Failsafe: Doomsday Protocol

Failsafe: Doomsday Protocol

Jun 25, 2025

Several hours later after that brutal battle between the brothers—and with the Anomaly  on the loose—the fate of the monsters hung in limbo. Alphys and her team—considering 5 members—scrambled to salvage what’s left to protect the Tree of Time; however, it has already caused casualties, making it even harder for the Scientists to work on.

Currently the area that was once surrounding the Tree of Time— which is Dr. Papyrus’ main laboratory— is now reduced to pieces. Due to the Tree’s disastrous power it emits, its area has been almost wiped out due to it continuously consuming the space around it. Matter twists itself, pulled into the temporal void like it was being erased from existence.

“Dr. Alphys—“ a scientist called out, voice tight with panic ”we can’t do anything more about the Tree for a while… not right now.”

Alphys clenched her jaw, “I know… but— but we can’t just stay idle…” her pupils narrowed from the scene, anxiously trying to at least cover it temporarily before it consumes them— no… before it consumes their whole universe, “We have to try something—anything! If we don’t… it won’t just stop at this lab…” she gazes at the scientists, and returns her gaze back at the Tree “It’ll take all of our Universe with it…”

“Dr. Alphys! Please!”

The same distressed Scientist approaches her, holding her shoulders, red hair scientist, with round glasses, still messed up due to the continuous stress the current situation is already giving them. “We have to get back, this place is not safe for all of us…”

Alphys hesitated. The sound of the Tree’s pull— a low, droning hum—was louder now. She stared at it for a long moment.

“Just… give me a minute,” she said quietly, backing away to a safe distance. “Let me think.” And so, for now, Alphys stood with her team, watching the Tree devour what’s left of the whole laboratory as they try to find an answer in the face of impossible ruin.

With nothing left to think about, she had an idea— rather an impossible idea. The idea is too dangerous to be even considered yet Alphys didn’t hesitate. She swallowed and only thought of what could save their Universe right this instant.

“Guys!” she looked at everyone facing away from the tree “I may have an idea-” she paused, biting her lip. She knows a lot of them are opposed to this idea, however she swallowed that pride in this moment “We may need a certain Scientist’s help.”

“Which Scientist is this, Dr. Alphys?”

Alphys took a breath. “Dr. Gaster.”

Silence fell like a hammer. A wave of disbelief swept  through the team—gasps, mutters, narrowed eyes. Some looked horrified. Others, furious. The air grew tense. No one spoke for quite a while.

“Impossible! Dr. Gaster has been gone for quite so long already!” A Scientist denies and doubts the critical thinking of Alphys in this situation “You are truly out of your mind!”

“If you don’t want to take this into account then—be here in my place!” she snapped. She didn’t mean to hurt another Scientist’s feelings, it was rather the tension and anxious feeling that is building up inside her. She covered her mouth and brought her composure back “I’m sorry.”

“Get yourself together!” Another one of the Scientists snapped too, smacked the living shit out of the disrespecting Scientist for doubting Alphys.

He stepped back, held his cheeks that were just smacked, fists clenching “W-what was that for?!”

“Calm down now, everyone…” Alphys went to mediate them “This isn’t going to work… we don’t have to fight…” she mutters “We have much more important matters to be worried about, and every idea—whether it may be dumb or impossible—is considered as an option despite having low chances of having a Success…” she stops and breathes for a moment, she then gets her composure back “...so please… help our Universe—rather, the Tree of Time that is suffering right now…”

Despite the scientists doubting the choice, desperation hits them that they lack the power and ability as well to keep the Tree from consuming the space.

“Fine!” One of the scientists said “...but if this didn’t go as we planned— your status as the Royal Scientist and our purpose… will be stripped off of us in an instant.”

Alphys gulps, but this is no time for hesitation. “I know… I’ll handle all the burden.” she walked close to that same scientist and held his shoulder “rest assured… you will attain your role as the Scientists not serving me, but maybe under Dr. Papyrus instead.”

“Reassuring…” the scientist gulps, as if knowing that their duties will be suspended anyway with what they are planning, “but I can’t guarantee that we’ll keep this anyway—”

In a second, a scientist breaks their bond-talk “Can we guys save this for later…” she makes a quick signal with her face behind them towards the tree “...we have bigger problems to suppress right now”

Alphys, embarrassed, quickly returned her composure back to a more professional scientist than a friend who gives comforting words, “alright.” she clenches her fists “This may sound crazy, but we will activate an emergency failsafe for the meanwhile— Dr. Vehra, please assist Dr. Geul in that section to activate the key.”

