Thunder
༺♱༻
Henry’s mum -Beatrice or Bea- came into the room and came over with a phone in her hand.
“Your mother wants to talk with you.” She said with a calming voice.
“Hello, Lara?”
“Hi. Yes it’s me mum”
“Good, hi, uhm, you need to stay over at Henry’s place until tomorrow. The thunder is too powerful right now. But don’t worry it’ll hopefully be over soon, kay?”
“Okay.”
“Bye sweetie, love you”
“Love you.”
“What did she say?” Henry asked after I hung up.
“I have to stay here until tomorrow” I said “Because of the thunder.”
“Oh okay.” Henry said “Aren’t you happy that you get to stay with me for the rest of the day?”
“Yes I am very happy but it’s just that, uhm, I don’t like sleeping other places than my home.”
“Oh. But at least you have me by your side.” He said, trying to calm me down which worked. I started to smile. I hugged Henry again and started to cry.
“Shhh it’s okay” Henry said to calm me down. I started to hug Henry tighter as I cried. Henry’s mum also came over to hug me and Henry. Henry’s mum said: “It’s gonna be okay, hun. You’re safe here.”
An hour later Henry’s mum came into the room with a mattress, blanket and pillow
for me.I walked over to my bag and took my favorite teddy and my book from the table.
I went down to the living room where Henry and his mum were. As I got to the living room there was a loud bang from the thunder. I was so surprised I almost fell. But I managed to keep my balance. The book that I was carrying fell on the floor right in front of me.
Henry came running towards me and helped me carry the book that fell. We walked over to the couch and Henry and I sat next to each other. I opened the book and started reading.
The endless scribblings on the blackboard made the afternoon far less enjoyable than the morning and Tilly was close to wishing she was back in her own classroom's drum room…
“Psst” Henry whispered while I was reading page 150.
I made a bookmark with the top right corner of the page. I looked up to see Henry looking concerned at me. “When do you
“Uhm I don’t know maybe tomorrow if the storm isn't over by then. But if it isn’t then i’ll have to stay which is nice -don’t get me wrong- but i kinda hope that it’ll be over by tomorrow” I said while holding my cry in. I could feel it in my throat that I was about to cry. Henry sat there looking at me sad but concerned about me.
I opened my mouth to say something but it just wouldn’t come out of my mouth. A tear shed down my cheek as soon as I closed my eyes and mouth.
“Are you okay?” Henry asked worri– edly.
“Yes, I'm fine” I said as my throat made my voice crack. There was a bit of awkward silence and Henry looked at me worried. I finally gave in and said: “Okay maybe I’m not okay” I said. I buried my face in my hands. Henry came over to where I'm sitting and hugged me tight. When I hugged him back I accidently pushed him down. And I nuzzled my head into his chest.
Everytime i heard a bang from the thunder I pressed tighter to the part where I was practically choking him. He started to cough.
“Okay, okay that’s a bit too tight” He pressed the words out as if they were his last words. I loosened my grip. He let out a relieved sigh.
The sun began to shine after a few hours of crying into Henry's chest. Finally, it’s over. Hopefully it’ll stay like this. I started to rise up as the sun was starting to shine. When I was sitting up in front of Henry I looked out of the window.
“Look!” I said as I saw a rainbow outside.
“Cool” Henry said with pearls in his eyes.
We both went over to the window after Henry got up. I began to slowly try to sit on the floor. Henry followed. He took his arm around me, and I put my head on his shoulder.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” Henry said as we watched the rainbow slowly fade. The sun started to come too. As we both sat there Henry’s mum came into the room. I could smell cookies. Beatrice’s chocolate chip cookies.
“Are you okay Lara?” Beatrice asked me with a worried look.
“Yeah I'm fine now. Thanks for asking though.” I answered. A broad smile appeared on her face. The same with Henry's face. Henry took his arm off me and stood up and stroked his hand for me to take.
“Shall we go have a cookie Princess?” He offered me, bowing.
“Of course.” I giggled. I took his hand and lifted myself up.
