Vampires are vampires

Chapter 10 - A Misadventure

Chapter 10 - A Misadventure

Apr 17, 2025

In just a split second, Varede was fully prepared for battle. Coupled with the previous traps over the chain of traps, the uncharacteristically athletic body could be seen that although he had spent a few years relaxing in the old fortress of Dekenhof. But the former chief operating officer of the Cosmic Federation had not aged. The stance has not retreated, but has improved.
  Just completely useless.
The guard was up for less than three seconds. Once Varede regained his normal vision and saw everything in the hall, he felt that he was just doing nothing before. Because there was absolutely no existence here that could threaten him. Or to be more accurate - there was once enough here to threaten.
No, I should say, enough existence to crush the current poorly conditioned, unaware brat into powder from head to toe - it turned out that there was indeed such a thing, just take a look at the gigantic statues spread out on both sides of the hall, numbering more than twenty horses.
The statues - demonic statues, to be precise - were each sculpted in the classic, ancient stone goblin mold.
They had humanoid, hunched bodies. Powerful lower limbs, and forelimbs that were too long in comparison to humans, with sharp, giant claws.
These statues are made of pure flint. It was all kinds of pro-magic winds, extremely strong, and extremely polished. It was excellent for both making sculptures and as building stone. Of course, if this kind of stone fell into the hands of someone who was capable and knew alchemy, as long as one used alchemy techniques to sculpt the statue and then incorporated some magic crystals into it, then it could become a perfect magic statue.
They were infinitely powerful, and were stronger than gold and iron. Moreover, because of their own material, their attacks belonged to the enchanted category. They would not suffer against any kind of defense. And also because of their material, their defense was also automatically judged to be of the enchanted type. No matter what kind of attack, it could effectively defend against it.
If one had to say that there was a drawback to these statues, it would be that their speed was slightly slower and their agility was poor. But in a narrow chamber and in an encircling layout. Such a design would make up for the flaws in speed and flexibility.
This was the perfect killing formation. With these twenty demonic statues sitting on the ground, it would be extremely difficult to break through even if there were a thousand armies. There was only one narrow door leading from the tunnel to this hall. It could be said to be a treacherous terrain that could not be opened by a single man. This means of defense was quite powerful, and it was still different from the previous organ trap yin man. This is the complete and utter yang conspiracy, completely relying on strength without playing any means ...... Of course there is no use in saying so much now.
Because, these seemingly majestic, indestructible magic statue monsters, has been completely broken. Although they looked unharmed from the outside, Varede could see clearly through his sorcerous vision. The tiny bit of trace, but most important magic crystals in their bodies had been damaged, part of it had been consumed, and the other part had reverted to the wind of magic and dissipated into the air. This was also the reason why Varede felt that the wind of magic was very dense in this room.
As for what these magic statues were damaged because of, Varede could mostly guess. As soon as he looked up, he could see at the top of the hall, the one that couldn't be more obvious, a crack. This crack was able to see directly into the sky through the rock layer. Looking down again, one could see that on the ground, there was also a crack of the same shape. The angle of the two cracks were connected in such a way that it just happened to coincide with the attack from before, the one where Varede had tried his best to attack the boundary.
It was this attack that not only drained the surrounding winds of magic, but also caused all of the magic crystal structures within the hall it passed through to collapse. From the inside, it turned these powerful-looking magic statues into a pile of broken stones.
After realizing the truth of the matter, Varede secretly sighed that there was a heavenly destiny in the underworld. If a genuine Archmage was called in, he would definitely have a ten times better way to break through the outer boundary than Varede. However, in that case, when that genuine Archmage arrived at this hall. It was impossible to say that he would have to die under the sharp claws of the demonic statue.
Yet in Varede's place, a fool who knew nothing, despite recklessly damaging the tomb itself. But by mistake, he also cracked the tomb owner's second line of defense. One couldn't help but sigh with emotion.
At the same time, Varede was also secretly excited, feeling that this time hadn't been in vain - not to mention the other burial objects and martyrs. These twenty well-made magic statues were enough for a return ticket. As long as these things were shipped out, and after that, they would use alchemy to dissolve some small particles of magic crystals into them, and then change the magic circuits of the magic statues. It would then be possible to reuse these magic statues. The combat power of each statue was in no way inferior to that of a high ranked undead. This was a large amount of wealth.
Thinking about it, Varede started to get happy - even though up until now, he hadn't learned a single thing about alchemy.
“However, the things used to defend the tomb are already this powerful. So what would the real martyrs be?” After carefully inspecting the state of these magic statues and finding that there was no fatal damage, Varede nodded in satisfaction. Then he voiced such a doubt. At the same time the anticipation grew.
Then, let's continue moving forward. But before that, it would be good to confirm the direction of advancement. The entire hall had a tunnel in the front, back, left and right, and the one in the back was, needless to say, the entrance for Varede to come over here. And the other three? ......
“The tunnel at the front is mostly towards the tomb owner's chamber. The level of defense is definitely higher as well. I'm not in a very good condition right now, so it's better to head towards the sides first.” After Varede had made his calculations, he turned around and walked towards the left side of the tunnel. The Ancient Empire honored the right and the left. The right side would most likely be something second only to the main catacombs, so it was said that one by one, starting with the easiest first. Still, the catacombs couldn't run away. There's no rush.
Having made his decision, he continued to move to the left. Varede calculated the time again - a skill he had learned from the federal army in his last life. It was possible to accurately estimate a time spent between one thing and another, with an error of no more than three minutes. This skill brought in from the army in the previous life, though seemingly insignificant, was unexpectedly useful.
“A little over two and a half hours. That means there's still quite a bit of time until dawn.” Thinking like this for a moment, Varede was much more at ease. The designer of the tomb, it seemed, had coincidentally not designed anything too difficult in the left tunnel. It seems that the huge stone ball rumbles and rolls over ah, it seems that the ditch that raises a hundred thousand poisonous snakes and has only one fast-breaking rope to pass through ah, the moat that raises a large number of piranhas ah, the wall suddenly descends, rises, and squeezes from the left and the right ...... It seems that all such things do not appear.
And a few low level, as if deciphering the problem like organs, also let Varede quickly cracked out. Perhaps for the general, the people of this era these problems are very difficult. But for Varede, who came from the future and at least went to a university in the Cosmic Era, it was a piece of cake.
Systems of three-dimensional quadratic equations and whatnot.
And so, finally, after a lot of hard work, Varede reached the end of the tunnel, a tomb sealed with a green stone slab. After paying a little attention to what was different around the stone slabs, Valed found something like a cipher wheel. Two slight attempts were made to turn it - and the floor below was gone.
But fortunately, Valed had prepared for this and had already enchanted himself with a floating spell. So there was no falling.
He fixed his mind a little before continuing to turn this rotating wheel, the first time clockwise, the second time counterclockwise ...... hoping that no more organs would appear.
This time Varede was more fortunate, as the turntable continued to rotate along the counterclockwise, the floor below closed up again. And the lapis lazuli slabs of the mechanism door opened up a little bit. Varede breathed a sigh of relief and stepped in while drawing a table knife and knocking down the poisonous needles that were shot at him. After being on guard for a while longer and confirming that nothing was wrong, he proceeded.
--The catacombs were empty, and there was still a lapis lazuli spacing in front of them, perhaps leading to another tunnel - or of course, there could be mechanisms and traps. The only item inside the tomb, on the other hand, was a book sitting on a pedestal right in the center.
