Two days passed by quickly and the questions that started out as a part of the interrogation slowly became more of a conversation.
And on rare occasions, it even led to her smile slightly, which was the best part of the conversation for me, before she realised it and hid it again.
She was a mystery that was for sure, but her true nature was what I really wanted to see.
Maybe someday she'll have conversations with me without holding back her emotions and she'll laugh and smile all the time, I thought.
The mere thought of it made me happy, for some unknown reason.
But then again, I was probably going to leave here in a day or two. It was a shame because she was so interesting and nice at the same time, but I had responsibilities to take care of myself too.
Maybe, I'll visit her pack and her someday again, I thought.
I had stopped asking questions about her and instead directed them towards the pack so that I could learn more about her through them.
Today was the first time I walked outside and met the rest of them. Of course, everyone was on edge with my reappearance but after they saw me just enjoying the sunset they calmed down. I guess it also helped that their alpha was sitting by my side peacefully.
" That's Daen and Pedro. " Lyla said as she introduced them last.
Daen and Pedro had come closer and settled down near us, probably because they were quite protective of their alpha, which I had learnt by now.
Hearing their names they looked back at me and nodded, clearly not on speaking terms. I guess they were still angry at me for hurting her, I thought.
We rose to head back into the house as the colours in the sky started fading away.
" Well... They don't trust you yet. " She said as she walked ahead in front of me. She must have seen my slight frown, I thought in surprise and quickly responded with a grin.
" I don't blame them. I wouldn't either. " I said with a chuckle.
She looked around at me her face suddenly showing the raw emotion of confusion before she covered her mouth and snickered.
I took a second to process the small gesture that she had made. Why was she having such an impact on me? I wondered with a frown.
This was why I wanted to know more about her, she was extremely thoughtful and even though she gave out the appearance that she didn't care, she was truly very kind on the inside.
It was almost as if this peaceful day was too good to be true that we suddenly stopped in our tracks when we heard Reynar's growls.
Reynar had gone off for his routine run to do a boundary check and had just come back.
" I heard them, the other wolves. Very faint. But they'll be here by tomorrow night if they continue searching in this direction. " He said in a low growl as he caught his breath. Reynar was one of the pack's best scouts, Lyla had said and I didn't doubt it.
I turned to see Lyla's face harden as an annoyed growled escaped her throat. " Thanks, Reynar. " She said as she held massaged her forehead with a frown.
Daen's eyes fell on Lyla and then on me.
Knowing what I had to do, I immediately spoke up. " I'll leave first thing in the morning. I can't endanger your hospitality. You've already done enough for me. " I said with my alpha voice.
Lyla looked up at me with troubled eyes, but knowing that this was the only way to ensure her pack's safety, she nodded.
Leaving me on my own for a while, she moved aside with Daen and Pedro to talk to them.
" Be on the lookout guys. If anything seems off tell me immediately. " She told her pack as she walked back towards the house with me behind her.
As soon as the door closed behind us, I saw her brows scrunch up together as her lips twitched in annoyance.
Looks like she hadn't thought of this when she took me in, I thought as I found myself suddenly disappointed.
I had taken her for a capable alpha but the reactions she gave right now made the alpha in me very annoyed.
" You know, you should have expected this, the moment you took me in. " I said as I sat plopped down on the couch, trying to keep the coldness of my tone in control as I stared at her.
" I thought you were grateful that we did. " She said with narrowed eyes as turned around to face me.
Lyla, an alpha werewolf was content with life and wanted to spend the rest of her days in peace with her pack of wolves.

Being hell-bent on trying to figure out her mysterious origin and who she actually is, she decides to use the opportunity that is Felix to learn more.
But things don't go according to her plan and being fiercely loyal to her pack, she is ready to protect them at any cost, even if it means taking Felix's, the other werewolf alpha's, help.
What happens when hidden secrets about her pack and her parents start unravelling while the Moon Goddess's secret blessing threatens to turn their complicated feelings for each other into something more?
And all of this whilst they prepare for a ferocious faceoff between them and one of the most feared packs in all of history that has once again risen from the dark.