“Roger that.” and the two of the scientists made haste and opened the first part of the button that will activate the emergency failsafe.

“Dr. Uly and Dr. Hiro, please gather towards the opposite side and activate it at the same time as the others.” The two then ran towards the opposite side of the laboratory, went up a floor inside a room that was still unaffected by the tree’s ominous devouring.

“Let’s proceed at the front, and activate this…” they walked closely in the center having a hard time walking towards it as they were getting dragged by the strong pull the tree emits. “Let’s hope it still works…”

And as a last resort, on Dr. Alphys’ count—in hopes that this will still eventually work—considering the whole lab is half wrecked already… They made the move. “Everyone, are you ready?”

Everyone responded “Yes!” with their palms about to press the huge red button.

A scientist shouted a joke, just to break the serious tension “Remind me to switch Jobs after this!” The male scientist, muscular physique.

“Don’t worry, we’ll definitely refer you to resign later!”

“So Cruel!!”

“Alright, on a count of three…” Alphys opens the sealed button “two…” she raises her hands dramatically, almost as if the scenario slows down. “one—go!” and as Alphys sent the signal, she pressed the button. The other teams received this and pushed the button at the same time. Eyes closed. Sweating faces. While their hands are still pushing the button— they suddenly feel that the devouring aura has halted.

The scientists first pulled away and a few seconds later, they cheered. But one remains a vigilante—Alphys. “Everyone! It’s too early to celebrate…” She opens her eyes, and as soon as she takes her hands off of the button in front of her, a huge hologram appears. It looks like a countdown. What could it be for? What are they counting down?

A question rises from the scientist who’s watching her from behind all this time “What is the purpose of this Hologram, Dr. Alphys?” Alphys takes a deep breath and fixes her composure, as well as dusting off dust from her lab coat and faces her pupil.

“A Failsafe Doomsday.” as ominous as how she said it in a low voice, the remaining scientists focused their attention on Dr. Alphys as they walked close towards them in the middle of the room.

“A ‘Failsafe Doomsday’?” The same scientist asks, tilting her head a bit.

“We have prepared this—long before I even get appointed as the new Royal Scientist for the Underground…” she clenches her fist and takes a look at it “...we’ll save the story for later everyone.”

“It wasn’t really something special to hide…” Alphys starts a flashback returning to the point when she discovers a defensive strategy plan that was created by none other than Dr. Gaster himself. The document as it reads creates an Emergency Failsafe Doomsday Countdown whenever the dome that protects the Tree of Time gets shattered by some unknown force. However as the document states, it is nowhere near possible for the dome to get shattered easily, so it leaves Alphys wondering how it was broken in the first place. Who broke it? And what events led to the destruction of the dome? What is the ulterior motive? Is there even one to begin with?

The document as it continues, as the emergency failsafe activates, a doomsday hologram countdown will start. Every member of the Royal Scientists is now in distress to know that they will only have 7 Days before the failsafe breaks because as the document states—it is impossible to contain or even suppress the power the Tree holds—so they devised a plan to counter.

However, they really don’t have much of an option to counter it, not even the mere modern magic of this era of monsters will be able to withstand it—let alone the monsters of Dr. Gaster’s era—but as she read it deeper, one vital piece of information struck her. “In case the Failsafe Emergency happens to emerge—which we hope does not come—please contact Dr. Gaster right away” and the document there finishes without any more other options to reconsider.

“What does it mean to contact Dr. Gaster?” She flips through the document back and forth seemingly hopelessly to find even an ounce of a clue of ‘why’, “Where will we even get a hold of Dr. Gaster now that he’s gone…” she takes a deep breath and places the document back at her desk.

Returning back to the present… They all still gathered at the front of the Tree that is currently frozen. “Dr. Alphys…” Dr. Vehra, a female scientist, possibly in her mid 20s, with red hair “What do we do now…?”

“Certainly you aren't actually considering—” Dr. Uly, a male scientist, possibly in his mid 30s, has black hair.

