Chapter 15: Hanging by a Vine

Chapter 15: Hanging by a Vine

Apr 13, 2025

He tried to grab me but I moved away, knocking his hand out of the way.

“Stay away from me! I’m sure you can figure it out now, but Bryce and Jaye’sun are on the way right now, so if I was you, I would leave while you have the chance!” I shouted.

“Hehehe… you really think I didn’t notice you making a call, I WANTED BRYCE TO SHOW UP, I want him to see just how inferior he is to me! That I’m the right one for you, the ONLY ONE FOR YOU!”
This guy was truly deranged, why would he want them to show up? Did he think he could handle all 3 of us at once? If he’s been stalking us then he would certainly know we all had Deviations, so why? Even if he had some sort of martial arts training, he couldn’t possibly think he was equipped for that.

“So what’s your big plan to take on the 3 on the 3 us? There’s no way you could do that.” I said with confidence.

“3? They’ll only be you and Bryce. Any second now Jaye’sun should get a text from a number informing him that his mom has been spotted recently around South Shore Drive. Do you think he’ll give up that opportunity to find his mom?” he said.

Just how far has this creep thought ahead?

“Well sorry to break it to you, but you’re going down before they can make it here!”
I kicked at him, causing him to move backwards giving me enough time to get off my bed, and stand.

“So you wanna fight back… I really don’t want to have to hurt you my love. But I can’t have you trying to run off.”

He pulled a syringe from his pocket as he brandished it in his hand.

“This should do the trick just fine.” Jeremy said.

What could he have in there, probably some form of a sedative? That means for this fight I can’t let him land a hit on me, otherwise I’ll be done for. But he didn’t look too athletic so he shouldn’t be that hard to avoid.

“Wait! There’s no need for all this, we can just call Bryce back and say it was a misunderstanding, see I do like you!” I sputtered.

If I could get him to talk more, and waste time then It would give Bryce more time, and maybe I can learn more about Jeremy Deviation.

“Don’t you want me to know more?" Your Deviation? What makes you special?” I said, faking a smile.

“Oh Iris… my Iris, you want to know more about it! Well of course you can, you’ll have plenty of time to learn about me at my place, then we’ll be all alone! Just the two of us doesn’t that sound nice!”
He lunged at me, syringe in hand, I dodged to move out the way, but just then he vanished, into thin air he vanished in front of me. I turned my head to look for him, scanning to the room but he was gone. Just then I felt a needle stab, and push into my arm, as a shiver went up my spine.

Perspective Changes back to Jaye’sun

“WAS THAT IRIS, we gotta get going right now, it sounds like she’s in trouble!” I shouted.

“Yeah, we gotta go right now, she said her address out loud probably as a way for us to know where she lives, she’s only about 15 minutes away, I could use my Deviation and probably get us there pretty fast.” Bryce responded.

“Mhm, so let’s get going!” I said grabbing my jacket, and getting ready to headout the room, but just then Bryce received a text from an unknown number. It read “There’s been some recent discoveries about Jaye’sun’s mom, and her whereabouts, please meet at the redline on 35th for more information.”

“Dude someone says they have info on my mom, I can’t miss out on this, what if this is the big breakthrough I’ve been needing!” I said in a panic.

But then I took a second to think, I can’t possibly be in two spots at once, what could I do about Iris? I wanted to help her but it was also my mom's safety that could possibly be on the line.

“Jaye, you go check out what the number is talking about, it is kinda weird that you happen to get this message, when Iris is in trouble, but just in case it is real, you can’t miss this chance. If it turns out to be a fake lead, you know where to find me.” Bryce said with a smile.

“Now go get out here! Imma go check on Iris, you got this buddy.” we dapped each other up before leaving, and heading our separate ways.

“I hope Iris is okay, but I need my mom to be okay, I hope this is real, maybe mom coming back will finally make dad realize just how much has happened. I’m sure he’s just in shock, there’s no way he can’t care about what happened to her, I mean she’s the love of his life, what man can’t care about their wife’s disappearance.

Scene changes to Bryce as he rides on top of his cloud, making his way towards Iris’s house.

“Come on Iris just hold on for a little bit I’m on my way, I can’t let something else happen to one of the few people Jaye cares about.” Byrce said.

Scene cuts back to Iris house and pov.

“What was that! Where did he go?”

He couldn’t have left the room, he was able to stab me with this syringe, so he has to be here, but where. He’s for sure using his Deviation, but I don’t know how it works, it’s probably invisibility, so how can I deal with something I can’t see?

The flooring of the room creaked slightly behind me which caused me to turn, and step to the left.

“Look, I don’t know what type of Deviation you have, but even if I can’t see you I can clearly tell you’re still here!”

Just then he reappeared behind me, placing his cold long fingers around my neck.

