Yuuji is in the classroom alone during lunch. Tomo walks in and slaps a lunch box on his desk.
Tomo:
“If you’re gonna be a ghost, at least haunt with a full stomach.”
Yuuji (deadpan):
“Did you cook this?”
Tomo:
“No. I want you alive.”
Haruka is on the roof alone, drawing. She’s sketching Yuuji, but can’t finish his face. She scribbles over it, frustrated.
Haruka (thinking):
“Why can’t I draw you anymore…?”
Kanae watches from the door but doesn’t go to Haruka. Flashback to her childhood memory: a young Yuuji and Kanae laughing in the rain.
Young Kanae (past):
“You smiled so easily back then…”
Kanae (present, thinking):
“And now... you smile for someone else.”
Comedy slice! Tomo is trying to “train” Yuuji to smile. He holds up stupid photos, tells awful jokes, and even brings out a tiny mirror.
Tomo:
“Say cheese like your dignity isn’t dying inside.”
Yuuji (blank):
“I feel like I just aged 5 years.”
Tomo (mock dramatic):
“We’ll get there, my emotionally constipated friend.”
Haruka almost comes up the stairs again—but she turns and walks away. Kanae sees her leave. Then walks onto the roof herself.
Kanae (to Yuuji):
“She’s avoiding us. Especially you.”
Yuuji (quiet):
“…I noticed.”
Yuuji stands alone at the edge of the rooftop as the sky begins to darken. His eyes trail where Haruka disappeared.
Yuuji (thinking):
“I don’t understand what I did… but I want to.”
