Eivar walked heavily across the cobblestone path. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of fresh flowers—but nothing could lift his mood. His eyes were still red from the night before.
Sarit (from behind, gently):
“You’ll catch a cold in this weather, Eivar.”
Eivar (without turning around, voice weary):
“Didn’t think I’d live to see the day I’d be sold off without even being asked.”
Sarit (standing beside him):
“If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have let it happen… believe me.
I’m not happy about this decision either. But... you’re in a difficult position, my son.”
Eivar (bitterly):
“A difficult position? Being tied to some creepy, cursed prince like a sacrificial pawn—
That’s what you call a position?”
Sarit (taking a deep breath):
“It’s called responsibility, Eivar.”
Eivar (softening slightly, looking into Sarit’s sincere eyes):
“I… I’m just… confused.”
Sarit (offering a bittersweet smile):
“Then let’s go inside… before the cold gets sad with you.”
[At that moment – the sound of hooves and a carriage stopping at the entrance.]
Both Eivar and Sarit turn toward the gate. The carriage door opens, and a boy around twenty steps out. His hair is a bright silver, just like Alina’s. But his eyes? They’re the exact same color as Eivar’s and the Duke’s.
Eivar (in his mind, startled):
“Who is…?”
Alina hurries down the stairs with a fabricated smile.
Alina:
“Oh, darling! You’ve finally arrived!”
The boy stands still, his gaze calm but slightly curious. He looks at Eivar and Sarit.
Boy (speaking clearly and politely):
“I’m Sin Rion. Son of Duke Kael… and Lady Alina.”
Eivar (shocked, stepping back):
“What? I… I have a brother?”
Alina (with a biting tone):
“A brother? Oh no, no. You were a mistake. He’s the real heir.”
Sin (slightly smiling, his gaze cold):
“Mother… Even so, we are brothers. I’m glad I finally get to meet you.”
Sarit (smiling warmly, stepping forward):
“I’m Sarit… and this is Eivar.
Though… you seem to already know him well.”
Sin (looking deeper into Eivar):
“No, but… I think it’s time I did.”
Do you want me to continue with the next chapter too?