“You know I’m so lonely… no one notices me, no one sees me, I know I’m a little odd, but that’s all. Don’t we all wanna fall in love? No one ever sees me no matter how hard I try, it’s like I’m invisible to them. You know what that’s like? Not even hated, not disliked, just simply not even a presence in their mind. My whole existence could be erased, and no one life would change one little bit…” Jeremy whispered in my ear.

“You feel it now don’t you, the drowsiness, see what I injected you with is a sedative known as Gammahydroxybutyrate. In just a few minutes you’ll feel sleepy and struggle with your motor function. But don’t worry my queen, the effects won’t last forever, just long enough for me to deal with that pesky friend of yours, and then we can get back to us…” he said with a chuckle.

I tried to manage to stay standing, but the effects of the sedatives were strong, and were starting to affect my senses. Just then the sound of glass shattering filled my ear, and Bryce came in rolling through the window.

“Am I late to the party?” Bryce said, getting in his fighting stance.

“Where’s your buddy Jaye’sun? I bet he’s out checking about his poor mom… I hope she’s doing okay.” Jeremy mocked.

“How do you know about that? He just received that message a few minutes ago.” Bryce responded.

“Hehehe… who do you think sent that message, OF COURSE SHE’S STILL MISSING! No one cares about some old hag going missing. You’re so stupid for even believing that was real, I only did it so I have to only deal with two of you.”

“What? Why would you do that, what has he ever done to you, let alone us.” Bryce said.

“Isn’t it obvious, you’re in my way! I want Iris all to myself, her beautiful skin, and personality, the way she makes me feel! I won’t allow myself to let this slip away! I won’t allow you to interfere!” Jeremy screamed.

Jeremy lunged at Bryce with the empty syringe attempting to slash him, but he easily dodged out the way.

“Pffff really? Look dude other than being creepy looking, you don’t seem to be good at anything else, so if you don’t mind, I’m just going to grab her an-”

Just like before he vanished, right into thin air in front of both our faces. Once again it must be the work of his Deviation, but what was it? Was it just invisibility or something else?

“Hey Iris! What do you know about his Deviation? I know you wouldn’t allow some bum like this to catch you off guard otherwise.” Bryce asked.

“I-I don’t k-know… he stabbed me with something in that Syringe though…. I don’t think he has a-another one but still be c-careful.” I said now on one knee.

Suddenly, a cut appeared on Bryce’s face.

“Where did that come from? It was right in front of me,how though?”

Jeremy reappeared right in front of Bryce, with a smile on his face spread ear to ear.

“Awww poor Bryce, it must be hard being perfect, never a day spent struggling in your life, loving parents, friends, girls, popularity everything I want!” Jeremy yelled.

Bryce threw a punch, hitting Jeremy in the face leaving a mark, and causing him to spit out blood,

“You’re such a coward! Blaming everyone but yourself for your issues, have you ever thought about why no one likes you?” Bryce responded.

Jeremy vanished again, before stabbing at Bryce hitting him multiple times, leaving multiple wounds covering his arm and chest.

“I won’t let you have to deal with all this by yourself… even if we can’t see him, he’s still here, I can keep track of him.” I said.

I used the vines from one of the plants in my room, to cover the floor allowing us to see where he steps.

Jeremy laughed more wildly than before.

“That won’t work! My Deviation is named blind-spot it allows me to always appear in the blind-spot of the last 2 people I made eye contact with. So it doesn’t matter what you do, you’ll never be able to see me!”

“I don’t know why you bothered telling me that because now I just need to-!” Bryce said before throwing another punch at Jeremy hitting him in the stomach knocking him to the ground.

Just then Bryce was slashed across the face, before being stabbed again in the back.

“Damnnit, I can’t even use my Deviation properly because I have no idea where he’s going to attack from.”

Bryce gets lifted into the air and pinned against the wall, as he starts choking and struggling to breathe.

“W-where did he c-come from…” He said while trying to breathe.

Jeremy made himself visible as he now held Bryce by his neck, with his syringe in the other hand.

“Once you’re gone all I have to deal with is that no name pesk. I mean, he’s a bottom feeder of society anyway, he’s nothing without you! Just some rat who pretends he’s any better than me! Does he think he deserves to hangout around a goddess like Iris! I can’t stand him, his face makes me just boil, he's a nobody like me, but yet he seems to always find something to be happy about… So I’ll solve both my problems at once, I’ll get Iris all to myself, and wipe that grin off his shitty face.”

Bryce was struggling from blood loss, and the sedatives have almost completely set into my bloodstream. It truly was over wasn’t it?

Perspective shift to Bryce

I’m so useless, I wanted to save Iris for Jaye’sun, I just don’t want anyone close to him getting hurt again, I hate seeing him cry, I know he tries to hide it but I know him. I’m sorry Jaye, I’ll just cause you more pain now, you were pretty much lured into a trap because of me…

 “I’m so sorry.. Ja-”
