There was a big, dark grey wolf approaching my and Liam's tree. He was beautiful. He also was.. familiar... In a way. But what was a wolf even doing here? I know there are wolves in the forest deep inside but they never came that close.
The wolf stopped next to the tree and started sniffing, his tail slightly wagging when he probably smelled my and Liam's scent. But why would he look so excited over a scent?
His gaze returned to mine and locked. That wolf did not quite look like a wolf. The way he stared at me, it gave me chills.
He stepped forward and his gaze dropped to my bag when he hit it with his paw. He lowered his head and sniffed it. That smelled strongly of me cause I carried it just now.
He grabbed my bag between his teeth and looked at me mischievously.
Can a wolf even do that?
Then he bolted. With my bag! He was so gonna regret it!!
"Hey! That's mine!" I yelled. Without thinking, I ran after him, ignoring everyone's worried yells telling me to stop.
The wolf didn't run fast, it's like he wanted me to catch him. So I did. I don't know what exactly I was thinking when I tackled him, making the both of us roll on the ground. Then I groaned in pain as I moved to sit on my knees. I looked infront of me to see the wolf already sitting and staring right at me.
I felt shivers running down my spine. It didn't feel like a wolf was watching me, it felt more like an actual human with those eyes. Maybe this wolf was a human before? In his former life? I usually don't believe in that stuff but I think that's an exception.
I searched for my bag and saw it next to the wolf. Oh great, just how lucky I am. The wolf was still looking at me, watching my every move. I slowly moved on all fours towards the bag.
I looked between my bag and the wolf. I inched closer and the wolf did the same. "That's mine" I whispered, placing my hand on it, and slowly pulled it towards me.
When I finally had it within a snatch reach, I looked down. But it was a mistake. In the second I broke eye contact with the wolf, he pounced on me and I ended up flat on my back, with the air out of my lungs.
I think I made some kind of pained noise that caught the wolf's attention, because he hastily got off me. I moved to sit down once more and coughed a few times to get air back in.
When I looked back up at him, he was just sitting there, staring at me.
That's starting to get creepy.
"Kai!" My head snapped to my right side to see Liam. Behind him and to his sides there were a few teachers and all of the school's students. Literally. When did they even get there?
The wolf growled at them. So without thinking twice, I reached my hands towards him.
"It's okay" I whispered, making him return his gaze back to me. I hesitated then, retracting my hands a bit when his eyes pierced my own. I could see myself in their reflection. It was unnerving, making a chill run down my spine once more. "It's okay" I whispered again, this time more for myself than to him.
My palms then submerged in his fur, and oh my god, it was sooo soft I almost squealed.
It took a few seconds, but then the wolf calmed down enough that he sat down close to me. Too close for me to be calm, but something in him did just that.
"I need to go" I suddenly said.
The wolf stood on all fours and small, quiet whimpers left his mouth. Can he really understand me?
Nuhhh..
I tried again just in case. Just to make sure.
"I need to go. You can... come here.. later?" I didn't even know what I was saying.
He whimpered again and hovered over me slowly, it made me lay flat on my back once more. He got closer to my face but no sign of violence was present on his gracious face and I wasn't feeling scared. I pushed my hands against his chest to prevent him fromβ
"Oh my god!! Haha! Stop, stoooop!" I laughed, pushing harder against him and squirming under him as I tried to get away from his face and tongue reach.
He finally stopped showering me, giving me a break and I finally was able to breath normally. I looked into his eyes again. But this time, instead of them looking scary, they looked calmer and his tongue lolled out of his mouth. He looked like a very happy, big puppy.
He started walking and looked back at me once. I smiled and waved. He howled in response. I stared at him as he walked away. And I kept staring until he disappeared beyond the trees and bushes.
It felt like a dream. What in the world just happened? What was that..? I've never seen a wolf in real before.
Suddenly I felt tired and dizzy. I almost fell when I tried to stand up. But like always, Liam was there and he caught me before I hit the ground.
"Kai, you okay?" His voice was full of worry.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." I managed a smile. A little too forcefully though. If he noticed βwhich he probably hadβ he doesn't push it. Thankfully.
We made our way back to the school's building. And Unfrotunately, I've been sent to the nurse's office to rest. TO REST. Nothing even happened to meeee.
At first, I refused. But when Liam actually almost begged me, I decided that a rest didn't sound so bad.
But they went too far when they actually called my mum. Why? Because I had an encounter with a very nice and cute wolf? The cutest I've ever seen alright. It's not like I'm rabid or something!
Kai thinks he's just a normal human being like all the other students in his class. But then he realizes how wrong he was. People he trusted, lied to him all of his life. Someone he thought was dead, turned out to be alive.
He felt so betrayed.
Stuff he thought were just legends and fairytales, turned out to be all true.
It all was too overwhelming.
He tried to run away cause he couldn't handle that much at once. But with the right, not so usual people by his side, he learns how to accept the truth.
