Chapter 5

Samuel ran back to the study corner he was before, and walked over to the five circles that Diya had been looking at. One of the runes was exactly the same thing that the other rune looked like. He slowly walked towards it.

‘Diya.’ Samuel thought

Diya appeared, ‘Samuel, no! This could change everything!’

Samuel looked over at Diya, ‘I need to know.’ Samuel looked at the shapes, and touched the wall.

Immediately Samuel began to speak something he couldn’t stop saying, it was complete nonsense. “Wrtep mowloca nte nipsa nte niswpte.” Samuel let go of the wall, for an instant nothing happened. Then the wall started to crack and rumble. The bricks slowly folded into each other, making no sense. Opening into a dark hallway, Samuel felt this new magic coming from inside. ‘What is this Diya?’ Samuel asked.

‘The truth.’ Diya thought.

After Samuel got all of his friends to the library telling them he found a way to change his magic, he was standing with them in the study corner.

“So what’s up Sam? You got us all here because you said you found something big.” Eric said.

Samuel had only gotten Eric, Jackson, Carlene, and Charles. Being his closest friends, he hoped they would listen to him. “Well I did, but I haven't actually gone into it yet. I needed all of you guys to help me out. I found a secret tunnel, and I think it’s a clue to what's going on with me.”

They all looked at eachother, then at Samuel. Jackson walked up to Samuel.

“Let’s go.” He said,

Then Eric came up next to Jackson, “Ready.”

Then Charles, “Let’s do it, but it better be quick.”

Carlene came next to Charles, “Let’s have some fun!”

Samuel nodded, and walked over to the symbols. He put his hands on them, and started to speak. “Wrtep mowloca nte nipsa nte niswpte.” The wall opened as it had done before, and Samuel walked in and turned around to look at his friends. Seeing their mouths hanging open, “This is what I wanted to show you, I don't know where it leads and I need your help just in case there's something bad down there.”

Carlene, who Samuel hadn’t seen once since he’d gotten to school, came in front, “It’s like wherever we go there’s always something secret and weird.” Everyone nodded in unison.

Everyone started to walk down the stairs, and it got dark quickly. Especially when the door behind you closes, there was a large bang then everything went completely pitch black.

“Anyone have a light spell?” Samuel assumed was Jackson,

Samuel naturally cast a light spell, realizing Carlene hadn’t known about his new ability.

“What was that!?” Carlene yelled.

“Sorry I forgot to tell you about… this.” Samuel said, and continued walking down the stairs.

Eric also casted a light spell, “So what exactly are we looking for?”

Samuel turned his head around and shrugged.

“Great, we’re in the dark, we don't know what or where we're going to. I think this is starting to sound like one of our adventures.” Eric complained.

Samuel Ignored him as they walked into a room, just as dark as the stairway. Samuel felt the power of magic everywhere in this room, and it seemed his magic felt the same as his light spell flew up onto the ceiling of the room. The one spell lit the entire room up, Samuel saw chalkboards, desks, books, and papers everywhere. This seemed like some kind of secret study room, and it was filled to the brim with books.

‘Diya, do you know this place?’

Diya appeared for everyone to see, and everyone jumped in surprise. ‘Yes, I know this place very well.’

Samuel gasped, “What is this place? It's… amazing.”

Diya turned to everyone, ‘Hello, everyone.’ Everyone jumped back except for Samuel. ‘Welcome to the Knight’s Study. I am Diya as some of you know, and yes I'm talking through your head. This place holds all the knowledge Tome does before he was created.’ Tome floated off Samuel's side into the air next to Diya. Diya looked at Samuel sadly, and Samuel swore there was a tear in her eye. ‘I’m so sorry Samuel, these were our instructions. I am the spirit and Tome is the body. I’ll miss you Samuel, my son.’ Diya disappeared, and Tome closed his eyes, and fell to the floor.

