I approached the receptionist to register myself as both a Guild Student and an Adventurer. The receptionist, a girl slightly older than me, appeared to be another student at the academy—her white hair, green eyes, and pale skin were striking, but it was her uniform that caught my attention. She wore a white collared shirt, a black vest with the guild emblem pinned to it, and a black skirt. At first, I assumed it was just a receptionist’s uniform, but as I looked around, I noticed nearly everyone here wore the same attire. That changed my perspective.
"Hello, how may I assist you?" she asked, her voice polite but neutral.
"Hello, I would like to register, please."
"I see. May I have your national card, please?"
"Yeah, give me a second."
I pulled the card from my back pocket and handed it to her. As she examined it, I saw her expression shift slightly—shocked at first, but she quickly composed herself. Of course, she would be surprised. After all, I was one of the few survivors of a noble family wiped out overnight. The only one left to ensure the legacy of the Brownstray name could continue.
She held my card in her left hand, placing her right palm gently on top of it. The moment her hand made contact, a soft glow radiated from the card, and a small magic circle appeared between her palm and my identification. After a few seconds, it vanished, leaving the air still again.
"Okay, you’ve been registered," she said, her voice taking on a more serious tone. "But first, I’d like to confirm a few things with you."
"Confirm?"
"Yes, just a few questions to make sure you're authentic and not impersonating someone."
Impersonating? Well, whatever. It didn’t really matter. I was ready for whatever questions she had.
"First, you have one magic affinity—Wind, am I right?"
"Yes, that's correct."
"Second, you're registering as a student in the Magic Knight class?"
"Yes, that's correct."
"Third, your name is Evan Brownstray, and you're currently fourteen?"
"Yes, that's correct."
Once I finished answering all her questions, she handed my card back to me with a smile.
"Okay, congrats! You're a student now. By the way, my name is Claris Treveil. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to find me."
"Thank you so much. So, what do I do now?" I asked, still uncertain about what lay ahead.
Claris explained everything I needed as a newcomer—my dorm, classes, and more. She told me I could use the Magic Scanner Ability on my card to view my timetable (and everything else). By focusing on my palm, a visual of my schedule would appear right in front of me.
Evan Brownstray IV was born into privilege, a young noble of the prestigious Brownstray lineage in the Kingdom of Nira. But one fateful evening, upon returning from his daily tuition, his life was irrevocably shattered. Within the once-untouchable halls of his family estate, he discovered the lifeless bodies of his parents—murdered by cloaked assailants whose faces remained hidden beneath black hoods. They vanished as swiftly as they came, leaving behind only a chilling message: his sister, Adore Brownstray, had been taken.
Now, with his title meaningless and his home reduced to a memory, Evan sets forth on a relentless pursuit—to rescue his sister and uncover the truth behind the forces that tore his world apart.
