A journey into Nothingness

THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL: The day of Calenmir’s assumption – CH18

THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL: The day of Calenmir’s assumption – CH18

May 07, 2025

Sky-blue eyes, deep and unfathomable, pale skin, almost as if moonlight always touched it. He wears robes in shades of blue and silver, embroidered with elven filigree representing the emblem of the Fael'Quessir clan, symbolizing a generation already quite ancient, over 1,000 centuries old. Elves typically have a long lifespan of about 100 centuries.

In his swift passage, the advisor informs him:

"Forgive my boldness, Your Majesty, but this matter cannot wait," he said, drawing the attention of Calenmir, accompanied by Minimus and Index, who was hidden in his shadow.

"Master Sindra, your face still shows no emotion, which makes it even harder to read. My flowers might catch your bad mood," Calenmir replied.

"I'll try to improve my attitude then, for Your Majesty."

"What's so urgent? Tell me."

"The Crown Circle has been assembled, as you ordered. All members were summoned half an hour ago and are awaiting your arrival."

"I've changed my mind for now. Cancel the meeting for today; I need to think it over a bit more. Sorry for the inconvenience."

"No need to apologize, Your Majesty. It shall be done," Sindra replied with a bow.

He raised his head, admiring how Index emerged on her knees from Calenmir's shadow, summoned by him. She was naked, with that small furry blanket over her shoulders, exposing her abdomen and crudely covering few parts of her body.

"Sindra, do me the favor of ensuring my ladies find something decent for my protector. She feeds off me, so focus only on getting her the best to fulfill her duties."

"As you command, my lady. But I must inform you that we have a shortage of blue metal for crafting equipment."

"Master Sindra, do your job, please."

"Yes, my lady," he responded firmly.

The queen's advisor asked Index to accompany him and withdrew. She expressed her fatigue and demanded a bath. Upon entering her royal bedroom, she asked Minimus to undress her and help her relax a bit. Then, she spent the rest of the day with massages, reading books on politics and magic.

She loves flowers, which is no surprise given her descent from a connection with Inocensy. So, she spent hours in her private garden, tending to her flowers herself, with the help of two maids authorized to be there, touch, and handle her flowers.

Despite her cold appearance, she enjoys disconnecting and strolling in this place. It's like her home, her childhood, her favorite place, overflowing with flowers of a thousand colors and a thousand different scents that create the perfect atmosphere. It often brings back memories of the person she loved most in the world: her grandmother.

A peculiar flower, sharing the meaning of her surname but with different names, esmeraldia, stands out among them all. It's a glowing green flower, embedded with radiant runes, impeccably drawn on its petals. Each one exudes an aroma with various effects and uses, a precious flower that steals attention for its extreme rarity and, above all, its purifying qualities against any evil, the perfect remedy to ward off and cure the corruption of someone infected who hasn't yet undergone 50% of the transformation into a monster.

Minimus, noticing her distracted eyes, realizes that only in this moment, and only in front of that flower, do her eyes show a sensitivity that no one else will have the luxury of suspecting about her most vulnerable side.

A wise lesson in silence and observation that nurtured in Minimus a flower of empathy and a strong conviction to contribute more than he can for her.

It's the only distant moment that matters to her, and though unthinkable, he can sense his protectee's weakness. But he knows he cannot shield her from a pain she herself refuses to heal. So, Calenmir spends her hours beside that flower, gazing, thinking, and delicately tracing its edges, not daring to even brush the trichomes of its petals.

And as night fell, she decided to take a bath, alone… with her most loyal guest. Calenmir didn't like dwelling on her traumas.

Seeing her scars reminds her how vulnerable she was in the past before being named queen. Minimus, her faithful servant and protector, was assigned to her since childhood, born with her and raised with her. They never spoke, never touched, and never looked at each other until her will radically changed as she grew. Thus, she chose to cross the boundaries between protector and protectee.

In moments like these, she demanded more from him when she felt lonely. Tonight, she asked two things of him:

First, to heat the water to the temperature she likes. And amid their exchanged glances, it seemed the next order was forbidden to mention but not to carry out.

Then, Minimus approached her, a queen shy under the soft, delicate caresses of her lover. He held her by the hips, carefully lowering his hands, drawing her buttocks toward him, melding their bodies into one, uniting their kisses and silent caresses like two teenagers aflame, feeling and living the intimate moment with passion.

