The school festival is coming up. Posters and flyers everywhere. Students buzzing with energy.
Tomo runs up with a flyer in hand, excited.
Tomo:
“Guess what! We’re doing a ‘Youth Memories’ theme this year!”
Yuuji (flat):
“Ah. Nostalgia bait.”
Tomo:
“Exactly. Time to pretend our trauma’s cute!”
Kanae walks beside Haruka. They’re quiet at first, but the tension builds. Haruka finally speaks.
Haruka:
“Do you... regret not telling him?”
Kanae (pauses):
“…Do you?”
Haruka (whispers):
“Every day.”
A bit later, the group is planning their class event. Tomo suggests a haunted house. Haruka and Yuuji suggest something calmer.
Kanae looks distant.
Tomo:
“Orrr we could just trap Yuuji in a box until he learns what emotion is!”
Yuuji:
“I’m already trapped. It’s called friendship.”
Sad turn. Kanae is alone in the classroom afterward. She touches the edge of her desk—there’s a carved memory from years ago.
It reads: “Y + K = always rain, always smile.”
Kanae (thinking):
“I wrote this… the day he stopped smiling.”
Twist moment: Tomo walks in quietly. Sees her tracing the carving. He doesn’t say anything for a moment. Then—
Tomo (softly):
“You love him too, don’t you?”
Kanae (eyes widen):
“…Too?”
Tomo walks past her slowly, heading to the window.
Tomo (smiles sadly):
“Yeah. But I’m the one who tells the jokes, remember?”
