CHAPTER XIV TIRED

CHAPTER XIV TIRED

Apr 20, 2025

At four o'clock in the morning Varede, who had had a busy night, returned to the old castle of Dekenhof, and opened the door again, as before, and went back the way he had come, and left each of the fourteen tomb-guards in its place. Walking back to the doorway of his room - after that - he saw the normally unnoticeable black cat, lying on its side in his doorway with its eyes closed, sleeping.

When Varede tried to go around it and return to his own room, the black cat opened its eyes, opened its mouth, and gave him a silent purr.

"I know, back slightly late, next time take care. And please keep this secret for me, I'll share my tomato fish with you again next time." Varede shrugged his shoulders and said this to the black cat.

The black cat humanely showed a helpless expression, opened its mouth once again, and gave a “meow” to Varede, after which it stood up, and with a gentle push of its tail, opened the door for Varede, making way.

"--Oh. Right." I almost forgot about things just now because I was too sleepy. Varede remembered as he walked to the door that he still needed this cat to do him a favor.

“Actually I screwed up.” Valed squatted down and said to the black cat, "The sixteen undead that went out with me all didn't come back. The skeleton wolves are not even close. Those fourteen tomb guards are remnants of my own making. Would it be alright if you helped out and made up the magic seals they needed?"

"...... Meow meow meow meow! Meow meow meow meow!"

  “Speak human!”

"What on earth have you been doing! It's so dangerous!"

“Well, it's just some kid's adventure or something.”

  “--I'm a cat if you're a kid!”

Even though both parties were talking excitedly, they both lowered their voices at the same time to prevent attracting other people's attention. The black cat, Ms. Celia, asked Varede one after the other what he had done to go. Varede clenched his teeth and didn't say a word. On the contrary, he wanted this cat to help him hide it. Ms. Celia naturally refused. In the end, one person and one cat (?) They haggled for half a day. Varede persuaded and persuaded, and finally with the price of eight fish in eggplant sauce and two pieces of magic crystals of at least fifty grams, he finally convinced this black cat to help him.

The female black cat called Ms. Celia had already been living in Dekenhof Castle hundreds of years ago when Valed's grandfather was alive. During these centuries, she had fully established herself as a pet cat while serving as a guard of the old castle as well as a secret agent. Because of its very good temperament, it didn't get annoyed even when Isabella pulled its tail to play with it as a child. Completely not letting people feel that it was a powerful magical creature that could compete with a dragon.

Varede knew about her and understood that she was lazy as hell, feared things the most, and was a glutton for punishment. And with her cat's perspective and secret agent status, she also saw quite a few secrets that were unknown to Varede. The two sides thus often made small deals, Valed gagged her with food's and magic crystals, and she turned a blind eye to some of Valed's behavior.

Arguing with that black cat for most of the day. It was almost five o'clock, and in June, the sun rose early. It had been light for a while. It was only then that Varede felt tired. Originally, small children had a lot of sleep, and he had been busy all night without resting, with magic bombardment with maximum output and organ traps that challenged his body's limits. Before, because of the excitement of having found a treasure, he didn't feel much. It was only after lying on the bed this moment that he realized just how tired he was.

Just like that, after just a little bit of rambling, very quickly, Varede fell asleep. And slept so hard that her sister Isabella came over and tapped on the door, but she didn't hear it at all. This made Isabella, who wanted to talk to Varede before going to school, feel very dissatisfied.

Because of her pride in her bloodline, Isabella looked down on most vampires. Even the other three families that were on par with the Karstein family.

"Lamia is a bunch of bitches who only count people behind their backs and sell their sex. And the Abrahmsin are a bunch of idiots with muscles in their heads. The Niracochi's are even a bunch of complete lunatics ......"

That's pretty much it, the other three families that had a great reputation in the vampire world, the Aberrahcyn who was the number one in martial arts, the Niracochi who possessed the strongest undead necromancy, and the Lamia who was full of beautiful women and schemers. Just like that, they were disparaged by their own sister as useless. Luckily, she only told her own brother about it when there were no outsiders. Other than that, even in front of her mother, she didn't show even the slightest hint of such a meaning.

Perhaps it was because she thought Varede was small - no, you can't say that, otherwise she wouldn't have asked her brother and begged him to help her with her homework.