Though cautious, their sighs betrayed the queen's undeniable pleasure in the forbidden, and the carnal passion her servant provided. Calenmir's persistent, irresistible moans echoed through the halls, though Index, faithfully performing her duty, knew not to interrupt and stood guarding the door and the privacy of her beloved and coveted queen.

[The next morning]

Calenmir wakes in her bed and, naked, heads to the bathroom. Minimus opens the door to her room from the outside, letting in the maids to tidy up and bring breakfast. The lady-in-waiting, Agaêl Vitrilvil, appears and greets Minimus. As she enters Calenmir's room, she notices her dressing and apologizes, but Calenmir, untroubled, allows her to enter.

"Come in, Agaêl."

"Mir, don't forget you have an important meeting with the high council in the Crown Circle, and…"

"Agaêl, how many times must I tell you to show more respect to your queen? I allow certain behavior in private, but it's unacceptable to disrespect me outside my privacy. That alone is enough reason for me to be angry."

"Oh, Mir, please! We've been friends since we were kids. I know all your secrets, you love flowers, and I know you're dying for Mini—"

"Alright, shut up! He'll hear you."

"He doesn't even talk, Mir," she says with her usual smile.

"Fine, what do you want, Agaêl?"

"You've changed so much; you're getting more bitter every day. The meeting starts in 20 minutes."

"Agaêl, remember you're here only because of your problem-solving skills, not because we were once close. Get it together; I need you focused, or I'll find someone more capable to do your damn job. And I'm asking you, Miss Vitrilvil, will it be necessary to go that far?" she asked angrily, with a provocative tone.

Agaêl has long, wavy hair that flows as if the wind always plays with it, its shade varying between coppery gold, chestnut with amber highlights, or even reddish, as if capturing the light of dawn. She always wears it loosely tied, with rebellious strands escaping in all directions.

Her eyes are large and expressive, a deep amber-red. Her gaze is never still; there's always a spark of emotion, curiosity, or mischief in it.

She speaks quickly and enthusiastically, constantly moving her hands as she expresses herself. Her lips always seem to curve into a smile, even when the queen scolds her. Her eyebrows arch dramatically when she's surprised or indignant, and she has an innate knack for mimicking others' voices just for fun.

She's never completely still. When standing, she sways on her heels or crosses her arms casually. She walks with light, springy steps, as if incapable of moving with the queen's cold elegance. Her laugh is easy and musical, sometimes even teasing, but without malice.

Unlike the queen, who likely wears stiff fabrics and green jewels reflecting her cold, commanding presence, Agaêl prefers light, flowing fabrics in warm colors like gold, crimson, and amber. If she wears jewelry, it's small and nature-inspired, like leaf-shaped earrings.

Agaêl, loyal to her queen, though few know they were once best friends. Agaêl vowed never to abandon her, and though she never said it outright, as children, she often fought at the royal elven academy for the adorable, innocent Calenmir. Back then, Calenmir endured much bullying from other girls. Agaêl often escaped expulsion only because she was friends with the future queen.

Calenmir was almost an object of scorn; she was deeply envied by her peers, besides being the most beautiful and kind to everyone. Since childhood, she always drew attention. Thus, they grew very close. Calenmir used to be very shy and tearful until the day her grandmother passed away.

In the kingdom of Montesis, where magic is forbidden, Don (Sei-naru Shaw), a 129-year-old repairman and technician with elemental abilities, dreams of protecting Mary and creating a peaceful home, but loses his powers. His life changes when he is forced to become a Protector to maintain order and world peace, just as his parents were in his forgotten past.

The journey begins when Don falls in love with the beauty and culture of the kingdom of Montesis during his first expedition. This world is divided between two magical forces: the positive ether and the negative ether (“the Nothing”), the latter ruling Don and making him a magnet for the dark forces of the underworld.

As the sole survivor of his race, Don becomes the target of Earth's most powerful king and Mei-Wei, one of the most influential women for her special medicines.

The conflict escalates after the destruction of his village, the murder of his teacher and his platonic love, Mary's mother, which follows the appearance of a prince from the underworld, who plans to unleash chaos through the forest.

Consumed by revenge, Don accepts Mei-Wei's offer, though he refuses to be what his father was, the Protector, revealing his darker, more apathetic side. As the defenders of the realm outnumber him in strength, Don will compensate with tactics and much violence, beginning his descent into darkness. However, an inner voice persists, warning him of the consequences.