Jackson looked at Samuel, “What the heck just happened?”
Samuel ran over to Tome, and tapped on his cover. “You in there buddy?” Samuel asked,

“Of course I'm here Samuel, I'm right behind you.” Said a new voice, Samuel turned around to see a glowing man standing on the ground.

Samuel squinted his eyes, “Tome?”

The spirit laughed, “Of course it’s Tome, who else would it be? But I prefer to be called Monah”

“What happened to Diya?” Samuel asked.

“She’s still here,” Monah pointed to his chest, “Just different.”

Mohan looked over at his friends, “it’s a pleasure to finally meet all of you. Jackson I knew pretty well. Eric, loyal friend. Charles, supportive and enthusiastic. Carlene, strong and smart.” Mohan turned to Samuel, “Welcome to magic, Samuel.”

“What do you mean?” Samuel asked,

Mohan nodded, “It’s time for a story, I think it was put into those words right? Long ago The Great Knight put all of his knowledge into a book. And created a spirit, Diya, and me Mohan. He gave us strict instructions for what we needed to do, and that he would set everything in motion. He created the Knight’s coven in hopes they would help you, and serve you. Obviously you know this turned out to be a severe mistake. Then he gave the key, Diya, to a human in the human realm. He gave it to his great granddaughter, and said to give it to the next knight. Which she did. He then hid all of his work, all that he’d discovered into this study. So you would find it, he knew who you were and what you would do. He is your great-great-great-great-great grandfather.”

After what Mohan had said Samuel couldn’t speak he looked to his friends to see they too were speechless.

He looked back at To- he meant Mohan to continue listening, “So now I'm here to help, and I can first help with you mastering Knight Magic.”

Samuel wrapped his head around this quickly, but everyone else was speechless. “Ok, does this magic work?” Samuel asked

Mohan looked impressed, “Good question. Your, let's call him your grandpa, made his magic around a two part system. The Element and the Attack he called it, and these determine the type of spell you would be casting. Like that blast spell you can do, that's called a star blast. Very advanced for a young master mage, like yourself. That spell is created with the element of starfall magic, and putting it into a projectile attack. Same goes for your other spells, Group shield is water and defense, create light is light and summoning. So on and so forth.”

Samuel started to understand the nonsense that Mohan was saying, “Ok that makes sense, can you teach me all of these?”

“Those and more!” Mohan exclaimed.

Samuel smiled, “Let’s start.”

“Perfect!” Mohan said.

“Hey Samuel,” Samuel looked back to see Eric, “We got to get to class, but we’ll check in on all of this.” Samuel nodded as his friends left the study.

“Hey, can I stay?” Jackson said, “I want to know what this new magic’s all about.”

“Of course!” Mohan said, “Now let’s start with the basics.”

Mohan had set up a chalkboard, and Samuel found out that Mohan could touch things.

“Alright, you already know about the whole element and attack thing so i’ll get to something more important. Mana. Whenever you use a spell you use mana to cast it, and that mana comes from the void’s energy. If you run out of mana, you pass out” Samuel was sitting on a chair just like Jackson was, and he was now scared of his new power.

“Wait what?” Samuel said,

“Well, whenever you use a spell you're using your own energy to pull power from the void to cast spells. So if you use enough of your energy you'll pass out. The amount of energy or mana a spell costs though depends on the element and attack mana ratio. Each element and attack give an amount of mana to a spell, and when you use the spell you're fusing the mana’s together. So it all depends on the spell. Right now you're a bit over half of your mana storage, your mana storage is exactly 100 right now and you can upgrade it even more than it is now though.”

“Ok so what about teaching me magic?” Samuel asked,

“Right we’ll be starting with the four basic elements Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. We’ll start with fire being the most useful over all of them. You already have fire bolt, try casting it.”

Samuel stood up and faced one of the empty chalkboards, and held out his hand firing a blast of fire. “Huh, I didn’t know I could do that.”

“And more!” Mohan said.

“Alright, what else can I do?”

For the rest of the free period he, Jackson, and Mohan start going through a bunch of Samuel’s spells and a bunch of new fire spells.
