Chapter 6
Samuel and Jackson rushed to their combat 101 class, after learning a few new spells Samuel was feeling pretty good about himself. Especially after learning new magic, Samuel grabbed Jackson's arm. Instead of boosting them though he used an old spell he’d learned called teleport, that now was enhanced by the knight’s magic.
When they were in front of the classroom Samuel needed to stop for a second, he felt he was getting low on mana. It was the last class of the day though, so they would be going back to their dorms soon.
“Ready?” Jackson asked,
“Ya, i’m just going to be super tired.” Samuel said as they walked into the classroom, it was a large area with a lot of people in it. A man stood on top of a stage leading from one side of the classroom to the other.
“Welcome! Welcome! Take a seat, and prepare for a challenge!” Samuel and Jackson sat criss-cross on the floor with everyone else, and watched as the man talked. He was an athletic man, held a sword in his hand, and had a small beard on his chin. He wouldn’t be considered tall, but he was taller than average.
“Well as some of you know my name is Mr. O'donnell, and I will be your teacher for your new combat class!” The man seemed over-enthusiastic about being a teacher to learn how to kill things. “We will begin our first class with a few duels, Liberta. I know you’ve fought on the stage already but what about your friend there has he dueled anyone yet?” Jackson shook his head, “Well then I think we should give ‘The Last Knight’ a warm welcome, and you’ll be facing Harry Moss over here. Rise to the stage with your weapon, I’ll be on standby.” The teacher walked to the other side of the stage, and Samuel walked to the stage as well.
Samuel looked at Jackson for support, and as he always did he gave Samuel a big thumbs up. Samuel walked up on the stage with a borrowed sword in hand because he’d been studying all day and forgot his own sword. Harry Moss looked like he knew what he was doing, he had armor and a sword that was made of what looked like pure iron.
“Come on up participants! It’s time to fight!” Samuel walked up to the middle of the stage, and looked at his opponent. He was already in position, and ready to fight. “All magic is allowed, and only when you have the opponent in a state of weakness.” Everyone was in position, even Samuel. “Ready, Fight!”
Harry ran at Samuel, and Samuel dodged. Harry ran behind him, and immediately turned around. Harry slid down to Samuels feet, making Samuel trip. Samuel was able to cast a flying spell before he did though, he was very low on mana now and he could only cast about two spells. Harry swung at Samuel. Samuel was able to dodge just in time, but his sword didn’t. His sword flew off the stage, and onto the floor.
Harry laughed, “What kind of knight are you? Not one that they tell in stories I know.”
Harry lunged at Samuel for what would probably be the final blow, but Samuel cast the last spell he could. Creating a sword of fire to fight with. Harry was stunned, so much so Samuel was able to sweep him by the leg and blast for bolt at him before he hit the floor pushing him off the stage.
Samuel smiled, “What kind of knight am I again?” He nodded to the teacher and returned the sword, “The Last Knight.”
Samuel was exhausted when he got back to his room with Jackson. So much so that he thought that he couldn’t do magic.
“So what do we do now?” Jackson asked,
Samuel let out a sigh of relief, “Relax.”
Suddenly the door slammed open, “Hey guys what’s up?” Charles yelled.
Samuel looked at Charles, “My magic takes away all energy I have, and I can’t do anything.” Samuel slammed his head back onto his new bed.
Jackson shook his head, “He says hi.”
Eric and Sylvan came in after him,
“Hey Sam, why are you so tired?” Eric asked
Samuel turned to face Eric, “My magic uses my energy to enter the void, whenever I do I get more exhausted.”
“Oh, so are you grumpy too? Because I don't think the whole roommate thing is going to work then.” Eric joked,
“Ha ha.” Samuel said back, “So how were your days?”
Charles looked at them, “Boring, lot’s of studying. Magic becomes repetitive over time.”
Samuel’s eyes widened, “What if we could change that?”
Sylvan looked at Samuel, “What do you mean?” He asked
Samuel sat up, “What if I could find a better way to learn magic then being repetitive.”
“How would you do that?” Jackson asked,
Samuel started to explain, “When I opened the study, I used a weird language to learn the magic, what if I could figure out the language? I could make it easier!”
Eric looked at Samuel, “I think that’s a tomorrow thing, a today thing is getting to sleep.”
Samuel thought of something else at the same time, “What if I could increase my mana, and I wouldn’t be that tired anymore!”
Eric looked as tired as Samuel did, “Charles, please say you know a sleep spell.”
“Nope,” Charles said, “but I could do this, hey Samuel can you cast another spell?”
Samuel was too tired to think of what they were trying to do, so he did as told.
“Ok, I cast fire bolt.” He said,
As soon as the magic entered his hand, he was already asleep.
