Werewolf of the Moonlight Bar

Chapter Ten

Chapter Ten

Apr 09, 2025

Groggily I open my eyes heading thumping as I stagger upright, leaning against the harsh what seemed to be stone face I blink slowly until a hand grasps my arm.

    'Ma— '

I jolt back hitting my head against the wall with a loud thud.

"Fuck!" I groan grasping my head. The hand quickly grabs my face.

'Don't do that you bumbling werewolf!'

"Oliver?" I question letting my eyes adjust for a second before two light red eyes meet mine. "What? Where are we?"

'I don't know I just woke up about ten minutes ago to the sound of screaming. Are you okay?'

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine a killer headache but nothing a good whisky can't fix."

A soft smile graces his face and dammit why does it make my heart do flips. I'm mentally cursing myself as Oliver releases my hand and gets to his feet. Following suit, we look around the makeshift cell for a while before two men step into the room both clad in hunter gear, we are yanked from the room and out into a hallway. Immediately something cold clamps around my neck. Growling I reach forward to grasp the nearest one only to be shot back against the wall by an invisible force.

"You really thought you could win with that? You Mercer's really have lost your edge." An older man stepped out a sly crooked smile on his face. "We have a kid that can't shift, a woman with commitment issues, and a wolf way passed his prime." He laughed striding closer his hand grasping the metal collar. "Whatcha think about that?"

Releasing the collar, he turns his head to Oliver looking him up and down slowly before giving him a questionable look.

"And what are you? Hanging around an old wolf like this?"

Oliver doesn't respond his eyes are no longer red now taking on a soft greenish blue hue. Whatever invisible force that had been holding me suddenly vanishes dropping me back to the floor.

"What do you want from us." I growl voice low as the man steps closer using the but of his gun to tap the side of my face.

"Well first let's start off with the land you disgusting dogs have been using. Where are the deeds?"

"The deed to my bar ain't with me sadly, and the deed to my ma's house ain't really in my memory." I smirk

"Oh, you think you a smart-ass wolf."

"Positively but hey you should know this, Maverick."

His smile falters for a second before quickly returning with the shake of his head.

"How did you guess?" He asks as his features seemed to twist and mold from an older man to a younger one, no older than myself.

"Scents don't lie." I snap back.

"And I thought I hid it pretty damn well."

"Told you, you can't teach an old dog new tricks." A familiar voice bounces off the walls. Turning my head, I can't help but laugh.

"I should have known you would have something to do with this."

"Oh, and what gave me away?" Iris stepped out her heels click concessively against the stone floor as she walks up to Maverick and plants a kiss on his cheek.

"The sudden appearance didn't help your case." I answered. "You've always been this way even when we were married."

Iris rolls her eyes before walking over to me her fingers grasping the collar she pulls me down a bit.

"You have no idea who I am Macintosh." She sneers pushing my head back before something like guilt hits her eyes before hardening into her usual stoic behavior and turning around. "Have fun with them darling." She smiles a sickening sweet sharp toothed grin as she walks back the way she came.

Maverick nods as hunters get on either side of us and we are led down the hall towards a set of spiral stairs where at the end sat an elevator. Oliver and I are shoved inside and as soon as it closes, he moves his hands gliding them over the metal.

"What are you doing?" I watch him as his face contorts a soft tingle of magic dancing around my neck for a few seconds. Unlike the magic that forced me against the wall earlier this magic is gentle more controlled. "Oliver."

He lifts a hand silencing me with a finger to my lips before returning his attention back to the collar.

The elevator continues its decent for what felt like forever before the doors opened and we are meet with a dark hallway. A soft click sounds above us before Maverick's voice comes through gargled by the speaker.

"Step down the hall." Maverick's voice was commanding as I get up keeping Oliver behind me.

    "Whatever happens, stay behind me."

Oliver nods sticking close as we walk down the hall the hairs on my arms on edge as goosebumps rack my body followed closely by a sharp shiver. Reaching the door, I slowly open it to find another open hallway this one lined with cages on either side looking back and forth cages go as far as my eyes could see.

Stepping into the hall a low distorted growl rips through the air. Making me freeze keeping my head on a swivel a familiar dense air hits my shoulders.

"Oliver get back in the elevator." I slowly push him back through the door as a large claw hand reaches from down the hall black smog drooling into the air.

A long-jagged blood-stained toothed maw slides into view wild eyes shifting unnervingly under soggy mane. The eye shifts slowly before snapping into place staring straight at me. Its head turned to face me tilting slightly showing off the other half of its face a skull wrapped in haggard flesh hung but connected to the reptilian maw that continued to drool dark smog into the hallway.

    'What is that thing?!'

Olivers voice broke my trance as I slowly slide back and into the hallway the elevator's light dull and eerie.

"I don't know..." I finally say looking away for only a second before hands gripped my shirt pulling me off balance as a rush of wind snapped passed me.

    'RUN!'
