1 month earlier. A Huntsman assistant walks into Dean’s office to bring him the next day’s targets. He is surprised when he enters an empty office. He quickly informs the other Huntsman of his disappearance. Outside, Dean is running as far away from The Huntsman as fast as he can. He is terrified thinking about what the outcome might be if he is caught. So he just keeps running. He realizes this is the fear most targets probably felt in their final moments of life. He regrets everything. Every last decision he had made in the last decade. He could never go back to The Huntsman after knowing this feeling and having this knowledge. He stops moving for the day when the sun has fully set. Throughout the night, he is thinking about what he should do. What could he do? He is unable to start a fire. He has no blanket or cover with him. He had never been at a point where he had to learn how to before. Though the temperature was far from negative, it was still a cold night. He woke and sat still for a moment. After he stood up and just kept moving. After 45 minutes of endless walking had passed, he made a realization. He had nothing he needed to survive. He wasn’t just missing things to keep him warm or cool. He had no food or water. He needed to get to the assailant. If he is still alive, then he needs to be warned about the hired man. He thought more about the likely direction the 2 had gone in. He decides that since the best thing to do would be crossing the border, he heads North. Along the way, he ran into many merchants and pawners. One thing he always kept on him was money. Across 3 weeks, that is how he got food, water, and proper travel attire. After 2 more weeks, he had become a different man. He hadn’t just been traveling North. He scattered along on his path in that direction in hopes that he would find them at a point that was before the border. His hope was not a reality. After much traveling, he had come across a village. He recognized it. North Hoon. This would be the last possible place they could stop at before they reached the border. As he enters the town, he enters the town and hears gunshots. Coming at him. They came from the gun of the hired man. He appears as if he had lost some of his sanity. His beard has been uncut and the outer parts of his eyes are a noticeable red. “I couldn’t find him. You gave me a target to hunt that couldn’t be hunted,” he yells to Dean. Dean moves through an alley to avoid the hired man. As he does, he sees a man come out of the back door of a house. It is a man he recognizes. The assailant.
The assailant lives a life stained by violence, working as a hired killer for a shadowy organization known as The Huntsman. His only solace is Debra, his wife, with whom he shares a quiet but strained existence, the ghost of their lost daughter a constant presence. When a chance encounter with a young girl triggers a buried conscience, he breaks his oath and becomes the hunted. Forced to flee, they seek refuge in a seemingly peaceful village, only to find that the long reach of The Huntsman extends even to this remote haven. A relentless and brutal tracker is on their trail, turning their desperate flight into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
