Seventh Soul: True Dust

Chapter 5 - Ghost Frisk

Chapter 5 - Ghost Frisk

Apr 13, 2025

Doggo and Dogaressa just watched as Sans froze up. They glanced at each other, then at Dogamy - who looked back at them, seemingly just as confused. Then suddenly, he took a risk. Took this opportunity to try and escape. He reeled his leg forward and kicked Sans as hard as he could in the stomach.

"OoF!"
Sans stumbled backwards from the kick, leaving Dogamy with nothing but a small cut on his neck - nothing too serious. He quickly ran to his axe, weiding it once more. He and the other three dogs had no idea what was going on, but they were going to take full advantage. Wielding their weapons again, they felt this was their moment.

Sans quickly tried to balance himself back into a proper posture, moving still proving difficult, but possible - only barely. He was still in complete shock. Was that Frisk he just heard? How is that possible? Frisk was dead! He was hardly paying attention to his surroundings anymore, not even noticing the oncoming threat of the dogs charging at him - until suddenly it seemed like his body moved entirely on its own. Almost like an invisible force had shoved him…or rather - something else entirely had taken control of him, he found himself dodging to the side and into the snow - just barely evading Dogamy and Dogaressa’s axe swing.

The sudden shock of face-planting into the snow seemed to jolt him out of his frozen state, as he quickly spun himself around to see Doggo now lunging at him with his dual blades in full swing. Sans quickly threw out his hand, hurtling another volley of bones towards him - only to his surprise, they were different.

His bones were usually purple now, ever since he absorbed Frisks soul - but these bones…they were now bright red. And then, as soon as they were in proximity of Doggo, they exploded like a cluster bomb - shrapnel flying in all directions and leaving behind a huge cloud of red smoke.

Dogaressa and Dogamy were flung backwards by the shockwave of the explosion, crashing into the thick trunks of some distant trees and landing with a thud. Doggo’s swords clanked to the ground in a heap, Doggo himself nowhere to be seen. Dust slowly drifted downwards, mixing in with the falling snow.

Sans stared at the red dust cloud from the explosion. What the hell? What WAS that?! He didn't even know he could DO that! A soft chuckle escaped from Sans’s mouth. Then another. It gradually grew in volume until he was laughing like someone had just told him the funniest joke.

Then suddenly, he stopped. His smile slowly fading as he narrowed his eyes to peer into the smoke. He focused carefully into the haze as something started to form - the smoke shifted… moved… swirled a bit. A figure started to take shape, stepping out from the mist as the red fog appeared to latch onto it and form into…someone familiar…

Sans stood up - instantly on the defensive at first, thinking it might be some new assailant…but as soon as the figure came into focus, the smoke starting to finally disperse, condensing into the shape, Sans’ defenses dropped at once.

“H…How?”
Sans was breathless, completely stunned. The shape that formed from the smoke…was Frisk.

The only time he ever saw her face to face was in the throne room that day. The day he found her dead. After he had killed everyone in that castle, he had gone to see her once more. To properly grieve without having an audience. Her hands were ice cold and her sweater looked as disheveled as her home had been - like she had been through some kind of struggle. He remembered one of her sleeves were cut near the elbow, a piece of her sweater barely even hanging on by a thread. He took it, ripped it off, and kept it tied to his belt. He didn’t forget her face. He wouldn’t forget it. This apparition…was definitely Frisk.

He took a tentative step forward towards the glowing red spirit in front of him. She was floating a couple inches off the ground, looking almost apprehensive - her red eyes filled with worry as she gazed at Sans.

“Sans…”
She spoke quietly, but Sans could hear it. It was definitely her voice. He would recognize that voice anywhere.

Sans stepped forward again, staring right at Frisk with a look of utter disbelief.
“You…you’re dead. How are you…here…?”

“...I’ve…I’ve always been here, Sans…Ever since…”
Frisk didn’t finish and rubbed her ghostly hands together nervously, her eyes drifting to the side to look at the last two dogs behind her slowly coming to and getting up from the ground at the base of the trees.
“...I just…haven’t been able to talk to you…until now…”

Sans understood. Her soul was within him, now, after all. Realization washed over him, dazing him for a moment - but then Sans’ eyes flickered to Dogamy and Dogaressa when Frisk glanced at them, snapping him out of his stupor. They were still alive. He could feel his anger begin to boil up again. He clenched his fists, narrowed his eyes, and started to take a step towards them - but Frisk suddenly appeared in front of him, holding her hands out towards his chest, a pleading look on her face.

“No, Sans! Please! Y-You don’t have to kill them! J-Just let them go…”
Frisk’s pale red hands rested on Sans’ chestplate - and if she could physically push him back, she probably would be trying right now.

Sans looked down at her hands, then up at her face. His brow furrowed, his jaw clenched.
“They…are the reason…you are dead.”
Sans spoke simply. Firmly. Angrily. Not taking his eyes off Frisks.

Frisk didn’t say anything. Her lip quivered and her arms went slack, slowly falling to her sides. She spoke meekly.
“...So many people…have already died…”

Sans grimaced, his eyebrow twitched, and a purple puff of purple smoke emitted from his left eye again.
“...Not enough.”
And with that, Sans simply stormed directly through Frisk’s ghost - causing her to disperse like a cloudy red mist - and towards the final two dogs who were wobbly clutching their hands onto the trunks of the trees to hold themselves up. They both slowly looked up at Sans as he approached, seeming disoriented, as Sans summoned a purple bone sickle in each hand.

He twirled the sickles around in his fingers as he stared at Dogamy and Dogaressa, a menacing grin spreading on his face once again, before he finally exacted his long overdue revenge on the two Royal Guard dogs that destroyed…everything.

Seventh Soul: True Dust is an alternate timeline of the novel series "Seventh Soul Dust", which is an alternate universe of the comic series "Seventh Soul." Yes...this runs deep lol. I have a problem.

In the Seventh Soul universe, everyone in the Underground has been drafted into the Royal Guard and turned into human hunting machines, including Sans. They are also sworn by oath to kill any human that enters the Underground. Sans, however, has a secret - a best friend who happens to be human and also the seventh and final soul needed to break the barrier. In the original universe, this ends up being a pretty big problem as Sans is working towards helping his human friend, Frisk, escape the Underground to the safety of the surface.

In the True Dust universe, things take a much darker turn for the worst. Shortly after Sans starts to kill everyone in a desperate attempt to save Frisk from being captured (including his own brother), Frisk is captured anyway - and killed before Sans can stop it. In an act of pure rage and grief, Sans ends up absorbing Frisk's soul and unleashes hell upon the Underground. This novel will basically be me obsessing over this character and it's lore by telling it's story since so many people seemed interested in it. Lawd help me.

Anyway, I highly, *highly* recommend reading the comic series this originates from first (Seventh Soul) AS WELL AS the Seventh Soul Dust novel, since this series will BEGIN from Chapter 2 of the Seventh Soul Dust novel. Otherwise, you may be pretty confused. I'll put a disclaimer in the first chapter about this.

Both series can be found here on Tapas!
