Episode 2 – Marked Where No Light Reaches

.
.
The glyph burned all night.

Not like fire. Fire you could scream at. Fire you could drown.
This was deeper. Hungrier. A second heartbeat behind my spine—slow, pulsing, aware. Every time I tried to sleep, it throbbed. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his.

Kaelith.

God of hollow stars, my former master. My not-quite-lover. My not-quite captor.
No chains, no locks—only whispered names, silk ropes, power wrapped in pleasure.
And now, a mark that wouldn't stop calling him.

I had fled him.
But the mark hadn’t.

I curled against a cold stone wall beneath the twisted roots of an uprooted tree, my stolen cloak wrapped around my bruised knees. The dagger—blackened with dried blood—lay beside me. My body stung, from cuts, exhaustion, and something worse.

A tremble I couldn’t blame on the cold.

His presence was still there. Just beyond reach. Like breath on glass.
Not in the flesh. But in the marrow.

Some nights, back at the temple, I used to cry into Kaelith’s chest.
He would whisper, “You’re more than you believe.”
And I would believe it. Because he said it.

Now, I was more. But not in the way I wanted.

I stood just before dawn—though here, dawn meant only the palest thinning of night.

I needed water. Food. Something living that didn’t talk in runes.
I needed distance from that stardust specter. From that name.

Eva Nyx. The girl who ran.

The girl who Kaelith lets run.

The figure’s voice echoed in my skull still. "You haven’t found the collar yet."

I stumbled through twisted trees until I found a glade filled with pale mushrooms and a pool of water that shimmered with stars. Not reflections—stars. Actual constellations, flickering beneath the surface.

Velkharra’s wildlands. Magic still bled here. Time still twisted.
And the stars? They watched.

I dropped to my knees, cupped the water, and drank.

It tasted of secrets.

Of wine, of salt, of things I remembered from the temple—
from nights when Kaelith touched me and I felt the cosmos in my mouth.

I screamed and threw the water away, coughing.

Then I saw the reflection.

My back. Bare. My robe had fallen open. And there it was.

The glyph.

Not just burned into my flesh. Not just glowing.
But moving.

It pulsed in a slow spiral, reshaping, shifting, growing tendrils down my spine.
Writing new verses.

I reached back, fingers shaking, and touched it.
Pain lanced through my body like a spike of ice and ecstasy. I gasped.

Images bloomed in my skull.

Kaelith’s mouth on my thigh.
A temple of mirrors, walls bleeding.
My own hands, painted in black ink, drawing runes on a man’s chest as he screamed in pleasure.
A girl’s voice whispering: “You’re not running, Eva. You’re ascending.”

The pain ebbed.

I collapsed beside the water, chest heaving, eyes wide, throat raw from silent moaning.

The glyph had just… fed me something.

Not knowledge.

A memory I hadn’t lived.

“You touched it,” said a voice behind me. Female. Cold. Familiar.

I turned.

There she stood.

Silne.

Alive.
Beautiful.
And holding a dagger stained with something that shimmered like gold.

"Your glyph is evolving," she said.

No hello. No softness. Just that smile—half bite, half secret.

"You’re supposed to be dead," I said, still on the ground.

"You're supposed to be obedient," she replied.
"Yet here we are."

She circled the pool, boots silent. She didn’t look tired. She didn’t look changed.
She looked like the Silne I had last kissed at the temple baths, three years ago.
The Silne who had taught me how to make a Noctarch scream.

She crouched beside me, blade between two fingers, and ran it along the water’s surface.

The stars rippled.

"Kaelith is bleeding," she said softly.

I blinked.

"What?"

"He’s unraveling. Slowly. Because of you. Because you left."

I swallowed. The glyph pulsed again.

"And he doesn’t want me back?"

Silne smiled wider. Her teeth were sharp now.

"He wants to consume you. But not in the way you think."

She stood, offered me her hand.

"Come with me. Before the next mark grows."

I didn’t move.

"You didn’t ask what it is," I said.

"What?"

"The collar. You said I hadn’t found it yet."

Silne leaned close, her lips brushing my ear.

"You found it the moment you said his name and came."

I slapped her.

Hard. She barely blinked.

Then she whispered, "You’ll slap me again when you realize I’m right."

She left me there, with the glyph still humming and my mouth still open.

I stared at the water.
At my reflection.
At the stars rippling beneath it.

And then I saw his face.

Kaelith.
Eyes closed. Breathing slow.
Like he was dreaming me.

And I realized—

The glyph wasn’t just a mark.
It was a window.

And I had just looked through it.

“They say the stars don’t speak anymore.
But I hear them.
And they want me to bleed.”

In Velkharra, the night never ends.
Desire is currency.
And the immortal Noctarchs rule by seduction, shadow, and sin.

Eva Nyx was a temple courtesan—trained to worship, to serve, to surrender.
But when she escaped the Hollow Star’s grasp, she didn’t just run...
She awoke something.

Now the stars whisper her name.
And what they want… is far from holy.
