a God entails, yes? I'll not only become otherwordly, much more than I already am, but I’ll also be able to control a world and create my own children into that world,” he giggles softly.

“Doesn’t that sound just great? Veronica, you know how badly I want my own children, my own family, my own... planet. I get everything I’ve ever wanted if I do this, Veronica!”

“What about... You said you want me to be a part of it. What does that mean? What do you mean by that?” Veronica questions.

Blue’s face lights up even more at the mention of this. “Oh! Right! Yes...” He takes a step back, thinking for a few seconds before walking over to the back of the spaceship, where a wide window makes view to a beautiful starry universe.

“Veronica, Veronica... Haven’t you ever wanted to be a part of a planet? Feel like a planet is ‘home’ to you? Haven’t you?”

Veronica furrows her brow, watching Blue’s movements closely, ready to act if something happens. “I suppose. Once or twice.”

“Only once or twice?” Blue glances at Veronica for a second before turning his gaze back to the stars in the universe. “Think more about it. You’ll get to belong somewhere, finally free from the endless floating in the same few universes, observing the same exact things every day that you’ve seen and observed countless times before... for what? Research that other species will use to do much more than we could ever do. What about something new for you? Something exciting? New places to see, new people to meet, and it’ll all be created by me, your best friend! Don’t tell me the idea doesn’t intrigue you, Vee.”

Veronica can’t deny that the idea doesn’t intrigue her just a little bit. Most of her is extremely hesitant and scared, though. She doesn’t want to risk anything bad from happening, and besides...

“But I’ll lose you.”

This catches Blue off guard. He almost drops the orb completely due to that simple sentence that he hadn’t thought of before. He stares into the universe with more hesitance than ever. "But... I'll be there, watching over the world, watching over everyone. Including you, Veronica. I- I won't be gone completely."

"I won’t be able to talk to you.”

Blue gulps.

“I won’t be able to see you.”

Blue looks down at the orb.

“I won’t be able to spend time with you as I have been for the past... who knows how long! Blue, our current lives will shatter. Many of the people you create for that new planet, they probably won’t even know or believe that you exist. Right now, there’s people who actually know you exist.”

“You’ll still know I exist, and that’s enough for me.”

Veronica frowns, stepping closer. “So you don’t care about any of the other things I mentioned? What about the life we planned together? The life before you started- I don’t know, going crazy?”

“Do not say that about me. I haven’t gone crazy.”

Veronica scoffs. “You clearly have! Look at yourself, Blue. You need to come to your senses and realize just how crazy this whole idea is! And it’s all because of some article you saw.”

“It wasn’t just ‘some’ article, Veronica.”

“Oh, then please, tell me, what article was it if not just some random article you found while doing your daily scrolls on the screen?”

Blue looks at Veronica with a serious expression. More serious than he’s looked during this whole conversation. “The article... Your father wrote it.”

Veronica almost falls back from shock. “...What?”

Blue looks back at the orb. “I didn’t want to say anything, especially not now, because you’d start blaming him for everything. I didn’t realize until later, either. The day I found that whole thing, I didn’t even bother looking at who wrote it. But at some point, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t following some random alien's recipe for disaster."

He turns back to Veronica. “The reason why I’ve been so adamant on going through with this is because it was written by your father, Vee. You yourself know just how intelligent he was, and how much respect he earned through his work.”

“You’re lying,” is all Veronica can say at that point.

“Veronica, do you ever wonder where your father went? Or have you just accepted the possibility of him being too busy with work to not care about his own daughter? That your mother left because her husband didn’t have enough time for her either? No, that’s not it, is it?”

"Stop."

“Veronica, your father is a God. Why else do you think he wrote this article? Why else would such a renowned scientist publish something like this for people to see? Would he just spread lies about something this serious? Would he put those extra warnings into that article just because?”

"Stop.”

“Veronica! Your father isn’t physically here anymore! He’s become a God, a-”

“Stop!” Veronica screams, finally snapping. “You’re lying, you’re wrong, you-” Tears threaten to spill down her face, too distressed to keep them in. “You don’t know my father at all! You don’t know him! He wouldn’t just- He wouldn’t just abandon all of his work and do something so..."

“That’s what you want to believe. But the truth is that he’s been gone, been a God, for a long time now,” Blue says, stepping closer to Veronica. “You can’t deny it when the proof is right there in that article. It’s like a documentation of his last moments as an ordinary alien. Isn’t that beautiful? I would've never thought of doing something like that.”