It was because of trust, then. The kind of trust that comes from blood. Or in addition to that, there was some over-the-top feelings present. It made Varede more or less uncomfortable when facing Isabella.

Varede's room was divided into three parts. The innermost, was Varede's bedroom with a very large closet. The middle place was the largest, with a study, recreation room, washroom and parlor. The outer place was the smallest, and was the little maid Maya's room. Isabella knocked on the door outside, but Valeed, who was sleeping soundly in the innermost part of the room, didn't hear her. In the end, it was Maya who was busy cleaning up the house that opened the door.

When Maya opened the door and saw Isabella standing at the door, she subconsciously avoided a step back. Because this Missy had a bad temper, and never gave the servants in the old castle a good look. And because of her profession, Maya usually spent a lot of time beside Varede, and it would be fine if she was an ugly bitch. But she was quite cute. Isabella naturally disliked her very much. Whenever there was something going on, she liked to find trouble with her.

“So, is my brother still not up now?” Standing at Varede's doorway, looking at Maya, who was wearing a large skirt of a maid's outfit, Isabella wrinkled her eyebrows impatiently. Slightly lighter and thin eyebrow tips, and thin lips made her look a little mean. Overall, though, it was still a total beauty.

“Yes, it's like this - if you want, miss, I can call the young master-” Maya's words were interrupted in mid-sentence by Isabella.

"What do you mean by that? If my brother isn't up right now, it's proof that he needs more adequate sleep. It's a very important thing for him to do! And as his maid, all you have to do is to serve him and fulfill all his requests, not cause him trouble!"

“Yes, yes Onii-chan ......” Maya shivered while bowing her head in response. Of course, perhaps she was so scared that she didn't even hear exactly what Isabella said. But that didn't stop her from shivering as if she was a frightened deer.

Of course, despite talking about letting her brother get enough rest or something, it was too loud. So it woke up Varede as well. This made the vampire teenager who had stayed up until morning very dissatisfied.

Even though it was going to bar his sister if he went out at this hour. But waking up with the addition of a groggy head increased Varede's courage for a while. It seemed that his sister who always liked to rub his face wasn't so scary anymore. Just like that, wearing his pajamas, Varede rubbed his eyes while opening the door to his room. In a slightly disgruntled voice, he said to his sister, “You're too loud, sister Isabella.”

A situation like this, if someone who didn't know the truth saw it, would most likely misinterpret it like this: the maid-controlling brother's sibling-controlling sister did something excessive to the brother's cute maid, and thus was hated by the sibling-controlling sister's maid-controlling brother.

Of course, that wasn't the case at all. Varede didn't hold any special feelings towards his exclusive maid cum meal. Although it was said that after spending a few years with her, if there was a change at first glance, it was said that there would be a few days of discomfort. But that was all. It's like complaining to a parent, “Hey, that's the pillow & cup & pen I'm used to!” to a parent who complains, "Hey, that's the pillow & cup & pen I'm used to! A little complaining and they'll acquiesce.

Still, even with such a low degree of caring. It was rare for Maya. Even, describing it a little more exaggeratedly, that little bit of insignificant cherishing from Varede was the only one she had after eight years of descending into this world, that could support her to continue living.

Even though this kind of statement made Maya seem cheap. But it seemed as if the price was high enough for a girl of her grassroots origins and no support. Her parents had sold her to the vampires of Dekenhoff for five gold larges. This price was one-fifth of the material used for a test by Miss Isabella before.

Looking at Varede slightly dissatisfied, she looked at herself. Isabella was slightly angry, and wanted to wrap her arms around Varede's face like she usually did, and then leaned against her chest and rubbed hard. But this thought flickered and was given up by Isabella.

“There are still underlings here, and I have to be responsible for my brother's image.” Isabella felt quite proud at the thought. Thinking that she was, at this point, in stark contrast to Maya, the little maid who had no idea whatsoever about looking out for Varede. It was definitely her victory.

Although, it was wrong for Isabella to compare herself to Maya from the very beginning. Because there was absolutely no comparison. She was a vampire aristocrat, a great lady of the Karstein family. Maya, on the other hand, was just a poor little maid ......
