Night-time. Kanae sits alone in her room, window open, rain outside. Her hand hovers over a photo frame turned face-down.
Narration (Kanae):
“I hated the rain because it made me remember. But now… it makes me jealous.”
Flashback: Middle school. A younger Yuuji and Kanae standing under a bus stop shelter. He’s laughing. She’s looking at him, stunned by the sound.
Young Kanae (thoughts):
“He used to smile like that… only around me.”
Back to present. Kanae turns over the photo. It’s a picture of her, Yuuji, and another girl—smiling. The third girl is blurred from water damage.
Kanae (softly):
“I shouldn’t have let go…”
Cut to school the next day. Kanae walks past Haruka and Yuuji, who are quietly laughing over something Haruka drew. Kanae’s eyes dim.
Narration (Kanae):
“Why does it hurt to see him heal?”
Classroom scene. Tomo cracks a joke. Haruka giggles. Even Yuuji smirks. Kanae watches them, isolated despite being in the same room.
Tomo (joking):
“You’re smiling, Yuuji! Quick, someone take a picture!”
Haruka:
“Too late. I already drew it.”
Kanae on the rooftop. Alone. The sky is clear but she’s crying.
Kanae (thinking):
“I was the one who stayed through every storm… but now it’s sunny, and I don’t know where to stand anymore.”