Veronica stares at Blue with a conflicted stare. On one hand, she wants to believe that her father is just busy doing what he did for a long time. Studies, research, work, work, work... But on the other hand, the things that Blue is saying make sense. They make too much sense, and it hurts Veronica to hear something like that.

At that point, Blue has already come so close to Veronica that he’s able to place his empty hand on her shoulder. “Veronica."

He holds the orb closer to her body, right where her heart is. “You know you can’t stop me from doing this in the end. You may be able to prolong the inevitable, but you’ll never fully stop me. I want to do this. I’ve wanted to do this. Please, Veronica, the least you can do right now is allow your soul to escape into my world.”

“Blue...” Veronica frowns, looking up at her best friend.

“It’s for your own good. Wouldn’t you rather live in my world instead of long for my presence for the rest of your eternal life you’ll live alone in this spaceship, doing the same things you’ve been doing?”

Veronica looks down at the ground, then at the orb.

“Veronica, please.”

“...What do I have to do? To allow myself to be part of your world, I mean.”

Blue’s eyes widen slightly, before they soften again. “Touch the orb with me.”

Veronica reaches her hand out to touch the top of the orb with her palm, feeling a tingling sensation immediately take over her whole body.

“Thank you. Do you trust me?” Blue asks gently, looking into Veronica’s eye.

“I...” Veronica hesitates for a long moment before meeting Blue’s gaze with her own. Blue’s expression is so fond, so loving, so careful. It’s hard to say no in that moment if Veronica didn’t trust him. But truth is, she trusts him wholeheartedly, without any doubt.

“...I trust you.”

Blue smiles, closing his eyes in relief.

Then, Blue takes a big step back, raising the orb high up above his head, and in a fast motion, slams it down onto the floor. The orb shatters and lets out a strong gust of wind that lingers in the room near the two. Veronica’s eyes widen in shock, but when she looks up at Blue to gauge his reaction, she realizes he’s crying.

The wind only becomes stronger, the room feeling like it’s being swallowed up by a tornado. Veronica furrows her brow, frowning. “Blue, you...”

“Thank you,” Blue says quietly. He opens his eyes and smiles at Veronica. “You’ve been a great companion. If I can, I’ll meet your father and tell him all about how you’re doing. And if I’m able to, I’ll...” He looks down at the shattered orb. “I’ll try to give you a message about how he’s doing.”

“Blue-”

Blue steps over the shattered orb and hugs Veronica tightly, tighter than ever before. He sniffles. “I want you to remember me, forever, no matter what happens. Think of me as a good friend, even though I've been an awful one these past weeks."

Veronica lets her arms wrap around Blue’s trembling body, holding him tightly in return. “I will,” she says, still in quite the shock over how that day had ended up. The realization of all of it eventually catches up and she starts tearing up as well.

“Blue...” Veronica’s voice is shaky as she starts saying her last words to Blue. “I don’t want to lose you.”

“You won’t. I promise, you won’t. I’ll always be watching over you, Veronica.” Blue lets go of the hug slightly, before placing his hands on Veronica's cheeks and kissing her with everything he has. Every bit of love and affection he's wanted to show Veronica, he's putting all of it into this first and last kiss. Veronica melts into the kiss as her tears spill down her face, over Blue's hands on her cheeks. Blue eventually lets go of the kiss and frowns once he sees Veronica's teary expression.

"Please don't cry, Vee."

“How can I not?” Veronica sniffles, letting out a soft sob. “I’ll miss you so much...”

“I know,” Blue whispers, leaning in to plant a small kiss on her head. “I know.”

“Will I ever see you again...?” Veronica frowns. “Please tell me I will.”

“...I don’t know. Maybe we’ll cross paths again. Maybe we won’t,” Blue speaks quietly, almost in a whisper next to Veronica's ear. “All I know is that it’s time for us to go.”

Those words stab Veronica in the heart. “Please hug me tighter...”

“If you so wish.”

...

The answers that once were left unanswered, Blue now knows the answers to.

To make something so out of this world, is it possible? Would you be able to produce something that impacted not only the world you live in, but the space that surrounds it? To come up with an idea so extreme, to even think about an idea so extreme, to try and execute and idea so extreme...

It's possible.
