The school festival begins. The class is buzzing, booths being built. Decorations going up.
Yuuji is painting a board. Haruka stands next to him, a little too quiet.
Yuuji:
“You’re not even criticizing my painting. That’s how I know something’s wrong.”
Haruka (gentle smile):
“I think you’re getting better. Even if you still don’t smile.”
Kanae watches from the distance, biting her lip. Tomo stands beside her, arms crossed.
Tomo:
“Are you going to keep watching like it’s a movie?”
Kanae (softly):
“No... I think it’s time I say something.”
Midday. The classroom is empty. Kanae pulls Yuuji aside quietly. She’s nervous but firm.
Kanae:
“Yuuji. I’ve been holding something in for a long time.”
Yuuji (surprised):
“…Kanae?”
She faces him head-on, eyes shining but unblinking.
Kanae:
“I liked you. Maybe I still do. But I always waited. I thought… I had more time.”
Yuuji (silent):
“…I didn’t know.”
Kanae:
“I figured.”
She steps back, smiles faintly. There’s no tears, just quiet release.
Kanae:
“I don’t expect an answer. I just didn’t want to be silent anymore.”
Outside the classroom, Tomo leans against the wall, eyes closed, listening.
Tomo (thinking):
“One brave soul down… two more to go.”
