Dean continues to think and reminisce alone in his office. He finally feels what he should have felt long ago. Regret. Regret for the things he had done. Regret for the people he had left behind. Regret for his loss of humanity as the years went on. He makes a decision. It is a quick one, but he thinks it is necessary. Back in the desert, the assailant and Debra enter the village. They are, luckily, unrecognized by the people there. The assailant is silent, and he whispers to Debra for her to be as well. She looks over to him and can tell he is thinking about something. She was usually able to. She doesn’t question it for now. They push through the crowd to get a better sight of the whole village. They are surrounded by merchants and pawners trying to sell them anything they can. They cover their faces as a gust of wind blows sand in their direction and almost into their eyes. The assailant sees a country looking woman with a baby near them. She almost enters her house but the assailant stops her to ask where they are. When the lady turns around she is scared for a moment. She then looks over to Debra and calms herself. “You guys should come inside before you’re noticed,” she says to them. With some hesitation, they both accept. They enter the house and Debra quickly goes to speak with the woman. She asks her where they are. “North Hoon,” she answers quickly. “How did you recognize us so quickly?” The woman is surprised they don’t know. “The Huntsman announced a warning about him. When I saw you with him I knew there was more to the story than him being a cold-hearted criminal.” They nod. “What are y'all names?” They respond with the honest answer to the question. The woman introduces herself as Pearl, and points to the baby playfully before introducing her as Crystal. “You 2 can stay here as long as you need,” she offers them. “Thank you. And we will make sure to pull our weight to pay you back for it,” the assailant responds. “So he CAN speak,” Pearl jokingly comments on his silence. He cracks a smile. This was their safe place. They had found it. At a merchant, the hired man is intrigued by some gold bullets offered to him. “These things can go right through any animal,” the merchant tells him. The hired man cracks a smile and winks. “I’m counting on it.”
The assailant lives a life stained by violence, working as a hired killer for a shadowy organization known as The Huntsman. His only solace is Debra, his wife, with whom he shares a quiet but strained existence, the ghost of their lost daughter a constant presence. When a chance encounter with a young girl triggers a buried conscience, he breaks his oath and becomes the hunted. Forced to flee, they seek refuge in a seemingly peaceful village, only to find that the long reach of The Huntsman extends even to this remote haven. A relentless and brutal tracker is on their trail, turning their desperate flight into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
