Chapter 12.

Preparations.

For days, Auritz Ferrán studied his wife's movements. Every drop of sweat that trickled down her face as she slept seemed to reflect the fact that she was in a constant nightmare, something she couldn't escape.

 But no matter how many times he asked her, in a voice that was almost inaudible so that it could be mistaken for the voice of his conscience, what was happening, she didn't answer.

The day of the dinner arrived, and only Zulay, the girl's grandmother, attended. The family's arbitrary behavior in scorning his invitation made it very clear what her values were and who truly mattered to her, and evidently, none of them fit the profile of his wife.

So, she was the least liked girl in her family. In fact, during dinner, the old woman did nothing, but praise the qualities of her other granddaughter. And then he blurted out: If she's so good,  ¿why did they change my wife?

Zulay was speechless at the question. She didn't expect him to find out about that shameless prank, so she said:  ¿Why have we given Kaled? Because she's very simple, doesn't ask for much, is submissive, and will always obey your orders...

We were thinking about what's best for you. Besides, Yerai is about to get engaged. We couldn't destroy a relationship like that.  ¿What would the media say? Besides, she...

The old woman stopped responding, but stared at the wheelchair and the man's masked face. There were no words that couldn't be interpreted. It was then that Auritz said to her:

Since you've given me the jewel of the family, as you just mentioned,  ¿why don't you transfer all your titles to her name and I'll believe you? After all, family always chooses family,  ¿isn't that right, Mrs. Zulay?

The woman immediately looked at her granddaughter, searching her face for some kind of answer, but the girl kept staring at her plate of food. She couldn't ruin this dinner, which, despite the fact that almost no one had come, was happening...

And with a smile, the woman replied: Because the Waldo family titles always go to the eldest daughters, and Kaled is the youngest, so, that won't be possible, Mr. Ferrán, and if you allow me, my time here is over...

The old woman stood up after saying that and left the room. She was upset, she felt humiliated, but she believed she had made it clear what the family's priorities were...

It was then that Auritz brought the wheelchair closer to where his wife was, brought her to his lap, and he could see the tears gathering in her eyes. It was like seeing the spitting image of a child who had just been scolded and forbidden to go out to play...

Seeing the tears simply flowing without saying anything and wet her hands was something different, strange. Not only was she the least loved daughter in the family, but also the most abused, so, putting the wheelchair in motion, they went out into the garden…

The night was beautiful, the moon was at its most splendid. There was no way that the beauty of that young woman couldn't be revealed under the moon. Perhaps not that of a magazine model, but certainly that of someone with a sensitive soul and heart…