“You’re right.” Alphys stops him “I am considering the possibility of having Dr. Gaster involved in this.”

“You must be Crazy! To think about that!”

“Dr. Gaster hasn't been around for so many centuries…” Dr. Vehra continues to say “Where could we possibly find him in this vast world— no… vast multiverse?!”

Alphys looks at Dr. Vehra with determination in her eyes “You’re right. All of you are right.” she then looks down at the floor closing her eyes and in a few seconds, she takes a deep breath and faces them back again “...it may seem impossible, but… I think I have a way.”

“Are you sure of the possibility?”

“Yes Dr. Vehra.” She fixes her eye glass back to its position “Even if the chances are as low as 16%, a chance is still a chance isn’t it?”

The team agrees, they have believed it ever since they started serving under Alphys. They believed that even if there’s only a 0.0001~% chance, there’s still a possibility that it can break through its limit plus their gained knowledge far exceeds that of Dr. Gaster’s time. Yet, a question arises, why is it that the Failsafe Doomsday was the only one that could work despite it being made in an older era?

They’ve worked hard enough, every scientist of this nation to know that even using Modern Magic or Knowledge, nothing could surpass the intelligence Dr. Gaster once had. And Alphys has a huge respect for the contributions he had made during his time, however she feels a bit uneasy despite Alphys’ serving time having only been a half a century, she still haven’t made any breakthrough like Gasters’ and only have been useful in medicines and maintaining their universe’s already made technology… Despite that, she still swore to be of use in any way—may it be physical or mental or intellectual—to their King.

“I have to head back to the main Laboratory for now…” Alphys said, while walking past the 5 scientists “Gather a few more of the scientists to keep working on how we can counter when the failsafe breaks”

“Are we sure that it will work, Dr. Alphys?”

“I’m afraid that if we can’t do anything, we’ll have to evacuate everyone to the surface.”

“—far worse than that, we’ll have to evacuate outside this planet.”

The scientists had few discussions, Dr. Vehra started it, followed by Dr. Geul and Dr. Hiro—a Male Scientist, in his mid 20s as well—you may start to think why he took the path of being a Scientist by his physical appearance, very fit and jock, where he qualifies as one of the Royal Guards, however he chose to bare more knowledge with science.  He knows that Undyne and her subordinates are more than capable already to handle their duties, let alone have another burden to be trained.

“But that’s utterly impossible…” Dr. Uly muttered—a male scientist in his 40s—the oldest out of the group, however despite their appearances they appear to be much older than that. Some of the scientists have even reached the previous royal scientist—that is dr. gaster—in his glory days namely Dr. Uly.

“What does it mean?” Dr. Vehra asks

“Dr. Gaster has nowhere reached that possibility in his prime.” A few of them gasp at this information, “We could only break free beyond the surface, and not more than that.”

“You do know with the help of Dr. Alphys we’re able to hide our very existence from other Multiverses.”

“Other ‘us’ right?” Dr. Geul touches the tip of his chin as he tilts his head, doubting the possibility even if they have proper proof already that another ‘them’ exists, “I still hardly believe it…”

“Have some sense of direction, Dr. Geul—” Dr. Vehra said, staring at Dr. Guel with a hint of wanting to take him down. “Can’t you see that the Tree of Time is already enough proof that other us exist? And the fact that the Anomaly came from another Reality is a solid proof of it.”

“But what if we’re mistaken?”

Dr. Vehra’s fists clenched and walked closely towards Dr. Geul, almost as if she’s about to hit her but as soon as her hands nearly reach his cheeks Dr. Alphys quickly interrupted, “That’s enough.” She stops in time, but the way her hands stop sends a ripple in the air that blows Dr. Geul’s hair away. “We’ve already have enough problems in our hands, lets not tore what our relationship has left”

Dr. Alphys, standing by the Laboratory’s Entrance gazes at the Tree of Time before even exiting. She stopped midway their conversation earlier to listen as she normally doesn’t hear them talk a lot whenever she’s around—even if she joins them during lunch breaks—that’s why she took the opportunity to listen in to them. She felt that it was the right thing to eavesdrop at them.

Dr. Vehra quickly notices that one of them is rather being silent, she gazed in different directions and locked eyes with the scientist just watching behind all of them “Dr. Knane? Are you alright?” she rather feels her acting odd.
