The faint morning light seeped in through the wooden window of the storage room. A golden beam gently lay on the ground, but what had happened between the two naked bodies had left a warmth that reached down to their very bones.
Kael woke up first. His eyes stared in horror at Sarit’s naked figure sleeping in his arms. It took a few seconds for his mind to piece together what had happened the night before.
“Damn...” he said hoarsely and suddenly sat up.
Sarit opened his eyes in fear and looked around. Seeing Kael hastily putting on his clothes, his lips trembled. “Kael...”
Without looking at him, Kael only murmured, “Sorry... I... I shouldn’t have...”
And before another word could be exchanged, he rushed out of the storage room.
A bitter silence lingered in the air.
Sarit sighed, stared at his bare body, and said dryly,
“So... what exactly am I supposed to do with this now?”
Two months later
The weather had grown warmer, but Sarit was more lethargic than ever. Constant headaches, stomach aches, and nausea. He had lost his appetite and looked pale.
One of the young guards stood beside him with a worried expression. “You’re not well. I’ve seen you these past few days—you’re struggling to even breathe.”
Sarit scowled. “It’s none of your business.”
But the guard was persistent. “The head of the family ordered us to ensure the health of everyone in the household. Come with me. Just a simple checkup.”
Reluctantly, he followed him.
Kael, who was in the library, overheard them unintentionally. When the guard left, he called out, “Where... where did you take Sarit?”
The guard answered honestly, “Took him to the doctor. He hasn’t been able to eat for days, keeps throwing up. I had to insist.”
Kael froze.
His hands clenched, and he quietly left the library.
In the hallway by the medical room, he stood behind a column and saw Sarit coming out. His face was white as chalk. His eyes were shocked, and his breathing heavy.
Kael walked quickly into the room. The doctor, surprised by the future head of the family’s presence, stood up. “Sir?”
Kael whispered, “That... Sarit. What’s wrong with him?”
