The assailant awakens before Debra. He usually did. He wasn’t sure if this would change since they were out in the desert, but he sees it will not. He is awake for about 45 minutes before Debra wakes up. He knows the situation is serious. But he never wanted to wake her. So he lets her continue her slumber. She awakens to him packing everything up. She feels bad as she wanted to at least do this for him. “All you’ve done is make sure me and others are okay,” she points out. He has nothing to say. “What do you ever do for yourself anymore?” He is still silent. She is genuinely curious. Though she doesn’t push the question onto him further. After everything is packed they continue moving. The walking process is silent for about 30 minutes. “The Huntsman are going to be after us relentlessly, even if it’s just a few they send. “We need to find a lowly populated place to stay until we can find a new permanent place.” She nods. They have been more understanding of each other. Back at The Huntsman, Dean is awaiting an update. He realizes at this moment that he doesn’t want the assailant nor Debra killed. He sits there thinking about different paths. He reminisces about the life that came before this dystopia. He imagines what life could have been. What life could have been is the kind of life he was in. The hired man begins tracking the assailant and Debra. He doesn’t like noise disturbances. The first thing he does is turn off the radio that was appointed to him. He breaks it to assure he isn’t tracked. He considers his hunts a sport. And he doesn’t want his sport interrupted. The assailant and Debra keep moving. They don’t plan to stop until they find a place to safely stop. They receive a blessing sooner than they expected. In the distance, near the horizon, they see a village. They are cheerful. But the assailant also knows he must prepare for the worst. They approach the village. The hired man is not far behind, as he can see them getting close to the village. He smiles. “The hunt has officially begun,” he tells himself. He begins to approach the village as well.
The assailant lives a life stained by violence, working as a hired killer for a shadowy organization known as The Huntsman. His only solace is Debra, his wife, with whom he shares a quiet but strained existence, the ghost of their lost daughter a constant presence. When a chance encounter with a young girl triggers a buried conscience, he breaks his oath and becomes the hunted. Forced to flee, they seek refuge in a seemingly peaceful village, only to find that the long reach of The Huntsman extends even to this remote haven. A relentless and brutal tracker is on their trail, turning their desperate flight into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
