forever isnt real

chapter 1

chapter 1

May 06, 2025

I was sitting in front of my vanity carefully brushing back my obsidian hair when there was a quick knock on my door. I walked the length of the room to the door and I was about to open it when I noticed something on the floor. It was a carefully folded note with my name on it. I crouched down to pick it up and noticed something else next to the note.  It was a blood red rose. It had a sweet scent that bought me back to a day eleven years ago.

It was another one of those long summer days, the kind that make you feel like there is nothing but joy in the world. I had been trying to climb a tree when a girl with wild auburn hair had appeared by my side and asked me if I needed help. We had spent the rest of the afternoon together smelling flowers and climbing trees. We had found a patch of wild roses that smelled almost identical to this one. Then the sun had started to set and she had run off after saying a quick goodbye. I hadn't even gotten her name.

I snapped back into reality and picked up the note. It was in a cream envelope with a flower drawn on the front. I opened it and a small note written on a piece of parchment. Written on it was a few words written in dainty handwriting. Meet me at our tree at four bells. I smiled widely and sauntered over to my writing desk. I picked up the monogrammed writing utensil box and selected the quill pen and a deep blue ink. I sifted through the pile of parchment paper and wrote my own little note. I finished the last word and folded it up. I drew a little flower on the front and then slipped it into the little leather satchel that took up a permanent residence hanging on the arm of my desk chair. I slung it over my shoulder, making a mental note to take out the heavy books I had left in there after my trip to the bookstore, and walked out of my room, closing the door behind me and promptly going back in to retrieve the heavy iron key I always forget to take with me. I walked back out and locked the door behind me even though I lived in one of the most secure castles in the Tyrian Islands. Not that there are many castles in the Islands. I was getting off track. I ambled towards the stairs and started my descent.
